Castel San Pietro terme 🐢 Per cosa è famosa
Castel San Pietro Terme 😍

This channel is a fully independent source of information about World Heritage Sites and does not intend to make a profit.
The Cloisters of San Pietro are part of an important 16th century monastic complex, located in the historic center of Reggio Emilia. The former monastery belonged to Benedictine monks who officiated at the adjoining San Pietro church. The construction of the cloisters began in the early sixteenth century after the decision to transfer an earlier convent located outside the walls to within the city confines. The monastic complex, which included courtyards and vegetable gardens, was developed around two cloisters: a small one in a late fifteenth-century design and a larger one in Mannerist style.

Italy counts 55 UNESCO World Heritage Sites within its borders, the most of any country on the World Heritage List. The goal of the Convention is to identify, according to precise criteria, areas, zones and places containing unique characteristics, of particular importance in regards to culture, archaeology, environment or landscape.
Italy’s World Heritage Sites are well-known. The Dolomites; The City of Verona; Ferrara and the Po River Delta; the Historic Centers of San Gimignano, Florence and Rome; Hadrian's Villa and the Villa D’Este at Tivoli; the archaeological area of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Torre Annunziata; the Sassi (rupestrian architecture and churches) of Matera; the Amalfi Coast and the Aeolian Islands are just some among many others.
Land and Nature. The Sea. The Mountains. Lakes. Nature and Wildlife. Culture, Art and History. Art and History. Culture and Entertainment. Art Cities. UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Health and Activity. Sports and Wellness. Ways to Travel. Leonardo. Gastronomy. Religion and Spirituality.
Northwest Italy. Piedmont, Liguria, Lombardia and Valle d'Aosta. Home of the Italian Riviera, including Portofino, Sanremo, and of Cinque Terre. There are many historic cities in this part of Italy: Turin, the manufacturing capital of Italy, Milan, the business and fashion capital of the country and the important port of Genoa are the most popular tourist destinations of the area. Other cities like Aosta, Bergamo, Brescia and Como have a rich cultural heritage, which share the region's visitors with beautiful landscapes such as the lakes Garda, Como and Maggiore. There are also important ski resorts like Sestriere, Courmayeur, Breuil-Cervinia, Livigno and Bormio.
Northeast Italy: Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol and Veneto. This part of Italy also boasts several important tourist attractions, such as the canal-filled city of Venice, the cities of Verona, Vicenza, Padua, Trento, Bolzano, Cremona, Bologna, Ferrara, Mantua, Parma, Ravenna, Cesena, Rimini and Trieste. There are also several mountain ranges such as the Dolomites, the Carnic and Julian Alps and first-class ski resorts like Cortina d'Ampezzo and Madonna di Campiglio. These four regions offer much to see and do. The area has a unique cuisine, including wines and dishes such as Prosecco and Tiramisu in Veneto and Cotechino, Ragu and Parma ham in Emilia Romagna, San Daniele ham and D.O.C. wines in Valpolicella, Lake Garda, Valdobbiadene, Trentino and Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
Central Italy. Lazio, Marche, Tuscany and Umbria. This area is possibly the most visited in Italy and contains many popular attractions as well as sought-after landscapes. Rome boasts the remaining wonders of the Roman Empire and some of the world's best known landmarks such as the Colosseum. Florence, regarded as the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, is Tuscany's most visited city, whereas nearby cities like Siena, Pisa, Arezzo and Lucca also have rich cultural heritages. Umbria's population is small but it has many important cities such as Perugia and Assisi. For similar reasons, Lazio and Tuscany are some of Italy's most visited regions and the main targets for Ecotourism.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝘀
Its origins are very ancient: since the upper Paleolithic, a tribe of aborigines lived on this mountain; when the plain below was cleared, they went down and founded another village which later became the city of Praeneste (modern Palestrina).
Pre-roman Cyclopic walls are here also visible.
Given its height and its geographical position, from Castel San Pietro Romano one can enjoy an immense and multifaceted panorama thanks to the multiplicity of its landscape circumstances. For these unique prerogatives, Castel San Pietro Romano has been metaphorically defined as “a balcony over the province of Rome”.
𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗿𝗮
In Roman times, the theory is that the summit of the mountain was linked to the religious practices of the *augurium*, so much so that it must have been the seat of the sanctuary of *Iuppiter*, called *Arcanus* from the term arx. The fortified walls of the urban area and its acropolis may have been part of a single defensive project, dating back to the 7th and 6th centuries. B.C. together with nearby Praeneste (modern Palestrina)
The town owes its name to the Apostle Peter who, according to legend, climbed this mountain to preach Christianity as opposed to the cult of the Goddess Fortuna Primigenia venerated in the pagan sanctuary below.
According to local tradition, it was Constantine himself, the first Christian emperor, who named it Castrum Sancti Petri.
𝗠𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗴𝗲
The feudal era at the end of 1200 saw the Colonna as protagonists of local history. Their dominion was bitterly opposed by Pope Boniface VIII who, to counter the growing power of the family, set the entire area on fire and flames.
However, the struggles and misunderstandings with the church continued until in 1630 Francesco Colonna ceded the estate to Carlo Barberini, brother of Pope Urban VIII.
These vicissitudes exposed Castel San Pietro to a continuous and inexorable decline.
In the Middle Ages Jacopone da Todi also stayed there for a long time, composing some of his most beautiful works in Castel S. Pietro, including the famous “Stabat Mater”.
The Blessed friar was also a guest in the galleys of the Rocca dei Colonna, where illustrious personalities such as S. Bernardo, bishop of the Marsi, and Corradino di Svevia spent some time on his last trip to Naples where he was executed.
𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗘𝗿𝗮
The town today is still intact with its pavement of cobblestones of local stone, with its characteristic alleys and squares that made Vittorio De Sica fall in love in the fifties, who chose Castel San Pietro Romano for some of his most important films: Bread, love and fantasy (Pane,Amore e Fantasia) directed by Luigi Comencini, with Vittorio De Sica and Gina Lollobrigida; “The two marshals” with Totò and De Sica.
