10. Guayaquil.
As Ecuador’s largest city with almost 2.7 million people, Guayaquil is the commercial heart of Ecuador. Located on the banks of the Guayas River that leads to the Pacific Ocean, the city was founded in 1538 by the Spanish conquistador Francisco de Orellana.
9. Mindo.
Mindo offers environmentally conscious travelers the best of two biodiversified ecosystems: the tropical Andes and the Chocoan lowlands. Here, visitors will see cloud forests, farmlands, three major rivers and hundreds of streams.
8. Salinas.
Salinas is the westernmost city in Ecuador, sitting on the Pacific Ocean, which makes it popular with surfers and yachters. Ecuador’s most popular beach resort city offers some great beaches.
7. Quilotoa Loop.
Hikers who enjoy trekking through the backcountry surely will enjoy the Quilotoa loop, a trail that takes visitors through several of Ecuador’s remote Andean villages.
6. Riobamba.
Riobamba, a city in the Andean highlands, is notable for a couple of reasons. One is its proximity to Chimaborazo, Ecuador’s highest mountain that stands 6,268 meters (20,564 feet) above sea level.

The small city of Baños lies at the foot of the active volcano Tungurahua. Named after the hot springs fed by the thermal waters of the volcano, Baños is one of the most popular places to visit in Ecuador.
4. Cuenca.
Cuenca, the capital of Azuay Province, is noted for its many old colonial buildings. A classic example of a planned Renaissance town in the Americas, Cuenca shares many architectural features with Old Quito.
3. Otavalo.
Otavalo is home to one of the most colorful, important weekly markets in the Andes. It’s the place to go for traditional handmade craft items, including the exquisite textiles the city is famous for, leather goods and jewelry. The market has been going on for centuries, since even before the Incas.

At 2,800 meters (9,350 feet) above sea level, the Ecuadoran capital of Quito is the highest capital city in the world. This cosmopolitan city of 2.2 million people is located in an active volcano section of the Andes.

Cuenca Day Trip to Yunguilla Valley and EL Chorro Waterfall | ECUADOR
Yunguilla Ecuador is home to amazing views and traditional Ecuadorian food that is difficult to find elsewhere in the country. It is a perfect Ecuador road trip, and along the way check out these spots.
Los Alamos in Naranjal is a bakery just on the side of the road on the way to Yunguilla valley and it is known to have some the best empanadas.
The empanada is actually super soft, almost like a pizza crust. I can see why this is one of the best places for empanadas in Ecuador.
Lácteos El Paso which is on the way to Yunguilla Valley. And we stopped here for yogurt and ice cream. In this region, there is probably eight billion dollars worth of gold below. And so Ecuador has kind of a not so great history of mining. Where mining companies, mostly from China and Canada, have come into different regions and have basically extracted what they wanted from the land, gave a little bit of opportunity and money to the community. But then left the land, basically destroyed
Here they learned from other regions and they do not want to give up their land, which is primarily dairy farming for the short term opportunity of gold and the promises that they know these mining companies are not going to keep.
Portete de Tarqui is a war monument, long history in Latin America, but basically, this one is for the war between Ecuador and Peru, which obviously no longer exists.
El Chorro actually doesn't mean waterfall, it means stream. And that's because there are so many big waterfalls in Ecuador that this is more like a stream. It's a 10 minute walk to this waterfall in Giron. Be sure to bring a rainjacket. Entry is $3 and money goes directly to the community.
La Fritada de la Union is a great spot for cascaritas and sancocho in Yunguilla Ecuador. Cascaritas are actually blow torched pork skin.
It has the texture of what it would be like if it were deep fried because it's very crispy but there's no oil added. It's just simply blowtorched. And so then you have this dish called sancocho is not like in Cuba or Colombia where it is a soup.
t's put into a large bronze pot and then it's cooked in its own pork lard. So, that is what we are here for. Cascaritas is like a pork chip. It's different than chicharron. It's almost like glass.
Sancocho is different than hornado. It's crispy on the outside. It almost has a little bit of a crust and then super tender in the middle. Hornado might be one of the most popular dishes in Ecuador.If you want to try something very traditional that you can't have anywhere, cascaritas and sancocho is definitely a dish you need to try.
Zafrah means sugarcane plantation and here you can try sugarcane juice, aguardiente, guarapo and mapanagua. It's a modern spot, which I like because it gives hope for continuing this tradition.
Cafeteria Sabor Oriental refers to the Orient in Ecuador. The owner here spent some time in the Amazon. We came for the bolon and for the yucca. Bolon is green plantain that has been mashed. On the interior you have cheese or also here you have fritada which is crispy bits of pork and of course you get salad.

La provincia del Cañar, ubicada en la región austral es una de las más antiguas del país. Tiene un clima clásico templado de sierra, excepto por su porción occidental, donde se torna húmedo y cálido.
Azogues, su capital, tiene importantes sitios turísticos como el Santuario Franciscano y su centro histórico. En la parroquia Cojitambo —a siete kilómetros de la ciudad— está el cerro y complejo arqueológico de Cojitambo, asentamiento Cañari-Inca.
Cañar es conocido como el cantón verde del austro por sus amplios campos cultivados. Biblián es un importante atractivo por su santuario de la Virgen del Rocío. Asimismo, las ruinas incas de Ingapirca son las más grandes y representativas del Ecuador y son la mayor atracción turística de la zona.

Los comunicadores tuvieron la oportunidad de visitar varios atractivos como los Manglares Churute en Guayas, donde conocieron el proceso de recolección de cangrejos; el Complejo Arqueológico de Ingapirca en Cañar, aquí el protagonista fue su asombrosa ingeniería; y el Parque Nacional El Cajas en Azuay, donde disfrutaron la tranquilidad de la naturaleza.
La campaña ´Viaja Primero Ecuador´ cuenta con varias estrategias como la exposición de los destinos y paquetes turísticos a través de la difusión de experiencias de periodistas nacionales; así como la vinculación de prestadores de servicios turísticos como aerolíneas, hoteles, agencias de viajes, entre otros.

Viaje de Familiarización Empresarios Turísticos Azuay - Cañar
El Ministerio de Turismo, a través de la Dirección de Mercados Nacionales, organizó visitas especializadas con empresarios turísticos de Quito y Guayaquil a las provincias de Azuay y Cañar, para conocer nuevos circuitos turísticos que incorporan lugares como: Orquideario de Gualaceo, Poblado Indígena Guavidula, Complejo Acuático Planeta Azul y Parque Nacional El Cajas en Azuay; y Ruta ferroviaria Tambo-- Coyoctor -Tambo, Santuario de la Virgen del Rocío o Complejo Arqueológico ´Baños del Inca´ en Cañar.
Estos viajes de familiarización no solo aportan al descubriento y uso de nuevos atractivos, sino también contribuyen a dinamizar la economía de la zona correspondiente y apoyan a la campaña Viaja primero Ecuador que fue desarrollada para impulsar el turismo interno.
Chordeleg en Azuay, se ha convertido en una parada obligatoria para todos los amantes de la orfebrería, aquí se puede observar el arete más grande del mundo conocido como ´La Candonga´, elaborado con 18.500 gramos de plata. Por otro lado, Cañar es por excelencia la Capital Arqueológica del Ecuador¨, aquí se puede visitar las Ruinas de Ingapirca, Ruinas Arqueológicas de Cojitambo y el Complejo Arqueológico de Coyoctor.
Todos los ecuatorianos debemos sentirnos orgullosos de conocer la riqueza cultural, arquitectónica y gastronómica que nos convierte en una potencia turística para contarle al mundo que todo lo que necesita es Ecuador.

Cuenca Day Trip to the Artisanal Villages of Gualaceo Chordeleg Sigsig | ECUADOR
Andres takes me on one of his most popular tours from Cuenca to the artisanal villages of Gualaceo, Sigsig, Chordeleg and San Bartholome.
In San Bartholome we stopped at one of the famous guitar makers. They make everything by hand and it was so impressive.
We moved onto Sigsig for breakfast, then went to buy Panama Hats from a collective. You can find Panama Hats everywhere but Sigsig is known to have some of the best weavers and also the best deals.
We moved onto Chobshi to walk to a waterfall.
Then onto Chordeleg, known for its artisanal jewelry makers with the filigree and also really interesting ceramics. I tried craft beer in the squre and sugarcane juice called guaro.
And we ended it with one of my favourite towns in Ecuador. Gualaceo should be a UNESCO World Heritage Site for food, they really maintain the traditional cuisine. We had lunch at the Mercado 25 de junio and then traditional tortillas of maiz, choclo and wheat.
And then onto one of the best hornados in Ecuador with pepa de sambo aji.
Finally Casa Museo de la Makana is one of the last textile makers using traditional Inca and Cañari techniques. The signature textile is the makana shawl. During the colonial period this was one of the most important pieces to wear for special occasions in the province. You can still see people wearing this traditional piece today.
And of course, they apply the use of the Makana. That texture is so important to the culture even today his son also creates streetwear using the Makana fabrics. So this is one of the designs. It takes 15 days to make, all by hand, including this part, which is all embroidered. And it's only $80. And look at all of the colors, the colors all made by hand as well.
The Jimenez family has been preserving this forgotten craft for generations. Everything is handmade from counting the thread, dying it with natural plants and weaving into fabric. This is a must visit in Gualaceo.
