Borehamwood Walk: Town Centre【4K】
Located in the county of Hertfordshire, and around 12 miles northwest of central London, is the town of Borehamwood.
The existence of Borehamwood goes back to the 12th century or earlier. According to a written account from 1188, Pope Clement gave to the Abbey the wood of Boreham for the feeding of the swine. Historically it was part of the parish of Elstree (Elstree being the name of the neighbouring village immediately to its west).
From the 1920s onwards, Borehamwood and the neighbouring village of Elstree have become known for being home to several film studios, with many shots of its streets included in final cuts of 20th century British films. This earned it the nickname of 'British Hollywood'.
Borehamwood saw a significant increase in population following the Second World War. As part of a scheme to relocate Londoners whose homes had been destroyed in the Blitz, many new houses and shops were built in the town. Its frequent train services from Elstree and Borehamwood station to central London via the Midland Main Line have made it a popular choice for commuters working in the capital.
Many well-known movies were partially filmed at the former Associated British Studios on Shenley Road just east of the town centre. These include The Dam Busters (1955), Moby Dick (1956), Summer Holiday (1963), Dr Zhivago (1965)', 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), The Shining (1980), the first three Indiana Jones movies and the first three Star Wars movies. George Lucas helped save Elstree Studios from closure on two separate occasions: first in 1976 by choosing Elstree as a base for the production of Star Wars, and second in 1988 when he and Steven Spielberg acted as patrons to the Save Our Studios campaign.
Whilst most of the film studios of the industry's heyday have now closed, two still remain: Elstree Studios and the BBC Elstree Centre. Despite the names, both are located in Borehamwood. Many well-known TV programmes have been filmed here including Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, Big Brother and Strictly Come Dancing, to name a few. The Big Brother house was built on top of the studios' old underwater stage where scenes in The Dam Busters and Moby Dick were filmed.
Borehamwood is represented in sport by Boreham Wood Football Club. Founded in 1948, they play their home games at Meadow Park immediately to the north of Elstree Studios.

It is located in the council district of Hertsmere and is covered by two wards, Aldenham East and Aldenham West. It is located inside the M25 motorway.
Radlett lies in the valley of Tykes Water, a stream that runs north from Aldenham Reservoir to the River Colne. Now entirely surrounded by the Metropolitan Green Belt, it is seeing significant 'infill' development and pressure to relax the Green Belt restrictions.
Watling Street, which is the main road through Radlett, has a wide variety of local shops and restaurants, as well as some national chain stores, a Post Office inside the local Budgens supermarket, and the Radlett Centre with a 300-seat auditorium for various performances. Attached to the Radlett Centre is the local Public Library. There are three public houses in Radlett, the Cat and Fiddle, O'Sullivan's Bar and the Red Lion Hotel.
Radlett lies close to the M25 and M1 motorways and the A1 trunk road. There is a commuter rail service that connects Radlett railway station to south and central London including St. Pancras International. From Radlett there are also train services to London Gatwick and London Luton airports, whilst London Heathrow is a forty-minute drive away. Places to see in ( Bushey - UK )
Places to see in ( Bushey - UK )
Bushey is a town in the Hertsmere borough of Hertfordshire in the East of England. Bushey Heath is a large neighbourhood south east of Bushey on the boundary with the London Borough of Harrow reaching elevations of 165 metres above sea level. The first written record of Bushey is an account in the Domesday Book, which describes a small agricultural village named 'Bissei' (which later became 'Biss(h)e' and then 'Bisheye' during the 12th century).
Bushey Heath's story begins in the Napoleonic Wars during a large food shortage. To help solve the problem, the government awarded the waste land to the east of Bushey to Bushey landowners to be used as farming; the land was more generally known as Bushey Common. Whilst the original aim was to produce food, being close to a railway and up to 500 ft above sea level with beautiful and broad views made the area attractive for housing developers.
The 19th and 20th centuries marked the time of most change in Bushey, especially between 1860 and 1960. The population rose 28-fold within 200 years, from 856 in 1801, to just under 24,000 today. The expansion was for many reasons, one of the main ones being due to the boom in industry caused by the railway in the early 20th century. A result was that many new jobs were created in and around Watford, and in the early 1920s, Bushey's first council houses were built. More housing was later built for the service families working in defence organisations in Stanmore and Northwood. The expansion eventually died down because much of the land in and around Bushey was protected under the Metropolitan Green Belt after the Second World War.
Despite being close to London and having Watford on its doorstep Bushey retains the feeling of a small town and this is reinforced with events such as the Bushey Festival and quarter marathon which is held each July and the Horticultural Society's flower and produce show. Being located near several film studios at Elstree and Borehamwood, Bushey and Bushey Heath frequently feature as backdrops for many film and TV shows.
