Real de Catorce, San Luis Potosi: A Photo Documentary
Going to Real de Catorce in San Luis Potosi in Mexico is almost like visiting Fred & Wilma Flintstone in their town of Bedrock. It seems that this very old town is just made of rugged stone.
This video a photo documentary of one day of exploring this this old mining town.
You have to travel through a long one-way tunnel just to reach the town. The tunnel is sort of like a time-travel tunnel. When you reach the light at the end, get ready for a very interesting Mexico exploration experience.
Also in this video, you will learn the complete name of Real de Catorce. It's a long one!
Here is another video about a really cool jeep ride which starts in Real de Catorce. You travel down a rustic canyon road to the desert in the valley below.

It's time to RETURN to the epic San Luis Potosi for a NEW 3 part series! I was last in San Luis in February 2019 and visited Real de Catorce, La Huasteca, Xilitia and more as well as experiencing local dishes Enchiladas Potosinas and Huastecas and the famous Costanzo Chocolates!

In this vide we start by checking out the following -

The silver mine tunnel to Real de Catorce, Mexico | Everyday moments #10
This is the Ogarrio tunnel that was built to serve the silver mine of Real de Catorce at 2.700 metres. It is still the only way to go to the village but only for vehicles not higher than 2,80 m. So our Iveco couldn't make it and we had to take a local car to get in town.

REAL DE CATORCE, SAN LUIS POTOSI, MEXICO - Hola amigos! We have finally made it to the former silver mining town of Real de Catorce in the state of San Luis Potosi in Mexico! This is a feature length video detailing a location which gives you an authentic feel of the Mexican desert. If you'e planning a Mexico trip or Mexico vacation in 2019, San Luis Potosi and Real de Catorce have to be on your itinerary!
Real de Catorce is located approx 2700 metres above sea level north of Matehuala in San Luis Potosi state. It rose to prominence in the late 1700s when silver was discovered, which became the main industry in the area. Once the early 1900s came, the price of silver had plummeted, resulting in the town being largely abandoned.
You can visit Real de Catorce on a tour/bus from San Luis Potosi or Matehuala or do it yourself as I did (My Airbnb host in Cedral drove me). There is a bus back at 1540 and at other times throughout the day (you get a small bus through the Ogarrio tunnel then change to a Grupo Senda bus to Matehuala).
You can also visit the ghost town higher up by horse, or (As I did), walk! It takes about 1-1.5hrs depending on fitness.
WIND - Yes there is wind in the video (I was at 3000 metres), please put the subtitles on if you can't hear.
MUSIC -
Distant Echo - Jakob Ahlbom (Intro and Outro)
Breaking of Dawn 4 - Stefan Mothender (Exploring section)
I Promise You - Johannes Bornlof (Cemetary and Church scenes)
Cinematic Introductions 4 - Magnus Ringblom (Ghost Town Trek)
