2. HOW TO GET TO CAMERON HIGHLANDS
So, how do we get to Cameron Highlands from Kuala Lumpur? The only access to the highlands is by road. It takes roughly about 3.5 - 4 hours drive from KL. There are basically 3 ways of getting there; (a) by bus, (b) booking a tour or (c) driving yourself.
(a) Taking a Bus
- From TBS, (Terminal Bersepadu Selatan) in Kuala Lumpur to Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands.
- One-way tickets cost about RM 35
- If you book online through the RedBus website ( there’s even an option to pick your seats and insurance coverage. (We're not sponsored but Redbus is the one that we frequently use for our travels)
(b) Booking a tour
- Hassle-free
- Most tour packages include transportation, a full-day itinerary, and an English-speaking tour guide. You can also approach your hotels and tourist information centers for more information.
(c) Driving
- There are 2 main routes to get there from the North-South Expressway.
- Option 1: by taking the Tapah Exit 132/Route 59. It is a shorter route hence faster but the road is very windy and narrow.
- Option 2: by taking the Simpang Pulai Exit 137/Route 185 (which is the route that we took). It is a slightly longer route, but the road is much straighter and more comfortable to drive on. Highly recommend especially if you have motion sickness. (30 minutes longer)
3. WHERE TO STAY IN CAMERON HIGHLANDS
There are 2 main areas in Cameron Highlands that the majority of the hotels are located; Tanah Rata and Brinchang.
➡️Where we stayed:
💥Century Pines Resort
- Tanah Rata:
Main administrative town, there are many shops, banks, tour agents, eateries and a bus terminal, which is where the buses from KL would stop. It is more commercialized here compared to Brinchang.
- Brinchang:
Second largest town after Tanah Rata. You’ll find the main center of Brinchang more densely developed compared to Tanah Rata with many apartments, shophouses and public buildings clustered closely together. There’s also the other side of Brinchang that’s closer to farms, tourist attractions, and nature.
Overall, there is a wide range of accommodations available in Cameron Highlands; you can find anything from budget homestays to mid-range and luxury hotels with a golf course attached to it. Some places even offer unique experiences like colonial-era bungalows, mini chalets, and a farm stay.
4. CAMERON HIGHLANDS TRAVEL TIPS:
#1 The Weather/Seasons
- very windy and cold especially morning and night. We do suggest bringing along a jacket.
- sunny at noon, do apply sunscreen
#2 Traffic Jams & Peak Periods
- Can get crowded and traffic jams are very common, especially during weekends, school holidays and festive seasons.
#3 Stay Duration
A day trip would be enough to cover the main attractions, whereas at least staying a night or two is preferred for a more relaxed trip.

CAMERON HIGHLANDS 4K - Travel Guide Malaysia: Mountains, TEA & Strawberries
The Cameron Highlands in Malaysia are a must-visit for its beautiful landscapes and views. There are many tea plantations between the mountains, but you will also find strawberry farms and lots of other fruits. Due to its climate, the Cameron Highlands have mossy jungles and misty peaks all in one place. Near the village of Brinchang we stay at Strawberry Park, the most beautiful hotel in the area with fantastic views over the valley. After an earlier city trip in Kuala Lumpur, a visit to the jungle in Taman Negara and this experience in the Cameron Highlands, we travel on to the 'Pearl of the Orient' Penang. We then conclude the adventurous route on the beautiful island of Langkawi!
We make our trip through Malaysia during a year-long world tour. We may even continue to travel indefinitely. On New Year's Day we started in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the Canary Islands. Then you saw us in Oman, Cape Verde, Martinique, Saint Lucia, Tobago, Grenada, the Bahamas, the United States, Mexico, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Brazil, Qatar, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam. Malaysia is already our nineteenth destination. Follow us on this world tour, first in Cameron Highlands, then the rest of Malaysia and then to many more beautiful destinations! We also cross over to Oceania and Africa! We travel non-stop all year round and film everything, with a new episode every week. Also take a look at instagram @woutoftheworld or

Deep dive into Cameron Highlands Travel Guide and Activities.
In part 2 of this Cameron Highlands Travel Guide video series, we went first to Adventurous ATV & Safari, 17km from our hotel. The view from the top of the hill looks really nice at Cameron Valley but the ATV path was not that adventurous.
After the ATV, we passed by Lavender Garden but it was really crowded therefore we continued to Parit Fall also know as Parit Waterfall. Parit waterfall is currently closed until further notice.
The last day of our Cameron Highlands trip, we went to Bharat Tea Plantation at Cameron Valley and the place is awesome.
Cameron Highlands known as Tanah Tinggi Cameron in Malay is a district in Pahang. The name Cameron was given to the Bristish explorer and geologist in the name of William Cameron who visited the area in 1885 who was commissioned by his colonial government to map out the Pahang-Perak border.
There are 3 subdistricts which are: Ringlet, Tanah Rata, and Ulu Telom. Tanah Rata is the most visited of them.
The Cameron Highland climate is a mix of rainforest and subtropical highland climate with an average yearly temperature of 18 degrees celsius.
The Cameron Highlands span over 71,000 hectares of land, so there is a lot to do in the district especially if you are a nature lover. For trekking lovers, the highest peak in Cameron Highlands is Mount Brinchang at 2,032 m in elevation.
These days, Cameron Highlands are home to a plethora of agricultural farms and there’s no place better in Malaysia to get fresher-than-fresh products. These farms and plantations make good sightseeing spots when you’re here.
Cameron Highlands is the land of farming, and people living in the area are lucky enough to have fresh fruits and vegetables.

Cameron Highlands was found in 1885 by William Cameron which was eventually have the area named in his honour.WilliamCameron, a British colonial government surveyor, accompanied by his companion, Kulop Riau, went on a mapping expedition of the Titiwangsa Range. In the expeditions, they used elephants to carry them for months in a journey to explore Titiwangsa Range. They started their adventurous tour from Tanjung Rambutan and started to trace the Kinta River to its origin. Not long after that, they stood on the summit of Mount Pondok Challi.
Cameron reported that he saw a plateau,of an elevation of 4,400 to 4,500ft, at an altitude of 1,800 m above sea-level and the temperature falls between 8°C-25°C.But Cameron failed to mark his find on the map.In the 1920s, the location of the plateau was finally confirmed by a consensus of reports from subsequent expeditions. That's how Cameron Highlands was discovered.
The fame of Cameron Highlands then grew during the colonial era when British planters realised the potential of it's fertile mountain slopes for growing tea, then a prized commodity. The area is also know as a major supplier of legumes and vegetables to both Malaysia and Singapore with it's many farms, and is one of Malaysia prime tourist destinations.

Deep dive into Cameron Highlands Travel Guide.
In part 1 of this Cameron Highlands Travel Guide video series, we departed from TBS in Kuala Lumpur to Cameron Highlands by bus at the price of RM38/Person.
KL to Cameron Highlands takes around 4h30 minutes by bus. If you like natural scenery, this is quite a fun trip to have deep into the jungles and high into the skies. Washroom breaks are available along the way to ensure everyone is at ease.
There seems a Cameron Highlands Vlog is always welcome, because it's quite refreshing to see nature at its purest form.
On the first day when we reached the Highlands, we stayed at YTS Hotel in Brinchang area (RM60/night). After resting for about an hour, we walked to Cactus Valley and to the Big Red Strawberry Farm; all at a distance of 15 minutes walk from the hotel.
You smell strawberries everywhere with some beautiful flowers all around the place.
We ended up at Golden Hills Weekend Night Market but there was a long queue because it was during Merdeka weekend which drove many people out of KL to Cameron Highlands.
They got some delicious foods which make you want to come back for more each time.
The following day was a long one as we hired a taxi driver to help us visit all the attractions in the Highlands.
The rate was RM25/hour with a minimum of 3 hours.
The first stop, we went to Cameron Valley BOH Tea Plantation: this is a vast farming land in Cameron Highlands founded by a British in the name of Russel in 1929, almost a century ago.
At the top of the hill there is the BOH Tea Centre where you can have snacks and drink the freshest tea in town while overlooking the plantation. Right behind the BOH Tea Centre, there is the Tea Factory.
We then left for the Bee Farm. In Cameron Highlands Bee Farm, they have the best and freshest honey.
Along the same road there is the Orchid and Rose Garden. This place offers all kind of flowers and roses are everywhere. O & R Garden has a small entrance fee of RM6/person.
5 Minutes from O & R Garden, there is the Butterfly and Reptiles Garden, which host different kind of reptiles and butterflies. The entrance fee is RM10/person. This one was kind of disappointing though because the garden is not that big.
It was then time to refresh our batteries, so we went to Raaju's Hill Strawberry Farm and had the most delicious strawberry milkshake.
Cameron Highlands is the land of farming, and people living in the area are lucky enough to have fresh fruits and vegetables.
We continued our Cameron Highlands journey to Time Tunnel, a mini museum that brought our memories back in time. Here you find tools and equipments that were being used in the 1800's and 1900's still preserved in a good state. Time Tunnel entrance fee is RM6/person.
We ended the day by having dinner and getting some deserts at Scot's CAFE.
