Top 5 BEST Places to Live in Newfoundland
Here is the much anticipated video on Newfoundland! In this video I cover what I believe to be 5 of the best places to call home in Newfoundland. Like I mentioned in this video, we are going to dedicate an entire video to Labrador. Leave some suggestions for the type of video you'd like to see. Newfoundland is a very isolated yet special place and it is one of Canada's most hidden gems. There are some fantastic places in Newfoundland you could call home. After visiting St. John's, NL in February of 2020, my outlook on the province completely changed, it blew my already high expectations out of the water, and I cannot wait to go back.
If you were to move to Newfoundland, where would you like to settle? What towns/cities did I miss?

Carbonear 2023
This video is best viewed in 1080p. Open the video in YouTube, go to settings, click on Quality and then 1080p.
* The town of Carbonear is one of the oldest permanent settlements in Newfoundland and among the oldest European settlements in North America. The harbour appears on early Portuguese maps as early as the late 1500s. as Cabo Carvoeiro (later anglicized as Cape Carviero). There are a number of different theories about the origin of the town's name. Possibly from the Spanish word carbonera (charcoal kiln); Carbonera, a town near Venice, Italy where John Cabot (Giovanni Caboto) had been resident; or from a number of French words, most likely Carbonnier or Charbonnier, meaning coalman.

Newfoundland Series Trailer
In August of 2019, Akane and I had the privilege of spending three weeks exploring one of Canada's most unique provinces - Newfoundland. Located on the far east stretches of the country, Newfoundland is a world of its own.
Join us for this amazing series as we explore the island beginning on the west coast.
We had a ton of adventures on this trip. Below is a brief itinerary of our adventure, and a hint to some of the videos and topics that will be explored as we move through Newfoundland.
We began on the west coast by taking a ferry from Nova Scotia to Newfoundland (Ferry Ride provided by Marine Atlantic).
The next day we spend the morning and afternoon exploring J.T. Cheeseman provincial park where we hiked some trails, and enjoyed the beach. From here, we headed north to the largest city on (on the west coast) of Corner Brook.
Within Corner Brook we stopped at Captain Cook National Historic Site and the Newfoundland Train Museum.
Moving north, we ended up staying 9 days in one of the most stunning National Parks in the country - Gros Morne. Here, we proceeded to hike every trail within the park. With a few trail closures, we didn't manage to to hike every single trail within the park, but were able to complete the majority of trails. (Discovery Pass and Rental Cabin provided by Parks Canada).
Moving north, we explored the small roadside attraction of Arches Provincial Park. From here, we stayed for a while at Port aux Choix National Historic Site. Here we learned about the Indigenous Community in the area, plus we spend some time with the Caribou who called this location home. (Discovery Pass provided by Parks Canada).
Moving north we ended up at one of the most interesting locations in the New World - L'anse aux Meadows - the first known Viking settlement in North America. (Discovery Pass and Escape Room provided by Parks Canada).
Next, we headed east and drove across the island to the capital city of St. John's, Newfoundland. Within St. John's we were able to get screeched in by the same person who screeched in Anthony Bourdain. We also had a chance to visit Signal Hill National Historic Site where we even had the chance to fire off muskets with their new program Defender of the Narrows. (Discovery Pass and Defender of the Narrows Experience provided by Parks Canada).
Early the next day, we headed to Cape Spear National Historic Site - the most eastern part of North America where we watched the sun come up to greet us. From there, we explored the grounds and lighthouse on site.
We moved south to La Mache Provincial Park to see the suspension bridge with stunning views.
After completing the Irish Loop, we headed toward the North part of the island to a small community with a big history. Harbour Grace was the location of Amelia Earharts beginning of her trip around the world. In addition, we also explored the SS Kyle, a ship that sunk just offshore.
We then went to Hearts Content Cable Station, the place that connected the Old World with the new, and the first Transatlantic wire was run.
Moving onward, our next step was Trinity. Here we hiked the famous Skerwink Trail, and explored the historic town of Trinity - located on Trinity Bay.
We ended the trip by visiting locations such as Dungeons Provincial Park and watching Puffins in Elliston.
This was an amazing trip! Although it sounds like a lot, we actually did much more, and that is why we are so excited to share this experience with you in video.

Tiny's Bar and Grill and a Ride to Carbonear
What a feed! I couldn't finish my clubhouse and fries...if you live in the St John's area, you really should drop by Tiny's Bar and Grill in Paradise for a meal.
Great ride today. Was going to be two, but we ended up doubling in numbers. We took the slow way out to Carbonear (Route 60). Had a coffee in Bay Roberts and made our way back to St John's via the Trans Canada.
Thanks for watching...I hope you got a little something positive from our ride.

Newfoundland and Labrador in a Week
I spent a week in Newfoundland. I was originally going to vlog my whole experience, but decided to instead make a video montage of the whole trip.
There are so many places I got to see. Here is a list of some of the places I saw in Newfoundland.
Signal Hill
St.johns
Bonavista
Witless Bay
Trinity
Winterton
Bay Bulls
Carbonear
Elliston
Cape St.Mary
Ferryland
No matter where you travel in the world it is amazing how great of a feeling it is when you make sure to take videos and photos as a memory with a purpose. This is the first time I went out of my way to take video instead of just photos on a trip and it is definitely a great keep sake to know I have this video to look back at. Anywhere I travel in the future I will definitely be either vlogging or doing another video montage.
If you have never visited Newfoundland it is definitely worth the trip and there is so much to explore and see.

SS Kyle & Amelia Earhart Tribute, Harbour Grace Newfoundland a must see in Conception Bay North
The SS Kyle got trapped in ice and was eventually grounded against a 10 story high iceberg. It was brought into Harbour Grace damaged, its owner had to decide its future. During a storm the moorings broke, high winds, and waves pushed the SS Kyle to its current and final resting place.

Is Newfoundland the only place that does this? Commemorating a man who almost wiped us off the map.
D'Iberville was an a**hole.
This isn't the narrative outside Newfoundland though, and this week I learned that the mythology of this man's courageous legacy has bled into the collective memory of the town of Carbonear.
