Chiang Rai is the northernmost province in Thailand. Filled with lush hills, fine local food, an abundance of temples, and cultural sights, this is one of the country’s most fascinating regions. And although it’s located right next to the well-trodden Chiang Mai, this province doesn’t receive as many tourists. In fact, most people visit Chiang Rai as a day trip from Chiang Mai, but we recommend spending at least a few days here to fully soak in the unique culture. Chiang Rai City is the main hub to explore the hidden corners of the region from. But the city itself also has a wide variety of attractions. In this video, we highlight the best things to do inside the city of Chiang Rai as well as excursions to its surrounding area.

😴 Recommended stay - Homey Dormy Chiangrai (loved it - but better if you have a rental vehicle as it’s a bit outside the city center):
🚗 Get a rental car from Chiang Rai Airport:

12. Watch Sunset From Wat Phrathat Doi Khao Kwai

Wat Sanam Chai , Suphan buri , Thailand | 4K Walking tour and ambience nature sounds ASMR video

According to the records from the north, King Katae's brother, who also renovated Wat Pa Lelai, commissioned this 23-acre temple. Archeologists believe that the temple dates back to before 1203. The ruins of an octagonal pagoda have been found, surrounded by a wall with small pagodas at the four compass points. In 1961, the Fine Arts Department renovated the pagoda and found many relics and ashes inside. It is believed that the pagoda was first built during the Dvaravati U Thong period, and then rebuilt during the Ayutthaya period. Wat Sanam Chai is located at Mu 5, Tambon Sanam Chai on Highway 340, 2 kilometers from Amphoe Mueang on the eastern bank of the Tha Chin River. It is open daily from 6.00 am-5.00 pm.
