WHERE TO STAY IN BUDAPEST: A DISTRICT GUIDE -- True Guide Budapest

The city of Budapest covers more than 500 square kilometers. It is split down the middle by the River Danube, with the residential and hilly Buda on the west side, and the commercial, flat Pest on the east side of it. Budapest has 23 districts (kerület in Hungarian), which are numbered clockwise in widening circles (like Paris' arrondissements). It is easy to find the district from the address of a location, as the two middle digits of the four number zip code indicate it (for example: zip code 1056 means 5th district).
I created this district guide to help you choose where to stay in Budapest depending on the atmosphere and your travel style.

DISTRICT I.: romantic / first time visit
this is the castle district

DISTRICTS II., III., OR XII.: to enjoy greenery and relax
these are all on the hilly Buda side (Rózsadomb, Óbuda, Svábhegy)

DISTRICT V.: the downtown, ideal for business or for families with smaller kids
the city centre (Belváros)

DISTRICT VI.: on a budget and/or to enjoy the culture of the city
this are is called Terézváros

DISTRICT VII.: the Jewish neighborhood but also has great nightlife
this are is called Erzsébetváros

DISTRICTS VIII. AND IX.: cool but perhaps rough neighborhoods
they are called Józsefváros and Ferencváros

DISTRICTS IV. AND X.: they are mainly lower middle class residential and industrial districts
they are called Újpest and Kőbánya

DISTRICTS XI., XIII., AND XIV.: primarily upper middle class residential
district XI. is called Újbuda (on the Buda side), XIII. is Újlipótváros and XIV. is Zugló.

ALL OTHER DISTRICTS (XV., XVI., XVII., XVIII., XIX., XX., XXI., XXII., XXIII.) are further out from the city

I am a proud local Hungarian living in Budapest.
I was born and have lived in this beautiful city, Budapest for decades. I am in love with it - and not because I haven’t seen anything else. I am a seasoned traveller and I have also spent many years living abroad. However, my heart (and wife, and jobs and goulash soup and lángos) have pulled me back to my birth town. I love this city and know it inside out.
If you are fed up with the formal (and often wrong) recommendations of guide books, then follow my channel to find advice from a real local. I give you practical tips, show you cool spots and help you avoid tourist traps.

I live and love Budapest, I want to share my tips with you.

Carl Lutz Rakpart | District 13 | Angyalföld - Budapest, Hungary | RDX_Aerials | 4K Drone Footage

Named after Carl Lutz, the Swiss diplomat who saved half the Jewish population of Budapest during World War 2, the riverside views of district XIII. has truly changed over the last 2 decades, old communist residential complexes are now neighbours with modern office buildings for major corporations. Sit back and enjoy the relaxing flight!

Captured using DJI Mavic 3 Pro, in 4K 60fps and edited in Final Cut Pro X.

New Leopold Town - Budapest [4k Ultra HD 60fps ]

Újlipótváros New Leopold Town is a neighborhood in the 13th district of Budapest, Hungary.

Previously an industrial area, it was rebuilt as a residential district from the late 1920s. Almost all of the buildings were built between 1927 and 1944. This makes Újlipótváros quite different from the other parts of the inner city, which were mainly built before World War I, mostly in the last three decades of the nineteenth century.

Some of the building stock and the infrastructure has been renovated in the last fifteen years. The district has quite serious problems with parking and over-crowdedness, especially in the narrower streets of its inner parts.
