Verona : The 5 Hidden Gems You NEED to See
Join us as we explore Verona, the enchanting historic city in northern Italy that has captivated travelers for centuries. In this video, we’ll take you through our Top 5 must-see spots in Verona — perfect for anyone planning a weekend getaway or a quick visit. From ancient Roman architecture to picturesque views, Verona has it all! A Stroll Through Verona
1. Arena di Verona (00:10)
We kick off our tour with the Arena di Verona, one of Italy's most famous Roman amphitheaters and the third largest in the country. Built in the 1st century, this massive structure still hosts operas and concerts today, giving you a chance to experience history and art in a breathtaking setting. The Arena’s grand architecture and incredible acoustics make it a must-see landmark.
2. Piazza delle Erbe (02:30)
Next, we head to Piazza delle Erbe, Verona’s oldest square. Once a Roman forum, it’s now a bustling marketplace surrounded by stunning Renaissance buildings, historic frescoes, and iconic statues like the Madonna Verona fountain. The lively atmosphere and beautiful architecture make it the perfect spot to take in the essence of Verona.
3. Casa di Giulietta (05:23)
A visit to Verona isn’t complete without a stop at Casa di Giulietta, the legendary home of Juliet Capulet from Shakespeare’s famous “Romeo and Juliet.” Here, you can see the famous balcony and even leave a note on the wall for good luck in love. This romantic and iconic spot is a must-see for literature lovers and romantics alike.
4. Torre dei Lamberti (07:07)
For the best panoramic views of Verona, we climbed the Torre dei Lamberti. This 84-meter tower offers an incredible 360-degree view of the city, including the surrounding mountains and the winding Adige River. You can take the stairs or the elevator to the top, where you’ll experience one of Verona’s most unforgettable vistas.
5. Ponte Pietra (09:15)
Our tour wraps up at Ponte Pietra, an ancient Roman bridge spanning the Adige River. Ponte Pietra is the perfect spot to capture a picture-postcard view of Verona, especially at sunset when the city lights up in warm tones. This bridge is a peaceful, romantic spot that gives you a true sense of Verona’s historic beauty.
To complete our weekend experience, we enjoyed a delicious Italian lunch and a classic Aperitivo to wind down the day. Nothing beats an authentic Italian meal paired with a refreshing Aperol Spritz while soaking in Verona’s ambiance!

The Molina Waterfall Park (Verona) - Discover Italy
The Molina Waterfall Park is located south-east of Molina,
It includes the last part of the Molina Valley and the area that connects it with the Cesara Valley and the “Vaio delle Scalucce” . The final emersion of the Lessini region took place during the Tertiary era, 25 -30 million years ago, and the rocks in this area, since the moment of their subaerial exposition, were subjected to the action of atmospheric agents which caused their modification and fragmentation.
The hydrographic system of the highest part of the Fumane valley has a fluvial origin and displays a juvenile morphology, with steep walls and V-shaped tight bottoms. The waterfalls were originated along the rivers because of the presence of rocks with different levels of erodibility.
The clayey waterproof layers of the Biancone limestone prevent meteoric water from filtering under the ground, thus causing the creation of springs.
Due to the action of the stream, we can admire characteristic shapes such as furrows, niches, and erosion materials, visible not only on today’s river’s course, but also on the side walls, testifying to the river’s course in the past.
This territory is characterized by its abundance of water, thanks to the existence of perennial springs north of Molina. Apart from the bubbly waterfalls, the Park also offers a landscape of woods and meadows, crossed by torrents and small rivers, and characterized by the green color of the varied vegetation and the grey of the rocks.
In the Park you can see a synthesis of the low-mountain landscape, where several paths and itineraries can offer visitors the calm solemnity of a crashing waterfall here, a colorful, full of flowers meadow between a wood and a precipice there, or the whirls of a tumultuous torrent.

VISIT THE SAFARI & FAUNA PARK IN VERONA WITH ME
Hello guys!
I recently visited the Parco Natura Viva fauna park in Verona, Italy.
It is a great experience which allows us to see some of the most beautiful creatures of this world in their habitat in a safe way for them.
Parco Natura Viva in Bussolengo (VR) has taken on the ambitious role of being a center for the protection of endagered animal species.
I fully support this project and appreciate all the hard work behind it.
After the safari visit (done exclusively by car) there was the Fauna Park visit, by foot, well organised in continents with the different animal species.

HIDDEN VERONA - EXPLORING THE BASTION OF SAINT GEORGE
HIDDEN VERONA - DISCOVERING THE BASTION OF SAINT GEORGE
VERONA! THE ROMANTIC CITY OF ITALY! POPULAR FOR THE TRAGEDY OF ROMEO AND JULIET, THE ARENA, THE OLD TOWN! BUT ALSO FOR ITS FORTIFICATIONS! MORE THAN 2,000 YEARS OF HISTORY WITHIN ITS WALLS, GATES AND TOWERS THAT TODAY ARE MORE THAN 6 MILES LONG, THIS IS WHY IN 2000 VERONA WAS DECLARED A WORLD HERITAGE SITE! TODAY WE EXPLORE THE UNDERGROUND PART OF THIS HUGE STRUCTURE, THE LESS KNOWN, THE BASTION OF SAINT GEORGE, BUILT BY THE AUSTRIANS BETWEEN 1836 AND 1840 ON A PREVIOUS VENETIAN BASTION OF VERONA, AND STILL VERY WELL PRESERVED!
PROFESSOR MAURIZIO D'ALESSANDRO, THE GROUP LEADER OF THE VOLUNTEERS FROM VERONA WHO MADE POSSIBLE THE VISITS, GUIDES ME THROUGH THE BOWELS OF THE BASTION
THE AUSTRIAN BASTION OF SAINT GEORGE HAD THE PURPOSE OF DEFENDING THE POSTAL ROAD TO THE TYROL, WHICH PASSED THROUGH TRENTO GATE – BETTER KNOWN AS SAINT GEORGE GATE - TO DEFEND THE CITY FROM THE ENEMIES COMING FROM THE RIVER, AND IT IS PART OF A NETWORK OF FORTRESSES BUILT ON THE HILLS AROUND THE CITY TO DETER THE ENEMY FROM ATTACKING VERONA. THIS IS THE LAST LINK OF A FORTIFIED CHAIN THAT RUNS AROUND THE HILLS OF VERONA.
THE AUSTRIAN BASTION OF SAINT GEORGE IS WELL PRESERVED. IT MIGHT SEEM A PARADOX BECAUSE THIS IS A DEFENSIVE STRUCTURE SO MADE TO RESIST TO BOMBS, BUT THE AUSTRIAN MILITARY ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS TOOK CARE OF THE BEAUTY OF THE BASTION. THE FLOOR IS MADE OF COTTO TILES, LAID IN HERRINGBONE PATTERN. THE VAULTS ARE ALL VERY WELL MANUFACTURED, ALSO TO PROVIDE A PROPER THERMAL INSULATION. EVERYTHING HERE IS MANUFACTURED WITH PATIENCE AND PRECISION AND NICE TO THE SIGHT. THE BASTION HAD THE CHANCE TO INSTALL ARTILLERY, LIKE MORTARS, WHILE OUTSIDE WAS BETTER TO PLACE CANNONS WITH A LONGER RANGE.
IN A TUNNEL OF THE BASTION IT’S WRITTEN “DON’T STAND HERE”. IT’S QUITE STRANGE THAT IT’S WRITTEN IN ITALIAN SINCE THE BASTION IS AUTRIAN, BUT IT WAS WRITTEN DUING THE SECOND WORLD WAR, WHEN THIS AREA WAS PART OF THE KINGDOM OF ITALY. SO DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR THE BASTION WAS USED AS A SHELTER FOR THE POPULATION DURING AIR BOMBINGS
ANOTHER PROOF OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR ARE THOSE DRY-STONE WALLS THAT ARE BUILT TO PREVENT DANGEROUS AIR MASS MOVEMENTS INSIDE THE TUNNEL CAUSED BY A BOMB. THE AUSTRIANS DEVISED THIS KIND OF BARRICADE SYSTEM WITH WALLS LEANING AGAINST THE TUNNEL TO BREAK THE SHOCK WAVE, AND THE WALLS ARE ALTERNATELY PLACED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE TUNNEL, STRENGHTEN THEIR EFFECT.
THE WALL OF THE BASTION OF SAINT GEORGE IT’S ABOUT 6 FEET THICK. UNFORTUNATELY IN THE 1950S AND 1960S THEY COVERED THE MOAT WITH AT LEAST 10 FEET OF TERRAIN. THE FORMER AUSTRIAN MOAT HAD TO BE MORE OR LESS 20 FEET DEEP, SO IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE FOR THE ENEMY TO JUST JUMP DOWN TO ATTACK THE BASTION, THEY HAD TO WENT DOWN WITH ROPES OR LADDERS, SO THEY WERE FORCED TO SLOW DOWN.
IN SOME CASES THE SPACES OF THE BASTION ARE FULL OF TERRAIN AND DEBRIS BROUGHT BY FLOODS AND RAIN, AS CAN BE SEEN BY OBSERVING SOME LOOPHOLES, WHICH ARE NOW AT THE GROUND LEVEL. IT’S NOT EASY TO CLEAR THESE TIGHT SPACES, BECAUSE HERE YOU CAN USE ONLY SHOVELS AND WHEELBARROWS TO REMOVE THE DEBRIS
TO KEEP THIS SPOT SAFE THE AUSTRIANS DEVISED A SERIES OF INNOVATIVE SYSTEMS: A TUNNEL WITH RIFLEMEN ON THE SIDE OF THE PONTARA, A T-SHAPED TUNNEL TO SHOOT IN FRONT OF THOSE WHO WENT DOWN INTO THE PONTARA, PLUS ANOTHER TUNNEL ABOVE THE ONE WHERE WE ARE NOW, SO THERE ARE TWO ORDERS OF RIFLEMEN ON THE SIDE OF THE PONTARA.
THE BEAUTIFUL SPIRAL STAIRCASE CLIMBS CLOCKWISE AND THE WIDE PART OF THE STEPS IS ON THE LEFT. THUS TO FACILITATE THE SOLDIERS TO CLIMB UP THE STRAIRCASE QUICKLY DURING ASSAULTS BECAUSE IN MOST CASES THEY WERE RIGHT HANDED SO THEY HAD THE RIFLE ON THE RIGHT SHOULDER. DON’T FORGET THAT AT THE TIME THE RIFLES WERE BULKY AND COULD BE UP TO 7 FEET LONG!
THE UPPER GALLERY IS A VERY SHORT GALLERY, IT’S ABOUT 130 FEET LONG. THIS ONE AND THE GALLERY ABOVE ALLOWED THE SOLDIERS TO PERFECTLY DEFEND THE PONTARA. SINCE WE ARE ON THE UPPER GALLERY THE LOOPHOLES HERE ARE ALMOST VERTICAL BECAUSE THE SOLDIERS HAD TO SHOOT DOWNWARDS. ON THE LEFT THERE IS A WINDOW OPENED TO ALLOW THE AIR STREAM BECAUSE THE RIFLES PRODUCED A HEAVY AND DENSE SMOKE THAT COULD BURN THE PULMONARY MUCOUS MEMBRANES.
THE AUSTRIAN ENGINEERS DESIGNED A SPECIAL ROOM WITH LOOPHOLES FOR RIFLEMES ON THREE SIDES, SO THAT IF THE ENEMY HAD ATTACKED HE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A LETHAL TRAP. ONCE YOU GET THERE THERE IS NO CHANCE TO GET OUT ALIVE!
RIGHT HERE LIVED THE KEEPERS OF THE OPEN-AIR MOVIE THEATRE SET UP IN 1945 IN THE COURTYARD OF THE BASTION, AS WELL AS THE BALLROOM CALLED IL GRILLO. THAT WAS THE WAY OF THE CITIZEN OF VERONA TO COME BACK TO LIFE AND TRY TO FORGET THE DIFFICULT TIMES OF THE WAR
