Bridgewater Bay, Blairgowire, Victoria, Australia. Traveling Lifestyle Adventures

Fantastic place to visit. Getting here for a swim in this sort of enclosed space is great. What's not to love about nature? One of the funnest places to explore.

BRIDGEWATER BAY & BEACH

The beautiful and secluded Cape Bridgewater was once a volcanic island. It is a pleasant 20-minute drive from Portland via Otway Street. The scenery en route to the Cape offers a glimpse back in time, with stone ruins in paddocks a testament to the area’s 1840s farming settlement. The round trip via Bridgewater Lakes and Cashmore Road is approximately 50kms.

BRIDGEWATER BAY & BEACH
This windswept bay comprises 4 kms of wide sandy beach and is the hub of the town. Facilities include a beachside cafe, public toilets and great picnic spots. Bridgewater Bay Beach is patrolled by the local surf lifesaving club from the first week in December through until Easter on weekends and public holidays between 10am and 5pm.

Must Do Seals by Sea Tour, Cape Bridgewater, Victoria.

Cape Bridgewater, near Portland Victoria, is the only mainland breeding colony of seals in Australia, home to over 2000 Australian and Long Nosed Fur Seals and is without a doubt one of the most popular natural attractions in the South West.
Seals by Sea Tours is a family owned and operated venture founded in 1998 by Jo Austin and his family. The seal tour begins with a short walk along the beautiful Great South West Walk, to an iconic boat shed where the tour boats await. An exhilarating three-minute-journey across the sea follows, delivering visitors to the striking seal colony, abundant in playful Australian and New Zealand fur seals.
Bookings are essential as departure times vary according to season and demand.

BRIDGEWATER BLOWHOLES & PETRIFIED FOREST

The Petrified Forest and Blowholes are easily accessible from the car park at the end of Blowholes Road, Cape Bridgewater.

Cape Bridgewater (Blowholes)

The blowholes are rock tunnels that have been etched out of the volcanic rock by the waves. During rough seas, they spout spray high into the air. Old Aboriginal middens can also be seen along the cliff tops.

Cape Bridgewater (Petrified Forest)

The area is called the petrified forest from an early theory that advancing sand engulfed an ancient forest of coastal trees that once covered the sea cliff, petrifying them for all time.

Actually, the formation is a collection of hollow tubes of limestone called solution pipes, eroded by millions of years of rainfall. The process starts when water gathers in a shallow pan of sand and seeps downwards dissolving the limestone. The mineral-saturated water then cements the sand, forming hard, trunk-shaped pipes. Most pipes around Cape Bridgewater are one to three metres high, although some are as high as 20 metres.

On the way to the car park you pass 29 windmills which can be interesting for the kids. The windmills have 82m diameter blades. Both, the Petrified Forest and Blowholes are easily reached from the car park within a few minutes.

There are views of the steep cliffs and waves crashing below, although you need to be careful since the cliffs are unstable. From the kids' perspective, the blowholes would be more interesting provided the weather is fairly rough and big spouts are jetting into the air.

Portland Trip - TOP 10/10 must visit town in Victoria!

This winter school holiday, we ventured out to Portland, Victoria.
It is around 4.5 hrs from where we live!
But maybe around 3.5 hrs from Melbourne CBD.
This trip passes through fascinating regional towns as well e.g. Warrnambool, Port Fairy, Colac along the way which follows through the Great Ocean Road.

Portland has its own port obviously called Port of Portland which exports wood chips to countries like Japan, China, Korea to name a few. We were blessed with great weather and able to hop on the Portland historic tram - which is a must do activity for anyone who loves learning history and background of this city.

We stayed at a holiday park called NRMA Holiday Park and they have its own chicken coup and if the hen hatches, you can freely grab the egg(s).
Food restaurants are quite plenty, Woolworths (or Safeway) is in the town centre, no worries at all on food.

Overall, TOP 10/10 must visit town!
Hope you love the video!

Bendigo City Tour | A day trip from Melbourne via V/Line

This is a short film of Bendigo city tour from Melbourne via V line.

The regional city of Bendigo is in Central Victoria and is only a 150km drive north of Melbourne. Having a car is the best way to explore the city, but the train is an excellent option for a day trip.

Bendigo | The Golden City
Bendigo is a major regional city and the fourth largest city in the state of Victoria. The greater city has a population of over 100,000 people. It is located close to the geographical Centre of Victoria, so it is relatively easy to visit from anywhere in the state or to incorporate into a larger
road trip of this part of Australia.
Bendigo’s past centuries around gold. It was discovered here in the 1850s and was closely followed by a large influx of migrants for around the world. Within a year, it had transformed from a sheep station to a major settlement. Since 1851, a whopping 777 tones of gold has been removed from this area. In the 19th century, it was Australia’s highest producing gold.
Bendigo is known for its architectural heritage – the city centre is very pretty with beautiful late Victorian colonial style buildings plentiful. There are not just buildings, shops and restaurants, but lovely big parks and walking trails.
