Whether you jet over to immerse yourself in The Gambia’s world-class birdwatching, its golden sandy beaches or its exhilarating culture and vibrant atmosphere, there’s always something ready to captivate holidaymakers visiting The Gambia for the first time. While it may be mainland Africa’s smallest country, The Gambia is big on attractions and appeal, promising to be one of most exciting and diverse destinations in the continent. One of my favourite corners of the continent is West Africa. The Gambia, in particular, is a popular holiday destination with the British thanks to its golden sandy beaches, year-round hot weather, colourful culture and friendly English speaking locals. It’s in the same time zone as we are too which is handy! For many years, I worked for a tour operator to West Africa, visiting regularly for over a decade, both for work and on holiday. While many tourists rarely leave the beach or the poolside, there are no end of things to do in The Gambia, even on a tight budget. It’s a fabulous place to explore.in this video, we are looking into Top 10 Places To Visit in The Gambia!

Bakau and Paradise beaches, Brikama craftmarket - Gambia
We made trips to different beaches on the different days. Bakau is the nortmost resort of the South side, and was peaceful beach with kingfisher birds and smaller waves..
Paradise Beach is in south and has some restaurants and beautiful white sand beach, and lots of local fishing boats.
Brikama craftmarket
Home to some of the most talented wood carvers in the country, this craft market offers a wonderful selection of woodcarvings and souvenirs that can be bought at a reasonable price.

Brikama Craft Market, GAMBIA
Do you love exploring craft markets when abroad? The Brikama market which I have visited in October last year was established in 1975. There are 57 craft stalls though there are over 200 members who make and sell their artwork and other products in the nearby area. Despite the hard work of craft men, the business at the market is declining mainly due to the high cost of transportation for the larger souvenirs.

Must do in Gambia! 2 day tour ✈ 2020
The two-day Gambia trip of African Adventure tours brought us al among the Gambia river. Our tour guide brought us to spectacular places as a local market in Farafeni, the stone circles dating 2000 years back, a school, an amazing boat trip where we saw hippos, chimpanzees and many more beautiful wildlife creatures.
After a complete day, including breakfast, lunch and dinner, it was time to sleep in a basic but cosy lodge next to the Gambia river.
After breakfast, we visited Georgetown's slave house. On our way to the next stop, we saw hundreds of Bavarians and a hornbill (neushoornvogel) and a Cameleon on the road.
The lunch was more than delicious and cooked by a local lady. After visiting a real local Gambian family, our last stop was the Brikama craft market.
Two unforgettable days of exploring the Gambia!

Falling In Love In Banjul, Gambia 🇬🇲 You Won't Believe This! #Gambia,Africa Ep.6
Banjul is the capital city of the Gambia, a small West African country bordered by Senegal. The city sits on an island where the Gambia River meets the Atlantic Ocean. Its colonial buildings include the National Museum, dedicated to Gambian culture and history. Vendors at the lively Albert Market sell colorful textiles and local produce. The city's main entrance is marked by the immense, columned Arch 22 gateway.

About Gambia: The Gambia, officially the Republic of The Gambia, is a country in West Africa. It is the smallest country within mainland Africa and is surrounded by Senegal, except for its western coast on the Atlantic Ocean. The Gambia is situated on both sides of the lower reaches of the Gambia River, the nations namesake, which flows through the centre of the Gambia and empties into the Atlantic Ocean. It has an area of 10,689 square kilometres. Banjul is the Gambian capital and the countrys largest metropolitan area. The largest cities are Serekunda and Brikama. The Gambia shares historical roots with many other West African nations in the slave trade, which was the key factor in the placing and keeping of a colony on the Gambia River, first by the Portuguese, during which era it was known as A Gâmbia. Later, on 25 May 1765, the Gambia was made a part of the British Empire when the government formally assumed control, establishing the Gambia Colony and Protectorate. In 1965, the Gambia gained independence under the leadership of Dawda Jawara, who ruled until Yahya Jammeh seized power in a bloodless 1994 coup. Adama Barrow became the Gambias third president in January 2017, after defeating Jammeh in the December 2016 elections. Jammeh initially accepted the results, then refused to accept them, which triggered a constitutional crisis and military intervention by the Economic Community of West African States, resulting in his exile. Serekunda (proper: Sayerr Kunda or Sere Kunda, Arabic: سيريكوندا, sometimes spelled Serrekunda) is the largest urban centre in The Gambia. It is situated close to the Atlantic coast, 13 km (8 mi) south-west of the capital, Banjul, and is formed of nine villages which have grown together into a larger urban area. Top 5 Gambia Cities By Population
The Gambia, located in West Africa, has a fascinating history that encompasses ancient kingdoms, European colonization, and the struggle for independence. Here is an overview of The Gambia's history:
Ancient and Precolonial Era: The Gambia region has been inhabited for thousands of years. It was home to various ethnic groups, including the Mandinka, Wolof, Fula, and Jola. These groups established powerful kingdoms, engaged in trade, and developed rich cultural traditions.
European Exploration and Colonization: European contact with The Gambia began in the 15th century when Portuguese explorers arrived in search of trade routes. Later, the British gained control over the region through treaties and established the colony of British Gambia in 1888.
Colonial Rule: During the colonial period, The Gambia served as a trading hub for the British Empire. Cash crops such as peanuts and groundnuts were cultivated, and infrastructure was developed, including ports, roads, and schools. The Gambia was part of the British West Africa Settlements until it gained self-rule in 1963.
Independence and Post-Independence Era: The Gambia achieved independence from Britain on February 18, 1965. It initially remained a constitutional monarchy within the Commonwealth before becoming a republic in 1970. Dawda Jawara served as the country's first president, leading The Gambia for over two decades.
Political Challenges and Democratic Transition: The Gambia faced political challenges in the following years, including a military coup in 1994 led by Yahya Jammeh. Jammeh ruled for over two decades until his defeat in the 2016 presidential elections, which marked a peaceful transition of power.
Truth, Reconciliation, and Democratic Progress: In recent years, The Gambia has undergone significant democratic reforms and transitional justice initiatives. The Truth, Reconciliation, and Reparations Commission (TRRC) was established to address past human rights abuses, promote healing, and ensure accountability.
Tourism and Economic Development: The Gambia is known for its vibrant tourism industry, with visitors attracted to its beautiful beaches, wildlife, and cultural heritage. The government has also focused on economic diversification, agriculture, and infrastructural development to drive economic growth and improve the livelihoods of its people.
The Gambia's history reflects its resilience, cultural diversity, and the aspirations of its people for self-governance and development. Today, the country continues to strive for political stability, sustainable development, and the promotion of human rights and democracy.

The last of the Gambia chronicles. I love Africa and I can't wait to travel to Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Cape Town and anywhere else that comes onto my radar. Travelling to round the world destination is one of my passions and each time I get on a airplane and transport myself into a new culture I learn new things, gain new perspectives and grow as a person. You cannot beat it.
In this video I took a whistle stop tour of the main tourist spots in Gambia and you will see me at the crocodile pool in Bakau, driving through Serrakunda, in the Abuko Nature Reserve taking pics of the monkeys and on Paradise Beach in Sanyang. I aslo went to Brikama and bought too many beautiful carvings for myself and friends. The artwork there is so amazing and I love it. This time I also fell for the vibrant fabrics and even had an outfit made which I forgot to include the footage, but there are some pics on my instagram.
Thanks for watching, I appreciate youuuuuuu!!!
