Mussolini's Abandoned Palace in Tunisia - Villa Zodiac (Tunisia Urbex)
Today we visit the agricultural town of Bou Argoub in Nabeul Governorate. Here, perched on top of a hill overlooking the A1 motorway, we find Mussolini's Palace - a rare modernist piece of architecture built by Italians in 1935. It was so extravagant that local people assumed it must have been built for Italian dictator Benito Mussolini. This is an urban legend, in fact it was built by the Garsia family, who were wealthy Italian farmers in the area. The structure was designed by Italian architect Ugo Chiarini, who was a prominent figure in Tunisia's colonial architectural scene. A fun afternoon of urban exploration!
