Let's Travel | Brockville | Ontario | Canada
Brockville, formerly Elizabethtown, is a city in Eastern Ontario, Canada, in the Thousand Islands region. Although it is the seat of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, it is politically independent of the county. It is included with Leeds and Grenville for census purposes only.
Known as the City of the 1000 Islands, Brockville is located on the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River, about halfway between Kingston to the west and Cornwall to the east. It is 115 km (71 mi) south of the national capital Ottawa. Brockville faces the village of Morristown, New York, on the south side of the river.
Brockville Tunnel is the oldest railway tunnel in Canada that actually exists under the downtown core of Brockville, Ontario, the tranquil community located on the shores of the St Lawrence River at the eastern edge of The Thousand Islands.
The tunnel was built between 1854 and 1860 to allow the fledging Brockville and Ottawa Railway to connect the Brockville industrial waterfront area to the outlying areas lying between St Lawrence and Ottawa rivers.

Brockville, Ontario Road Trip: Blockhouse Island, Brockville Railway Tunnel, Downtown Exploration
Welcome to my Channel -- Walking Attractions
Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Brockville, Ontario, and I must say that I was thoroughly impressed with this charming small city. Situated on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, Brockville is a popular destination for tourists looking for a day trip from Ottawa or Kingston. As soon as I arrived, I could see why. The city is picturesque with its beautiful scenery along the river, and there are plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained.
One of my favorite activities in Brockville was strolling along Blockhouse Island. This island is located at the eastern edge of the famous 1000 Islands and offers stunning views of the St. Lawrence River. It's always exciting to watch ships coming and going, such as cruise and cargo vessels traveling on the international Seaway shipping channel. The island also has a Golden Hawk Sabre Jet and a women's memorial. The marina is home to many tall ships, which are an amazing tourist attraction. The wind from the river is refreshing, and the views are fantastic.
As I walked around the island, taking in the stunning views of the St. Lawrence River, I couldn't help but think about the island's dark past. I learned that Blockhouse Island was formerly known as Hospital Island, where sheds were erected to house emigrants who were victims of cholera in the great epidemic of 1832. Many people, including Doctor Robert Gilmour, lost their lives on this island during the epidemic. During the Rebellion of 1837–38, a Blockhouse was erected here for the defense of Brockville, but unfortunately, it was destroyed by fire in 1860.
After spending some time at Blockhouse Island, I headed to the Brockville Railway Tunnel. I was excited to explore Canada's first railway tunnel, which was completed in 1860 for the Brockville and Ottawa Railway and later owned by the CP Railway until being acquired by the City of Brockville in 1983. As I walked through the tunnel, I was amazed by the restoration work that has been done to transform this historic site into a modern tourist attraction. The paved concrete floor, music program, and state-of-the-art energy-efficient lighting make the tunnel a remarkable example of Canada's pre-Confederation industrial heritage.
Next on my list was the Brockville Farmers' Market. I had heard so much about this market, which has become one of the oldest continuous markets in Ontario. Since it first opened almost 178 years ago, this quaint market has played an integral role in the development of Brockville's rich cultural history. As I strolled through the market, I was struck by the friendly atmosphere and the welcoming vendors who sold everything from fresh produce to artisanal crafts.
After exploring the historical sites and enjoying the local produce, I decided to check out downtown Brockville for some shopping and dining. I was not disappointed - the downtown area had many charming shops and restaurants. I had the pleasure of visiting some unique boutiques and trying out some delicious local cuisine.
In conclusion, my trip to Brockville, Ontario, was a memorable experience. The city's charm, beautiful scenery, and historical sites left a lasting impression on me. I would highly recommend this destination to anyone looking for a day trip from Ottawa or Kingston or to nature lovers looking for a getaway. Brockville is definitely worth a visit.

ONTARIO LIVING ... YOU GOTTA VISIT BROCKVILLE, ONTARIO 🇨🇦
Today we are visiting Brockville, Ontario, Canada....thanks for joining us.
Brockville is a small city, between Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. It is located on the north shore of the great St. Lawrence River. Directly across the river is the village of Morristown, NY.
Brockville has a lot of noteworthy history, but in modern times it is known for Canada's first railroad tunnel, which is a tourist attraction that should not be missed. It also has a beautiful main street and waterfront.
We highly recommend Brockville as a tourist destination for a full day and even several days. Plenty to see, great, do, and places to eat.
