Rubane to Bolama Island (Former Portuguese Capital) to Bissau

It was a brutally rough crossing to Bolama and then on to Bissau on small boats in the Atlantic. May I respectfully say that no American tour operator would EVER run a trip like this because of the liabilities?

Bolama Island? Please give me your opinion... And please don't forget to Share, Like and Subscribe! Thanks.

Capital of Guinea-Bissau

Bissau is the capital city of Guinea-Bissau, on the coast of West Africa. It's near the point where the Geba River meets the Atlantic Ocean. Bissau Velho, the old city center, is filled with decaying Portuguese colonial buildings.

Nearby, Fortaleza d’Amura is an old fort still used by the country's military. Up the road, the war-damaged former Presidential Palace has a neoclassical facade.

Guinea Bissau || Why You Should Visit It Right Now

In this video, we are going to give you 5 reasons why you should visit Guinea Bissau Right Now.

Many people confuse Guinea Bissau, that small country on the west coast of Africa, with others like Guinea Conakry, Equatorial Guinea, or New Guinea.

Guinea Bissau, which is listed 7th among the 15 least visited countries on earth, is one of the most amazing countries I have ever visited. This is a place where you can still experience the true and unspoiled Africa, far from large hotels and tourist resorts and among the local population.

Guinea Bissau is a small developing country on the West Africa coast, between Senegal and Guinea Conakry, and was until 1973 a Portuguese colony.

Guinea Bissau, unlike the frequent news associated with political instability, which gives it a negative image, is a safe country, with friendly and welcoming people. Anyway, as in any place, you should be careful to go to certain more isolated places, especially at night.

So, Why should you visit Guinea Bissau?

00:00 **Intro**
01:03 **Reason 1: Just because!**
02:30 **Reason 2: Guinea Bissau has a great archipelago off the coast.**
04:05 **Reason 3. Tourism equals money equals development.**
05:29 **Reason 4. The People and the food**
07:35 **Reason 5. Because it is an undeveloped and unspoiled country.**

In this video, we are going to give you 5 reasons why you should visit Guinea Bissau as soon as possible.

Saltinho (Guinea-Bissau)

Saltinho is about 2 hours drive from Bissau. This place is popular for hunting. People are coming from Europe for hunting in this area. We went there on June and just wanted to share with you the river flooded by water in the dry/rain season.

You Have To See These Fascinating Places in Guinea-Bissau ❤️ | Curiosity Juice | Country Tour #71

You will definitely would wish to travel to Guinea-Bissau after watching this video. From the desert ridges of Muslim Gabú in the east to the throbbing port sides of Bissau (the capital) in the west, this country’s got chimps and rolling savannah, rainforests, wending rivers, colonial architecture and more.

Cities
Bissau - capital
Bafatá - Bafata is a pleasant town with an interesting colonial centre, located on the Rio Gêba. Hometown of Bissau-Guinean patriot Amilcar Cabral. Ask around near the old market to visit his house.
Bissora - Bissora is a town in the region of Oio. The majority of people living in the Bissora sector belong to the Balanta ethnic group.
Bolama - capital of the country until 1941, has some magnificent examples of colonial architecture and has been suggested as a world heritage site.
Buba - End of the tarmac going to the south of Guinea-Bissau. The town is built along a tidal river, the Rio Grande de Buba. Decent hotel.
Bubaque - Largest town in the Bijagos archipelago, with hotels and harbor for boat trips to other islands.
Cacheu - Cacheu was once an important place for slave-trading, and there is still a little fort.
Catió-
Farim
Gabú - Bustling, friendly market town with a few nightclubs, bars and hotels.

Key Destinations
- Bijagos Islands - an archipelago of some twenty tropical, beautiful islands. On the island of Orango it is possible to see hippos, and there are many other possibilities of eco tourism on the unspoiled islands. On some islands there are even turtle nesting grounds. Many islands have French-owned fishing lodges.
- Varela - Just south of Cap Skirring, but on the Guinea-Bissau side of the border, it is a tour de force to get to Varela on a 50 km long bumpy dirt road from São Domingos - but it is all rewarded when you reach this little paradise, with a superb Italian-owned hotel, beautiful beaches and pine forests and a very relaxed atmosphere with almost no other tourists. You may contact the small hotel in Varela via their Facebook page: Aparthotel Chez Helene
- Boé Sector - The country's most South-Eastern corner is a mosaic of savannah, forest and farmland. Its remoteness has left the sector underdeveloped, but its Fular/Mandinka population is warm and welcoming. Primates constitute the majority of large mammals in the Boé, chiefly among them a healthy population (possibly 1000+) of chimpanzees. Although they are shy and not habituated to humans, there is a chance for ecotourists to spot humanity's closest relative. The Fonda Huuwa campsite in the main village Béli offers huts and meals at shoestring prices.

MAP OF GUINEA-BISSAU

greetings my friends. this is a map of Guinea Bissau. Guinea-Bissau is bordered by Senegal to the north and Guinea to the south and east, with the Atlantic Ocean to its west.

At 36,125 square kilometres , the country is larger in size than Taiwan or Belgium. The highest point is Monte Torin with an elevation of 262 metres. Its terrain is mostly low coastal plains with swamps of the Guinean mangroves rising to the Guinean forest-savanna mosaic in the east. Its monsoon-like rainy season alternates with periods of hot, dry harmattan winds blowing from the Sahara. The Bijagos Archipelago lies off of the mainland. The country is also home to two ecoregions: Guinean forest-savanna mosaic and Guinean mangroves.
Guinea-Bissau is warm all year round with mild temperature fluctuations; it averages 26.3 °C. The average rainfall for Bissau is 2,024 millimetres , although this is almost entirely accounted for during the rainy season which falls between June and September/October. From December through April, the country experiences drought. also, Guinea-Bissau is divided into eight regions and one autonomous sector. These, in turn, are subdivided into 37 Sectors. The regions are:

One of the most beautiful picnic spots to chill and relax with friends and family in Guinea Bissau. Located just 40 minutes drive from Bissau city , it is nested near natural creek lined with dense mangrove forest. One can enjoy good Local and Portuguese food . The resort has a beautiful relaxing ambience with lots of leisure activities for your enjoyment like infinity swimming or swimming in the creek in the demarked area and creek volley ball can be played in the back waters, which is a unique experience in itself. For the water sport loving people you can kayak around the creek or take speed boat ride or swim in the creek and embrace nature with sightings of mud crab , mud slider , cranes and various species of birds . I would rate Food as average.

Visit Luxurious Ponta Anchaca Rubane Island, Bissagos Archipelago

Ponta Anchaca Ecolodge on Rubane Island is drop-dead gorgeous with individual villas on stilts. Arriving here after days of mostly bare-bone accommodations with some moderate thrown in is a shock! Too bad the only access is a rough ocean voyage or opt for their small charter flights.

Of course, we arrived and left by boat. Wonderful resort frequented primarily by well-to-do locals and expats. Please don't forget to Share, Like and Subscribe! Thanks.
