RWANDA : 10 Endroits qu'Il Faut y visiter à Tout Prix

A day trip to Butare, a city two hours south of the Rwandan capital, Kigali.

The Hotel Rwanda! (A visit to the Hôtel des Mille Collines & the journey to Huye / Butare) 🇷🇼
My second day in Kigali brought me to the Hôtel des Mille Collines, also known as the Hotel Rwanda. It was here that hotel manager (himself a Hutu) kept over 1,000 Tutsis safe inside of the hotel grounds; it is for this reason that he is regarded as a modern day Oskar Schindler.
After touring the hotel, I headed into downtown Kigali for a quick coffee at the Camellia cafe, then headed out of town. I hopped on board a minibus and travelled to the south of Rwanda, to the city of Huye / Butare, which would be my launching point to the Murambi genocide memorial the following day.

Markets in Butare
Wandering through the street markets in Butare, Rwanda.
Rwanda's capital will blow your mind! (Kigali Genocide Memorial Center & a visit to Camp Kigali) 🇷🇼
I started my first day in Kigali with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, where over 250,000 victims are buried in mass graves. This incredible historical center and memorial provides a wealth of information regarding the events of the genocide, and has remarkable displays in memory of the one million victims of this crime against humanity.
After the national memorial, I headed to Camp Kigali to visit the memorial to the 10 Belgian UN Peacekeepers that lost their lives here, taking refuge in a small building, armed with just two side arms to defend themselves; their fate was soon sealed. Rwanda has made a dedicated effort to face the horrors of the genocide head on, and work towards healing the previous ethnic conflict in the nation.
Kigali is a city that is rising from the ashes. Nicknamed the Singapore of Africa, this city is one of the most prosperous in Africa, with a young entrepreneurial population and a booming economy. It is, without a doubt, where the rest of the continent is headed throughout the rest of the 21st century.

Deep waters of many mountain hills of Rwanda, it is clear, cool. One child proudly showed me his notebook. The school learns English as the official language. The children had welcomed me with a song. This seemed unfortunate parting, the children gave me far to see off the village.
