10 Poorest Places in The UK
What are the poorest places in the UK? The last thing that’ll come to mind when the UK is mentioned is poverty. It’s not among the countries you’ll associate poverty with. This should be clearly noted as we begin. Yet, not every part of Great Britain has the affluence of London, Edinburgh, or Glasgow. Some places in the UK are poor. We’re here to show you the 10 poorest places in the UK.
These places are the same neighborhood with the biggest shortages of basic social infrastructure and facilities such as playgrounds, parks, pubs, shops, and sports centers. You’ll find some of them among the areas left behind in England, Wales, and Scotland. Authorities have to do something about these 10 poorest places in the UK.
10. Newport, Wales
We’re starting in Wales. One of the poorest places in the UK is a city and county borough in Gwent in Wales. We are referring to Newport which is situated on the River Usk close to the river’s confluence with the Severn Estuary. It is 19 kilometers northeast of Cardiff. Newport’s population of 145,700 at the 2011 census notwithstanding, all is not going on fine with the city. It can’t get past its nagging poverty.
Imagine this: of Newport’s 95 neighborhoods in Newport, 23 currently rank among the most deprived in Wales. Do the math, and you will find out that this is about 24 percent of the authority. That’s the biggest percentage of deprivation in the country.
9. Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland
Wales doesn’t have a monopoly on poor places. Scotland has, at least, one of the 10 poorest places in the UK. You’ll find the ninth on our list in Inverclyde. This is Greenock, a town and administrative center in the Inverclyde council area. The town with a population of 44,248 is located in the west-central Lowlands of Scotland.
As proof of how gripping the poverty state of this town is, its population reduced by almost 3,000 within 10 years. In a report that shows how poor some parts of the nations are, Greenock tops the list. In the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation for 2020, Greenock has the highest number of deprived areas in Scotland.
8. Halton, England
England too has some of the poorest places in the UK and the first of these on this list is the eighth poorest place in the UK, Halton. The district and unitary authority that registers its name on this list has a borough status in Cheshire.
When you consider its ranking as one of the worst areas in England and Wales by a global children's charity that also ranks Halton as one of the worst areas in England and Wales to be a girl, you will understand why Halton slipped into the rank of the 20 most deprived areas in England. Other indices like life expectancy, children poverty which is 25 percent, health inequality, and unemployment rates are not in a positive light for this district.
7. Merthyr Tydfil, Wales
We’re back in Wales to find Merthyr Tydfil, the main town in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, as the seventh of the 10 poorest places in the UK. The town administered by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is about 37 kilometers north of Cardiff. Often called Merthyr, the town believed to be named after Tydfil, daughter of King Brychan of Brycheiniog, has a population of 43,820.
This town seems to be hitting above its weight as the go-to place for those looking for gloomy job news. As of March 2018, the unemployment rate was 5.7 percent. Even though it's an iron producer, poor transportation service is the bane of this town that makes it so poor.
6. South Elmsall, England
South Elmsall is a small town and a civil parish lying to the east of Hemsworth with a population of 6,519. When it comes to safety, this town is among the most dangerous of small towns, villages, and cities in West Yorkshire. It’s faring badly in income deprivation, employment deprivation, education, skills and training deprivation, health deprivation, and disability. The 2021 overall crime rate in South Elmsall was 111 crimes per 1,000 people Living in this small town, you will be on a downward spiral of ill health and at the risk of premature death or the impairment of quality of life caused by poor physical or mental health.

10 Most Loved Towns in the UK
What are most loved towns in the United Kingdom? Determining how much each town in the UK is loved can be tough since there are over a thousand of towns in the country. However, due to popular demand and to satisfy the yearnings of our audience, we have undertaken the pain of researching. It is that research that produced this list of the 10 most loved towns in the UK.
The ranking is a product of what the majority of the people polled feel about their towns and other towns they know one thing or the other about. Yet, we are sure of one thing. You too would join those whose votes rank these towns as the most loved towns in the UK.
10. Dunkeld, Scotland
Let’s set the ball rolling with Dunkeld a town in Perth and Kinross. Yes, we begin in Scotland. The town is located on the north bank of the River Tay and opposite Birnam. Dunkeld is frequently referred to as the Gateway to the Highlands because of its proximity to the geological Highland Boundary Fault.
This is one of the most loved towns in the UK because it’s a popular holiday area in Scotland. It’s also well connected by road and rail to all the major centers in Scotland and the other parts of the UK. Though the town with an estimated population of 1,330 may be relatively small, it’s also much loved.
9. Selby, England
From there to the English town of Selby. This town is in the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire. Selby is a market town and civil parish. With its status as a town council, it is 14 miles south of York on the River Ouse. The town with a population of 14,731 is one of the most loved towns in England.
The former town of a large shipbuilding industry was also an important port on the Selby Canal. Apart from its being a market town, it’s also loved for its picturesque villages and affordable much lower house prices.
8. Usk, Wales
Next, we go to Wales to find the town of Usk in Monmouthshire. This town and community is 10 miles northeast of Newport and located on the River Usk. The town with a population of 2,834 has been listed among the best places to live in Wales, by the annual guide of the Best Places to Live in The Sunday Times.
One of the factors that brought Usk to the list and this one is the extraordinary community exhibited by the residents of the town. They have a lot of community groups such as Usk in Bloom. Usk is loved for its history of success in UK competitions. The independently-run museum and sports groups are also a reason to love this town.
7. Frome, England
Let us briefly touch down in England to consider Frome, the seventh on our list. The moment it was listed among one of the “Best Places to Live in Britain,” we knew the town would be one of the 10 most loved towns in the UK. Now, our research has proved true. This town and civil parish in eastern Somerset is about 13 miles south of Bath.
The largest town in the Mendip District of Somerset is loved for being welcoming, charming, and vibrant. As a part of the parliamentary constituency of Somerton and Frome, it has a wealth of history, culture, and natural beauty. People from outside the town love it for its tranquility and antiquity.

The Top Ten Most Beautiful Villages In The Cotswolds
The Top Ten Most Beautiful Villages In The Cotswolds
The Cotswolds is an area in south-central, West Midlands and South West England encompassing the Cotswold Hills, a range of rolling hills that rise from the meadows of the upper Thames to the Cotswold Edge, above the Severn Valley and Evesham Vale.
The area is defined by the bedrock of Jurassic limestone that creates a type of grassland habitat rare in the UK and that is quarried for the golden-coloured Cotswold stone.
With quintessentially English villages, lively market towns, some of the country’s greatest palaces, castles and country houses and breath-taking landscapes, the Cotswolds is enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

NINE MANCHESTER MYSTERIES | Unexplained Manchester & Cheshire Faces & Places
#ManchesterMysteries #CheshireMysteries #ManchesterHistory
In this video I present a quirky and sometimes intriguing selection of mysteries - actually some of them are not really mysteries at all, for instance, the origin of local place names, that should not have been forgotten. Since I was a child I've been curious about who Princess Road was named after, but only recently found out.
We visit Boggart Hole Clough, Werneth Low, Platt Fields Park and go down Mauldeth Road West to a dead end. We often use the term 'It's a complete mystery to me why the council.... and that's a question I ask in Northenden. Finally we go to Alderley Edge, a place shrouded in myth and mystery and come face to face with the wizard!

Cheshire To Lanesborough, Massachusetts, USA
Cheshire is a town in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, United States. It is part of the Pittsfield, Massachusetts Metropolitan Statistical Area. Cheshire was first settled in 1766 and officially incorporated in 1793. It is named after the county of Cheshire in England. Cheshire is located within the valley of the Hoosic River, and is the site of a dammed reservoir on the river. To the west, parts of Mount Greylock State Reservation take up sections of town, and includes a section of the auto road. To the southeast, North Mountain peaks just outside town limits before descending to the valley. The Appalachian Trail crosses through the center of town, heading from North Mountain to Mount Greylock. The southern foothills of the Hoosac Range make up much of the eastern side of town, and much of the land is dotted with sections of the Chalet and Stafford Hill Wildlife Management Areas. Several other brooks feed into the river along the way.
Lanesborough is a town in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, United States. It is situated in two valleys, with Town Brook running south through the central valley into Pontoosuc Lake, and the Cheshire Reservoir, the headwaters of the Hoosic River, running north through the town's smaller, eastern valley. To the north, the beginning of Mount Greylock is located in the town, with the auto road and visitors' center beginning there as well. Rockwell Road, which leads to the Visitors' Center, ascends from Lanesborough through Cheshire to the summit in Adams. Sperry Road, which branches off Rockwell, leads to a campground and picnic area. Pittsfield State Forest also has a large section within town, with Balance Rock being its main attraction. To the west, Jiminy Peak and Sheeps Heaven Mountain, the southern portion of Brodie Mountain, form much of the western border. While much of Jiminy Peak is located in the town of Hancock, recent aerial mapping determined that the summit is indeed in Lanesborough. Brodie Mountain Road, which passes between these two mountains, is one of the few roads which lead into neighboring Hancock from the east. Lanesborough hosts the southern access to the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail, a bike path converted from a railway path.
