Portland, Oregon, is a distinctly off-beat, vibrant, and eccentric city that has been affectionately labeled as 'weird' for years. Portland is one of the most unique metropolitan epicenters in the country.

'The City Of Roses' is well-known to be a haven of progressive liberal ideals, food trucks, and artsy, creative types. It has a world-class food scene and some picture-perfect scenery. And if you're a beer lover, you'll find some of the best microbreweries in the US on this side of the continental divide.

Despite what you might have heard, Portland is far from a dangerous city, and no, rioters haven't successfully burnt it to the ground.

In fact, Portland is a city with rich and colorful culture. Portlanders certainly know how to have a good time – and as you'll learn by watching this video, they make a pretty phenomenal doughnut as well. And regardless of your age, interests, and political affiliations, there is something for just about everyone in this eclectic Pacific Northwestern city.

Portland, Oregon MUST SEE and DO with Kids!

#portlandoregon #portlandwithkids #mustdoportland #mustseeproperty
We are in Portland, Oregon with kids doing all the Must See and Must do's in Portland. We had such a great time in Portland, we put together a top 7 list of things to do in Portland with kids.

#7 The Wishing Tree. The wishing tree is great for kids and is a must see. It is a tree located on private property in Portland, Oregon where people write their hopes and wishes. The tree is funny, inspiring and at time heart breaking. My kids loved tieing their wish to the tree and sending them up to the universe.

#6 We are a family that loves a good zoo and Porland has a great one...The Oregon Zoo. The Oregon Zoo is the oldest zoo west of the Mississippi. It's the perfect place for kids to run around and learn about animals, science and conservation.

#5 Shopping! Shopping in Portland Oregon is incredible. They have so many unique shops and whmsical stores. We went to Paxton Gate an ethically sourced taxidermy shop that sells treasures from the natural world. We also went to Hippo Hardware a 4 floor shop that specializes in antique lighting and hardware. Oh and my kids favorite, Portland is really into Lego's! Portland has a traditional Lego store but it was the resale shops that we found to be the most fun, like Bricks and Mini Figs.

#4 Portland International Test Garden - The rose garden is located in Washington Park and its a great place for kids to run around. The park has over 10,000 rose bushes and over 650 type of roses. The rose garden also has a playground for kids. The garden also host events almost every weekend in good weather. We are at the Portland International Test Garden during Dance Church.

#3 Underground Donut Tour is Highly recomended. Underground Donut tour is Portlands only City Donut Tour. We walked to different mom and pop donut shops while sampling unique flavors and learning about the city. Portland loves donuts, but what you will not find here is a Dunkin Donuts. We finished our tour at the Donut shop that started it all Voodoo Donuts the original. They put freaky unique flavors on the map. Theirs special pink boxes are a nod to Voodoo's Pepto Bismal donut. It was a donut dipped in the pink chalky stuff and sprinkled with tumbs. This donut didn't last long but it did get national attention

#2 The Freakybuttrue Peculiarium and Museum Famed and yet uknown Portland adventurer Conrad Talmadge Elwood had a dream, but forgot it when he woke up. Still he spent a life time traveling the globe in search of the inexplicable and the freaky. Established in 1967, The Freakybuttrue Peculiarium is a one-of-a-kind Art gallery begrudgingly devoted to Elwood's blurry vision.
Visitors can discover interactive art and installations for all six senses, including novelties, gags, books, original artwork, shirts, stickers, one-of-a-kind oddities, and more, complete with edible insects and the likes. In Conrad Elwood's words, the Peculiarium is an art gallery dedicated to learning and terror.

Honorable mention is a restaurant, Portland is a community of hipsters and that makes it a great place for foodies, but not so much picky 7 year olds. The restaurant that the entire family loved was Mothers Bistro. Mothers takes homemade favorites and refinds them, so they are better than what mom use to make. Mother's Bistro also recognizes a Portland Mother and makes her mother of the month. In the menu they tell her story and feauter one of her recipes.

#1 Our top spot had to go to The Columbia River Gorge. The Columbia River Gorge is just a 15 minute drive outside the city. A great place to sart is Multnomah Falls. This is the most visited natural place in the Pacific Northwest. The waterfall is so tall and incredible. Its a great place to take in beuty, but then it you must venture out to one of their many kid friendly trails. We hiked Wahclella Falls. Wahclella is a 2.4 mile round trail with a beautiful waterfall. The water at the end is freezing and water shoes are recomended but it is an adventure with kids that should not be missed.

Family Travel in Oregon: North Clackamas Park

On our first day in Oregon we found this fantastic family-friendly park just south of Portland. This is a great way to burn off some energy after a long day of flying and to get acclimated with the environment.

Sarah gives her stamp of approval for North Clackamas Park!

It has been suggested that the city is home to over 500 food trucks, offering a diverse array of options for you to choose from; from Greek to hot dogs, pizza to Polish and everything in-between. You can even find desert food trucks, selling gourmet crepes and donuts.
2. Pods - This leads on to our next reason to visit, the pods. There are whole corners of blocks in Portland, dedicated to food trucks. These are known as pods in the city and make eating out with fussy eaters much much easier. Plus, this offers a relaxed, chilled out evening for those not looking to head to one of the many nightclubs in downtown Portland.
3. Small town feel - One reason to visit Portland is for that small town feel. The city is laid back and full of charming neighbourhoods to explore. This gives the city a homely, small town feel that you see in those hallmark movies.
4. The Downtown area - Once you have finished exploring the different neighbourhoods, make sure you explore downtown Portland too. It is full of historic landmarks, is incredibly walkable and has a beautiful waterfront location beside the Willamette River. Plus, not only can you walk around the downtown area easily but there is a great public transport system of cheap and reliable buses and trams.
