This Plaza in Mexico City is Dedicated to Mariachi! (Plaza Garibaldi, CDMX Vlog)
Mexico City blew our expectations out of the water! It's a city that we've wanted to visit for YEARS and to be honest we didn't know exactly what to expect. It's an incredible and beautiful city and would take years to truly explore the whole place. The truth is, it's enormous. Every neighborhood is so different and unique from one to the next and there's so much to breakdown in CDMX. We've decided to split our videos from there into different chapters or 'stories', in our series: Mexico City Stories.
Since this is the first one, we included our very first impressions of Mexico City in the video. It's now one of our favorite cities in the world. It reminded us a bit of Madrid, New York City, even a bit of Paris, but it's all Mexico and that full package is what really makes it so unique.
In this story, these clueless gringos learn about a huge part of Mexico's iconic culture...MARIACHI! There's no better place to experience mariachi in CDMX than Plaza Garibaldi...which is literally an entire plaza or city square dedicated to mariachi music. As soon as we found out about it, we had to book a hotel directly in the plaza's only hotel. We kept extending our stay because we were so impressed. We seriously loved the hotel and plaza so much that I think it's where we'll stay every time we visit the city, at least for short visits.
It doesn't hurt anything that the plaza has a very affordable late-night museum that gives you the full history of mezcal and tequila, along with shots of all the best MEXICAN MADE alcoholic beverages...how cool is that??
Full disclosure: we really didn't know much at all about mariachi before staying on Plaza Garibaldi...only that we loved the sound of it and it is inherently Mexican, that's it. I think most of us gringos in the US are well aware of Mariachi but many of us really are clueless about what it really is and the background of it. We certainly didn't. We got an education on the history and styles of mariachi and wanted to share a bit of our experience with you guys. Staying on the plaza was an amazing and eye-opening cultural experience for us and we had the time of our lives. We can't recommend this place enough.
Hope you enjoy the video! For all of you who have been traveling with us for awhile now, thank you so much for your support! If you're new here, consider subscribing. It's free and easy and keeps us going. We have a lot more stories to tell. :)
Also, we love to see your comments! Truth is, we learn a lot from everyone's comments and actually use that to help us explore more unique places, learn more about where we visit, and then add that in to the videos for everyone else to learn as well. Plus, it's just enjoyable to read what everyone has to say. Hope everyone's 2022 is going great so far.

10 Reasons You Should Move to THIS Magical Town in Mexico // Con Subtítulos
Today we are going to give you 10 Reasons why you should move to Cholula, Puebla instead of some of the other more popular retirement destinations in Mexico.

#3 It's not as crowded/popular as other popular places to retire in Mexico such as San Miguel de Allende, Puerto Vallarta, or Merida.

#4.5 It's very walkable. Compared to cities like Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende- Cholula is extremely walkable. The streets are flat, smooth, and there are ample sidewalks.
#5 It is close to Puebla, healthcare, and an international airport
#6 The moderate climate is amazing!
#7 The people of Cholula are extremely friendly
#8 The Great Pyramid of Cholula!

10 Hour Layover in Guadalajara
On our trip to Costa Rica, we had a 10 hour layover in Guadalajara. Flying from Ontario, California on Volaris Air, we got such a good deal it was too cheap to pass up. Usually a long layover is a bad thing, but I wanted to visit Guadalajara so this was a good excuse to get a quick overview of the city.
Jorge was our guide, provided by the Guadalajara Tourism Board.
He met us at the airport for our 7am arrival, took us on a driving tour around the city then to breakfast at Santo Coyote, a very nice restaurant. This place was huge and fancy, a huge buffet with more than you could ever want for breakfast. We had a couple plates of food and were stuffed for the rest of the day.
Jorge then took us around the city to see some of the historical sites and buildings, some very interesting places. He was full of information and told us the history of each building, some great stories, an amazing guide.
We were too full from breakfast to eat, so we saw as many sites as we could before heading back to the airport for our 5pm flight to San Jose, Costa Rica. Since there traffic is bad, we left downtown around 2:20pm and made it back in time to grab a quick bite at the airport while waiting for our flight.
Thanks again to everyone at the Guadalajara Tourism Office and Jorge for a great day, I will have to come back for much longer next time and really explore the city more in depth.
