Beautiful Surkhet is a tourist spot in Nepal’s Karnali region. Surkhet District, one of the ten districts of Karnali and also known as “The region of rivers and lush hills,” is located roughly 600 kilometers to the west of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The district is the longest in Nepal and has a total area of 2,488.64 square kilometers. Mountains, hills, and rivers are all around this primarily rural area.

The expansive, majestic Bulbule :
Bulbule Lake (Nepali: बुलबुले ताल) is a lake in Birendranagar, Karnali Province, Nepal. Bulbule lake owes its name to the way water bubbles from its spring, before it can be seen emanating from a series of stone spouts. Bulbule Lake is currently undergoing an expansion project; it will be expanded from 12,000 meters square to 28,500 meters square. The expansion will cost about 20 million Nepalese rupees. The Nepali song Surkhetma Bulbule Taal was inspired by this lake and parts of the song were filmed in the Bulbule Lake.
The lake has inspired a plethora of song, dating as far back as the 70s when Surkhet Bulbul Taal, Maya Mai Sani Hunale Chhutyo Maya Jaal was released via Radio Nepal. The reason is obvious. It’s attractive, it’s turquoise water a literal oasis amid the heat that Surkhet can experience during summer.
Kakre Bihar—the “other Lumbini”
Kakrebihar (Nepali: काक्रेबिहार) is a Shikhara Hindu and Buddhist temple in Birendranagar, Surkhet, Karnali Province. It was built in the 12th century and it spreads over 180 hectares of land. The temple was restored in September 2021. Kakre Bihar is the second-largest and oldest bihar in the country, after Lumbini. Enclosed by dense forests of saal and salla from all sides, it has an exotic location—a stark white monument in the wilderness of resplendent green. #kakrebiharsurkhet #karnali #surkhet
Deuti Bajai—the wish-granting goddess
Deauti Bajai (देउती वज्यै) is a Hindu temple in Birendranagar. Its history is closely associated with the people of Raji society; historically, only the people belonging to the Raji society used to pray in this temple. Nowadays, people from near and far come everyday to pray in this temple. It is a national heritage site, and the government and municipality are trying to develop and renovate this temple so as to attract more visitors. The shrine of Deuti Bajai was constructed by king Yash Malla.

Baraha Dada is located at Bheriganga, Chinchu, Surkhet. It takes about 1 hour to reach here on motorcycle from birendranagar. You can witness beautiful village vibes along the way. There are five different temples and a view tower to witness an amazing scenery of Bheriganga Nagarpalika. Not only this, there is a lake at the center of jungle with a island on it and another hill station just above it to witness the astonishing beauty at a different angle. Surkhet is the one of the ten districts of Karnali located about 600 kilometres (373 mi) west of the national capital Kathmandu. The district's area is 2,489 square kilometres (961 sq mi). It had 288,527 population in 2001 and 350,804 in 2011 which male comprised 169,461 and female 181,381. Karnali Pradesh (Nepali: कर्णाली प्रदेश) is one of the seven federal provinces of Nepal formed by the new constitution which was adopted on 20 September 2015. The total area of the province is 27,984 square kilometres (10,805 sq mi), making it the largest province in Nepal. According to the 2011 Nepal census, the population of the province was 1,570,418, making it the least populous province in Nepal. It borders the Tibet Autonomous Region of China to the north, Gandaki Pradesh to the east, Sudurpashchim Pradesh to the west, and Province No. 5 to the south. Birendranagar with a population of 47,914 is both the province's capital and largest city
Karnali is an old civilization of Nepal and it is connected with Karnali River The archaeological sites found in Jumla, Surkhet and Dailekh refers that this area was part of Khasa kingdom which was established during 11th century. The capital of the Khas Kingdom was Sinja. The kingdom was expanded to a great extent in 13th and 14th century. This kingdom was expanded to Garhwal in the west, Mansarowar and Guge regions of Tibet in the north, Gorkha-Nuwakot regions in the east and with Kapilvastu with large areas Terai in the South. After late 14th century the Khas empire collapsed and divided into Baise Rajya (22 principalities) in Karnali-Bheri region.
Before unification of modern Nepal, the part of Karnali (from Karnali River to Bheri River) was an Sanghiya Baise Rajya (United 22 principalities state). The Baise were sovereign, but intermittently allied among themselves until they were annexed during the unification of modern Nepal from 1744 to 1810.
