After surprising my Mum with her dream trip to Cuba we flew over to the capital Havana to spend a few days there before our tour in Western Cuba began.
All major sights in Old Havanna are in walking distance such as El Capitolio , the Museum of the Revolution, Plaza Vieja or the Great Theatre to name just a few. Take a day to roam the narrow streets of the old town and make sure to have a drink at the roof of the Hotel Ambos Mundos!

--About my Cooperation with G Adventures—
A massive thanks goes out to my Sponsor G Adventures who helped me to pull this off and who were absolute legends in organizing this awesome „Cuba Libre“ tour.
For many years I was searching for a suitable partner who offers tours which align with my style of traveling as well as my values. After many meetings I’m glad I found this partner with G Adventures who offer many adventurous tour packages for travelers like me…but who also care about the environment and local communities in order to execute sustainable tourism. I forced this cooperation because I like the products and the philosophy of the company. Nevertheless all opinions, recommendations and views are my own.

Cuba Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
Cuba – Enjoy old-world architecture, famous cigars and classic cars in this long-isolated island nation. Check out Cuba’s top sights for travelers.
When ready, browse vacation packages to Cuba:
Despite being within easy reach of Florida and the Bahamas, #Cuba exists in a time and space all its own.
Explore Cuba’s capital, Havana, a city preserved by forts, a five-mile seawall, and an imposed embargo, which held back the excesses of the 20th century for over 50 years. Havana’s lure can be hard to resist, but a #vacation in Cuba can offer so much more beyond the seductive lights of its capital. In Cuba, a long sandy beach is never far away.
Sometimes it’s hard to know whether Cuba is awakening to the world, or if the world is awakening to Cuba. Whatever your politics, it's easy to admire this island nation that has proudly gone its own way. Cuba may still have one foot firmly in the past, but as the world tumbles towards tomorrow, we can be thankful for the many things it has not let go.
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

Bike Ride to Cardenas from Varadero Cuba
Beth and I took a nice quiet back road to Cardenas from our hotel in Varadero. It's about a 40 km round trip. There is lots to explore in Cardenas, especially along its main street.
Here is some of the history of Cardenas courtesy of Wikipedia.
The Cuban Flag was first raised over Cuba in this historic city of straight and narrow streets (the Charleston of the Caribbean), horse-drawn carriages, industry and cangrejos (blue crabs). It was in Cárdenas where José Arechabala launched and started production of Havana Club rum in 1934.
The city was not laid out in the traditional central-plaza Spanish custom, but rather, inspired by a North American perpendicular grid pattern, modeled on the city of Charleston, South Carolina, with the help of American (Confederate) landscape engineers.
In 1850, the Venezuelan General Narciso López, along with some Americans and Cuban exiles (including Gonzales), landed here on a filibustering expedition, and held the town for a few hours, abandoning it when he saw that the people would not rise to support him in his efforts to secure Cuban independence. López did, however, raise for the first time the modern Flag of Cuba, designed by him along with a local Cuban Miguel Teurbe Tolon.
In the late 19th century and early 20th Century, Cárdenas was one of the main sugar-exporting towns of Cuba and had received a great influx of European immigrants, including from Ireland, France, Italy, and Corsica - many Cárdenas families were known for having foreign-sounding surnames, such as Jones, Larrieu, Smith, Villa-Giorgi and Sterling, among others.

We had a great time in Cuba visiting different Cuban cities and nice places.
Havana, Matanzas, Cardenas, Cienfuegos
