Calbuco eruption, about 10 minutes in.
This is footage I took from outside the front of my house on April 22nd, its about 10 minutes into the eruption of volcano Calbuco in Chile. While zoomed in you can really see the billowing clouds of ash and other pyroclastic mater being ejected. (This later on ended up raining down on us as ash, sand and rocks, nearly half a foot thick blanketing everything in sight).

Osorno Volcano & Petrohue Waterfalls | Stunning Views! | Puerto Montt, Chile
From the port of Puerto Montt, Chile, we visited the Osorno Volcano, driving up to an incredible viewpoint of the Andes Mountains. We could see the active volcano Calbuco and it looked like it was puffing smoke! To get there, we drove by Lake Llanquihu (Yank-Key-Way) with gorgeous views of Osorno. After trying kuchen in the mountain's shadow, we visited Petrohue (Petro-Way) Waterfalls of the Petrohue River which flows between crystallised (crystallized) lava. There are so many amazing viewpoints and a Lover's Trail that we explore. We enjoyed lunch, again with stunning views of Osorno, at Yankee Way Lodge (a takeoff of the lake's name). To end our time in Puerto Montt, we walked around the tourist town of Puerto Varas, known as the City of Roses, and enjoyed some ice cream.
The volcano, with its glacial peak, is breathtaking and I'd never seen a river that runs through old lava. It was gorgeous and had Osorno in the background. What a fantastic day!

🇨🇱 CLAMDIGGING on Quiet Isla Tenglo (Budget Travel Puerto Montt, CHILE}
Literally, and almost figuratively, a short hop, skip and a jump away from Puerto Montt, Chile is the tiny, and quiet, Isla Tenglo.
Historically a Native village, presently the island is inhabited by fishermen's families and other craftspeople. What has remained is the peaceful and tranquil nature of this small tract of land.
Matt takes a leisurely stroll along the beach before gaining some elevation on the local mountain where the panorama provides a view of the nearby volcanoes, including the active Calbuco.
Along the way meet the villagers going about their daily business. This includes a few yappy dogs.

The 1868 Arica earthquake was an earthquake recorded on August 13, 1868 around 4:00 p.m. local time. Its epicenter was located at -18,500, -70,350 off the coast of Arica, the current capital of the Arica and Parinacota Region, in Chile; and that it was then the capital of the Province of Arica, of the Department of Moquegua, in Peru. It is estimated that it released an energy equivalent to a 9.0 Mw earthquake.
The telluric event devastated a large part of southern Peru, especially the cities of Arequipa, Moquegua, Tacna, Islay, Arica and Iquique (these last two are currently in Chile). The earthquake was also perceived differently between Lambayeque in the north and Valdivia in the south, and even as far as Cochabamba in Bolivia. Following the main movement, a tsunami swept the Peruvian coast between Pisco and Iquique and crossed the Pacific Ocean, even reaching California, the Hawaiian Islands, the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.
The estimated death toll would reach 30 people in Chala, 10 in Arequipa, 150 in Moquegua, 3 in Tacna, 300 in Arica and 200 in Iquique.

📅 April, 2015 ▶️ I left the El Chaltén Area of Argentina and crossed into Chile towards Puerto Natales. From there, a three day cruise through the Westfjords of Chile on the Navimag took me to Puerto Montt. I decided to take a trip to Chiloé, just hours before Volcan Calbuco erupted in a spectacular manner. Leaving Chiloé towards Puerto Varas again, I got the first close up views of the still erupting Calbuco Volcano. It also happens to be that the friend of my Couchsurfing host from Frutillar has been escaping the initial eruption near the summit, surviving and becoming a national interest in the TV. Once the border reopened again, I started to hitch hike towards Puyehue and eventually crossed the border to Argentina. [Fun fact: In this video, you can see the longest ever recorded hair length of mine 💇]

R3D resolution video for volcano chile travel !!!
Volcano Calbuco erupted on December 22, 2016, for the first time in four decades. Located close to the cities of Puerto Varas and Puerto Montt in southern Chile. We (Jonas Dengler and Martin Heck) spend the prior couple of days on the neighboring volcano Osorno (~20km linear distance) shooting timelapses. After an amazing night under the nightsky we took the cable car downwards after a delay caused by repairs. Already late we headed south to catch the ferry on Routa 7 down to Patagonia. After 10min on the ferry we noticed a massive, almost nuclear looking cloud boiling upwards just were we left a few hours ago. Frenetically looking for a good outlook we then rushed to the only non-forested place to get a decent view of the show. We quickly put every bit of camera-equipment we could find on the constantly growing mushroom-cloud. We shot timelapses in 8K and 4K with a Pentax 645Z and Canon 6D. On the A7s we shot 4K video to the Shogun using Kingston HyperX SSDs. We filled almost all of our memory cards in the prior night so I had to do backups while shooting all this stuff.
This was for sure the most incredible show I've ever seen. I think this is a one in a lifetime event and I am so happy that we were able to capture it in all its glory.
