1️⃣ Pailón del Diablo/ Devil’s Cauldron
A 80 m waterfall, located in Baños de Agua Santa, is considered one of the largest waterfalls in Ecuador.
2️⃣ Cayambe Volcano
This is the 3rd highest volcano in Ecuador with a height of 5.790 masl.
3️⃣ Quilotoa Lagoon
Quilotoa is a water-filled crater lake, the 3 km (2 mi)-wide caldera was formed by the collapse of this dacite volcano following a catastrophic eruption about 800 years ago.
4️⃣ Mindo
Located in the province of Pichincha, about 80 km northwest of Quito. Mindo was recognized as “Bird Life” in America.
5️⃣ Galápagos Islands
Well, what can I say about this place?
Located at the confluence of three ocean currents, the Galápagos are a ‘melting pot’ of marine species.
It's just SPECTACULAR.

Ecuador is one of the most diverse countries in the world though it's comparably tiny. Beside the Galapagos Islands (which is the #1 tourist destination in Ecuador) the country has a lot more to offer, therefore I focussed on La Sierra in this video which is a paradise for landscape lovers and outdoor adventurers.
Another reason to visit the Andean region is that you have the chance to dive into the local culture and get a real feeling of Ecuador. The places to see in Ecuador I focussed on in this short video are the result of my own travels along the center from north to south and are easily doable in 2 weeks time.

The most important travel tip when visiting Ecuador
Ecuador is NOT the Galapagos Islands and Galapagos is not Ecuador.
The Galapagos Islands are PART OF Ecuador.
And while it’s an incredible place filled with natural beauty, adventure activities and heritage, there is so much more beyond its boundaries.
If you want to see amazing beaches visit Manta, San Lorenzo or Tonsupa!
If you want to see exotic animals, head over to the Amazon Rainforest.
If you want to see volcanoes then visit Cotopaxi (one of the highest active volcanoes in the world), Chimborazo (the closest point on Earth to the sun), and Cayambe (highest mountain in the Equator line).
If you want to see historical cities and churches visit Quito & Cuenca (both World Heritage Sites of UNESCO).
If you want to see breathtaking scenery take yourself to the Atillo lagoons & Cuicocha lake.
If you want to see the best sunsets, go to Mount Puñay, Cuyabeno, Yagüi Urco or Teleferiqo.
If you want to ride a cable car/ gondola lift visit Quito or Guayaquil.
Love birds? Well, Ecuador has more birds per square kilometer than anywhere else in the world, the best place is in Mindo.
Want to surf? No problem, hit the waves in Montañita.

Cayambe se encuentra a unos 20 km al este del pueblo del mismo nombre, con sus 5.790 metros, este volcán es la tercera cumbre más alta del Ecuador. El Cayambe forma parte de la cordillera Central del norte (también llamada Cordillera Real), que incluye otros importantes nevados, como el Cotopaxi.
La cordillera Central es uno de los cordones principales que rodea la hoya de Quito, la capital de Ecuador. A 4600m de altura se encuentra el refugio Ruales-Oleas-Berge, accesible en vehículo 4x4 por un camino que normalmente está en malas condiciones. El refugio fue lamado así tras la muerte por avalancha de tres andinistas (dos ecuatorianos y un francés), accidente que ha alimentado la fama de peligroso del Cayambe.
Sin embargo, pese a la gran cantidad de grietas que se pueden encontrar, el Cayambe no es más peligroso que otros volcanes cercanos, como el Cotopaxi o el Antisana. Desde el refugio se puede contemplar y acceder fácilmente al Glaciar Hermoso, lugar ideal para realizar prácticas de andinismo.

Cayambe Ecuador is in the heart of dairy country, driving through is the sweet smell of rose farms and lots of bizcocho signs.
If you stop in in Bizcochos San Pedro between 8-10am you can learn how to make bizcochos. However, we arrived at 3pm for almuerzo and ate some of the local Ecuadorian foods in the Imbabura Province.
