WHERE TO STAY IN BUDAPEST: A DISTRICT GUIDE -- True Guide Budapest

The city of Budapest covers more than 500 square kilometers. It is split down the middle by the River Danube, with the residential and hilly Buda on the west side, and the commercial, flat Pest on the east side of it. Budapest has 23 districts (kerület in Hungarian), which are numbered clockwise in widening circles (like Paris' arrondissements). It is easy to find the district from the address of a location, as the two middle digits of the four number zip code indicate it (for example: zip code 1056 means 5th district).
I created this district guide to help you choose where to stay in Budapest depending on the atmosphere and your travel style.

DISTRICT I.: romantic / first time visit
this is the castle district

DISTRICTS II., III., OR XII.: to enjoy greenery and relax
these are all on the hilly Buda side (Rózsadomb, Óbuda, Svábhegy)

DISTRICT V.: the downtown, ideal for business or for families with smaller kids
the city centre (Belváros)

DISTRICT VI.: on a budget and/or to enjoy the culture of the city
this are is called Terézváros

DISTRICT VII.: the Jewish neighborhood but also has great nightlife
this are is called Erzsébetváros

DISTRICTS VIII. AND IX.: cool but perhaps rough neighborhoods
they are called Józsefváros and Ferencváros

DISTRICTS IV. AND X.: they are mainly lower middle class residential and industrial districts
they are called Újpest and Kőbánya

DISTRICTS XI., XIII., AND XIV.: primarily upper middle class residential
district XI. is called Újbuda (on the Buda side), XIII. is Újlipótváros and XIV. is Zugló.

ALL OTHER DISTRICTS (XV., XVI., XVII., XVIII., XIX., XX., XXI., XXII., XXIII.) are further out from the city

I am a proud local Hungarian living in Budapest.
I was born and have lived in this beautiful city, Budapest for decades. I am in love with it - and not because I haven’t seen anything else. I am a seasoned traveller and I have also spent many years living abroad. However, my heart (and wife, and jobs and goulash soup and lángos) have pulled me back to my birth town. I love this city and know it inside out.
If you are fed up with the formal (and often wrong) recommendations of guide books, then follow my channel to find advice from a real local. I give you practical tips, show you cool spots and help you avoid tourist traps.

I live and love Budapest, I want to share my tips with you.

ബുഡാപെസ്റ്റിലൂടെ ഓട്ടപ്രദക്ഷിണം | EP 12 - Exploring Budapest, Hungary | Europe Travel Series

Budapest is the capital city of Hungary. With a unique, youthful atmosphere, world-class classical music scene, a pulsating nightlife increasingly appreciated among European youth, and last but not least, an exceptional offer of natural thermal baths, Budapest is one of Europe's most delightful and enjoyable cities. Due to the exceedingly scenic setting, and its architecture it is nicknamed Paris of the East.

The modern-day Budapest results from the amalgamation of two historic cities lying right opposite each other over the Danube river. Buda is the western (left) bank side, with the high hill atop which the Buda castle sits. Pest is the relatively flat eastern (right) bank side, with the Parliament, numerous other stately buildings, and busy streets retaining all their 19th century architectural heritage.

In 1987 Budapest was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List for the cultural and architectural significance of the Banks of the Danube, the Buda Castle Quarter and Andrássy Avenue.

Hongarije, BUDAPEST

Budapest is the capital and the largest city of Hungary, the largest in East-Central Europe and the seventh largest in the European Union. It is the country's principal political, cultural, commercial, industrial, and transportation centre, sometimes described as the primate city of Hungary. In 2011, according to the census, Budapest had 1.74 million inhabitants, down from its 1989 peak of 2.1 million due to suburbanization. The Budapest Commuter Area is home to 3.3 million people. The city covers an area of 525 square kilometres (202.7 sq mi) within the city limits. Budapest became a single city occupying both banks of the river Danube with a unification on 17 November 1873 of west-bank Buda and Óbuda with east-bank Pest. The history of Budapest began with Aquincum, originally a Celtic settlement that became the Roman capital of Lower Pannonia.] Hungarians arrived in the territory in the 9th century. Their first settlement was pillaged by the Mongols in 1241-42. The re-established town became one of the centres of Renaissance humanist culture in the 15th century. Following the Battle of Mohács and nearly 150 years of Ottoman rule, the region entered a new age of prosperity in the 18th and 19th centuries, and Budapest became a global city after the 1873 unification. It also became the second capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, a great power that dissolved in 1918, following World War I. Budapest was the focal point of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848, the Hungarian Republic of Councils of 1919, Operation Panzerfaust in 1944, the Battle of Budapest in 1945, and the Revolution of 1956.Cited as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe,[1][19][20] its extensive World Heritage Site includes the banks of the Danube, the Buda Castle Quarter, Andrássy Avenue, Heroes' Square and the Millennium Underground Railway, the second oldest in the world. Other highlights include a total of 80 geothermal springs, the world's largest thermal water cave system, second largest synagogue, and third largest Parliament building. The city attracts about 4.3 million tourists a year, making it the 25th most popular city in the world (and the 6th in Europe) according to Euromonitor. Considered a financial hub in Central Europe, the city ranked 3rd (out of 65 cities) on Mastercard's Emerging Markets Index,[26] and ranked as the most livable Central/Eastern European city on EIU's quality of life index. It is also ranked as Europe's 7th most idyllic place to live by Forbes, and as the 9th most beautiful city in the world by UCityGuides. It is the highest ranked Central/Eastern European city on Innovation Cities' Top 100 index. Budapest is home to the headquarters of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), and the first foreign office of the China Investment Promotion Agency (CIPA).
