The Rufford Branch by Narrowboat - Burscough to Tarleton
Having turned off the Leeds and Liverpool Canal Main Line onto the Rufford Branch we find it a lot quieter. Leaving Burscough Junction behind us the countryside becomes quite flat with hills seen only at a distance. We pass through Rufford where there are two marinas each with good cafes and facilities for passing boats. There are also visitor moorings beyond the bridge where you can stop to visit nearby Rufford Hall owned by the National Trust.

Journey Review | Ormskirk to Preston | 777Trains
In todays video we are travelling with Northern Rail between Ormskirk and Preston on the Ormskirk Branch line. This line sees an hourly service calling at Burscough Junction, Rufford, Croston and Preston! It is currently operated by Northern rail, but in the future is proposed to be Merseyrail operated with their battery Class 777/1's.

Burscough Bridge Station 28/8/19
In the last week of August we spend the week travelling around Yorkshire and West Lancashire, These are the individual station videos for that week, it also has to be said this will be the last batch of Northern Rail operated stations we visit for a while as we are pleased to say we have covered all the stations on the Northern Network that see services operated by the Pacer units.

A drive through Lathom & Burscough in West Lancashire
Leeds and Liverpool Canal - Plank Lane to Burscough
Leaving the Bridgewater Canal in Leigh we cruise a section of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal through Wigan, and Parbold to Burscough where the canal splits. Instead of going straight on towards central Liverpool we will be turning right here that will eventually take us further north.
Lake Burwain - Lancashire, UK
Lake Burwain is also known as Foulridge Lower Reservoir.
National Trust - Rufford Old Hall & Grounds
Visited Rufford Old Hall National Trust today. What a lovely way to spend a few hours. A 500 year old Tudor house with a Jacobean red brick wing in Lancashire, not far from Ormskirk. It has quite an impressive Grand Hall with extensive gardens, framed nicely on one side by the canal. There's a really nice marina the other side of St Mary's that's also worth a visit.
Heyford Wharf, Canal And Railway Station:
Heyford railway station serves the village of Lower Heyford and surrounding areas in Oxfordshire, England. It is on the Cherwell Valley Line and is ideally located for visiting the Oxford Canal and Heyford Wharf, which are both alongside. The station, and the ten trains each Monday to Saturday serving it, are operated by Great Western Railway.
This would be an ideal train & walk station but unfortunately no trains stop here on a Sunday

'The North Country Rambler' 02-05-11 part 1: Burscough Bridge, Manchester Vic. and Miles Platting
On 2nd May 2011, Compass Tours ran 'The North Country Rambler' from Southport to Carlisle and return. This, the first of 6 parts, sees the empty stock from Carnforth to Southport arriving at Burscough Bridge 10 mins early and departing on time, after waiting at a red light for 10 mins. Next, we move on to Manchester Victoria, where the train arrived 20 mins early, giving an opportunity to go out onto the platform. Here we see metros 1018 and 3001, a class 150 and 158757. Finally, the train leaves Victoria and heads up miles platting bank to the junction, where we diverge onto the line to Stalybridge. Part 2 to follow.
