The BEST Thing While Traveling, Kurdistan Turkey // Overland Series Ep. 10
One reason why we travel is to meet people on the road, in Kurdistan, Turkey we were lucky to meet locals and other travelers to listen to their stories.
We are driving from Mt Nemrut through the southeast of Turkey, greenfields, and dry grasslands chase each other as we make our way through Turkish Kurdistan. The high plateau is home to the biggest minority in the country, the Kurds. the Kurds are traditional nomads and live from their herds of sheep, goats, and cows. Most of the kids grow up learning the Kurdish language from their parents, cause the Kurdish language and traditions are banned and get not taught in school. We experienced the Kurdish community as one of the warmest and most welcoming people that we met.
On our way east we went through Diyarbakir, Bingöl, Erzurum, and Kars before we crossed the Turkish Georgian border north of Cildir Gölü. In Diyarbakir, we got invited by Mehmet and his friends and coworkers, for coffee and Baklava. Thank you so much for having us it was a pleasure to meet you guys. Mehmet is a professor at the University of Diyarbakir and a farmer, he and his team are growing wheat, corn, rice, lentils, and cotton. In the afternoon we drove to the region of Bingöl where we stayed in a colony of frogs for two days to edit a video.
On the way towards the border with Georgia, we bumped into Chris and his three daughters Jemanja, Sohalia and Yumi, traveling by bike through Europe and Central Asia towards southeast Asia. We cooked and spend the evening together, sharing stories around the fire.
The next day, we drove to Cildir Gölü where we spend two nights on the small island to finish the video and relax.

About our Chanel:
We, Kai & Irati from Germany and Spain, are currently on a full-time Overland journey to the East. We want to roughly follow the old Silk Road. 33 Er Şehitler Anıtı - Bingöl | Bingöl'de Ziyaret Edilecek Yerler | Bingol Martyrs Monument [K.DERE]
24 Mayıs 1993 tarihinde acemi birliklerini tamamlayıp usta birliklerine gitmek için yola çıkan ve aralarında öğretmenlerinde olduğu sivil ve silahsız 33 er, Bingöl-Elazığ Karayolu'nda bölücü terör örgütü PKK'lı teröristler tarafından pusuya düşürülerek şehit edildi.
Bingöl şehir merkezine 12 kilometre mesafede bulunan Anıttepe mevkiinde şehit edilen askerlerin anısına 33 Er Şehitler Anıtı yapılmıştır. 33 Er Şehitler Anıtı, 33 askerin temsili mezarı, her şehit için bir bayrak ve anıt mezardan oluşmaktadır.
Geçmişten günümüze kadar şehadet şerbeti içmiş bütün Vatan evlatlarının aziz ruhları şâd olsun. Şehitlerimizi rahmetle minnetle yâd ediyor, dualarla anıyoruz.
Sizleri toprağa değil yüreğimize gömdük....
