BIBBIENA, AREZZO, ITALY (1 of 3)

Places to see in ( Mantova - Italy ) Teatro Bibiena
The Teatro Bibiena di Mantova was made by Antonio Bibiena in 1767-1769 and decorated in 1773-1775 with a facade of Piermarini designed by Paolo Pozzo. Constructed for the Royal Virgilian Academy of Science and Arts (the Accademia Virgiliana), the theatre in Mantua was designed in late Baroque or early Rococo style by Antonio Galli Bibiena and erected between 1767 and 1769. With a bell-shaped floorplan and four rows of boxes, it followed the new style of theatres then in vogue. It was intended to host both theatre productions and concerts, and scientific discourses and conventions. Bibiena also provided the monochrome frescoes in the interior. The theatre is now considered to be his most important work.
It was opened officially on 3 December 1769. A few weeks later, on 16 January 1770, thirteen-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart played a concert here, with resounding success. His father, Leopold Mozart, wrote about the theatre: In all my life, I have never seen anything more beautiful of its kind.
In 1773, Giuseppe Piermarini, who constructed the neighbouring palazzo for the Accademia Virgiliana, designed and built the façade of the theatre. Still used for its original purposes, it now can also be visited by tourists as one of Mantua's museums. The theatre is relatively small, with a scene 12,3 metres wide and 5,6 metres deep, and a maximum audience of 363 persons.

Places to see in ( Pavia - Italy ) Teatro Fraschini
Places to see in ( Pavia - Italy ) Teatro Fraschini
The Teatro Fraschini is the only great theater in Pavia . Inaugurated in 1773 , it is in use for several theatrical performances. The Teatro dei Quattro Nobili Cavalieri - the original name of Fraschini - was designed to counteract the whims of the noble Giacomo Omodei, the only owner of a theater in Pavia, a gentleman accustomed to imposing his privileges to the public, forced to submit to useless impositions, as waiting for the show to begin until it arrives.
United in 1772 in the Society of the Knights, four nobles (the Count Francesco Gamberana Beccarla, the Marquis Pio Bellisomi, the Marquis Luigi Bellingeri Provera and the Count Giuseppe de 'Giorgi Vistarino) who shared the administration and the direction of the theater, entrusted the project to Antonio Galli da Bibbiena , representative of an ancient and prestigious family of scenographers-architects. The Four Horsemen Theater inaugurated its first season in 1773, in the presence of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria . The theater was solemnly inaugurated on 24 May 1773 with the opera Il Demetrio , composed by the Czech composer Josef Mysliveček on verses by Pietro Metastasio .
After a century, however, due to excessive expenses and low revenues, the Company risked bankruptcy and consequently closed the theater. To avoid this, in 1869 the Municipality of Pavia also entered the material property of the building, which would soon be renamed Fraschini, in honor of the tenor of Pavia Gaetano Fraschini . Symbol of culture and social aggregation in Pavia, the Teatro Fraschini since 1869 is the municipal space dedicated to the production and use of the city's dramatic and musical art. The Theater, for its architectural and artistic value, is one of the most prestigious city monuments. The Fraschini theater obtained the recognition of the Teatro di Tradizione in November 2003 with the decree of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities .
The Fraschini is an Italian theater ; the great hall of the theater is almost in the shape of a horseshoe composed of 409 seats, according to the taste prevailing in the eighteenth century; is the artistic example of the prospective research of the Baroque . The plan of the room is a bell with a sound box (optimal solution for acoustics) obtained from a gallery that can not be used under the stalls. On top of an ashlar-like ground portico of the Tuscan type, three tiers of boxes (doric capitals, composite jonico and attic) are developed, as well as two higher orders (fourth order in the gallery and fifth in the gallery). The large wooden ceiling had a fine decoration by A. Savoia, later rebuilt by Bignami. The two large statues on either side of the proscenium, by M. Forabosco, represent Music and Poetry, respectively. At the second order there is an oven still visible and preserved (the theatrical life of the nobles crossed the limit of attending the shows, and extended to entertainment with dinners and social games in the stages of properties and back room lounges).
Miraculously remained intact in the structure since its origins, the Theater risked a series of substantial changes that would have distorted the harmony and style: as for example the project of Ing. Coliva di Bologna (1904) which involved the construction of two tunnels, in addition to raising a roof to expand the capacity. In the twentieth century the interventions concerned the main hall, the hall of the reduced, the expansion of the stage, new electrical systems. The most substantial restoration (which affected the entire building) was implemented after closure in 1985; in 1994 the work on the project and direction of the Pica Ciamarra Associati studio was completed, the theater was finally reopened.

BIBBIENA E SANTUARIO DELLA VERNA
Bibbiena (Arezzo) - Borghi d'Italia (TV2000)
Buona visione!

Siena, in the heart of Tuscany, is one of Italy's most popular destinations, a great medieval landmark to explore.
It's both a historic site and a vibrant modern city with excellent shopping, many fine restaurants, and beautiful pedestrian lanes throughout town.
We'll show you the busy main streets, always active with lots of people, and take you to those out-of-the-way little lanes, into the quiet residential neighborhoods.
The main piazza, called il Campo, and the Cathedral, called the Duomo, are two of the most important attractions that we will explore in detail.
Siena is so well-preserved that UNESCO has designated the entire old town as a World Heritage Site, not just one building or neighborhood, but all of the old town.
UNESCO describes Siena as an outstanding medieval city that has preserved its character and quality to a remarkable degree. It's a rare example of a medieval historic town of this size. The original urban form of the city, with its 15th century street plan, has been retained along with the Gothic design of its public buildings, palaces and tower houses, which remain unchanged.
Siena is a very livable city. It's built to a human scale, covering about a square kilometer, which makes it small enough that you can easily walk from one end of town to the other in a single day and see almost all of the sites in between. There's an endless variety of interesting things to see along your way.
Siena is a small city, but crisscrossed by dozens of little lanes that provide many miles of picturesque strolling opportunities for the ambitious trekker.
Siena is divided in three districts corresponding to the three ridges it sits on, North, West and East, with the Campo in the middle, the main piazza.
3:01 Main Lane
At the north end of the main shopping lane, via Banchi di Sopra, there is a pretty little square, Piazza Salimbeni, with Europe's oldest bank founded in 1472. This main shopping street is worth walking from one end to the other, perhaps stopping for a bite at one of the attractive little restaurants along the way. And narrow side alleys will attract you with their charms.
Escape the crowds by ducking into the side alleys, as we will be showing you here.
5:32
In the middle of it all is the Campo, the great piazza of Siena. Nearly 500 feet wide and surrounded by shops, restaurants, and the towering Palazzo Publico, this is the very heart of town. It's a great place to have an outdoor meal at one of the many sidewalk restaurants that are around it. You will find the experience of eating an evening meal at twilight, sunset on the Campo, is going to be one of the highlights of your trip,
12:30
Now let's take a walk in all those little back streets of town that are so wonderful, starting on the lower west side.
You'll find that when you get off the beaten track, these little lanes are a lot more interesting. Get away from other tourists and you'll start to feel like a local.
We're going to take you walking off the grid, further away from the tourist areas, further away from views and landmarks and famous churches, and just into this lovely, peaceful, residential neighborhood. There are a few shops, there are certainly always restaurants and cafés, mostly catering to the locals who live nearby.

We continue through the little side lanes and down to the Piazza Mercato. This place was the ancient market square which still today has an outdoor produce market several times a week. This Mercato is a lovely nook of the city, just two blocks south of the Campo, the main busy square, and yet 95% of the visitors never get here.
20:47
We continue walking on other nearby lanes, especially Gilio and Rossi, and various alleys that will lead us there and take us around.
For those travelers who love to get away from the shops and stroll through quiet residential alleys, Siena offers many more possibilities.
These little byways are your gateway to enter the authentic side of Siena.
22:48 The Duomo Cathedral
The great cathedral of Siena is the Duomo, just a few minutes’ walk from the Campo. It is one of the world's most beautiful and intriguing churches. It's a must-see on your visit, loaded with astonishing architecture, sculpture and paintings. More than just a religious structure of the Duomo is the economic symbol of wealth, international trade and cultural influences.
27:47 How to reach Siena
Getting from Florence to Siena is very convenient by taking the SITA bus. Their bus station is right in the heart of Florence, across the street from the main Florence train station.

I visited Raggiolo a couple of weeks ago, and I got why it is one of the most beautiful village of Italy.

History
Medieval Origins: Raggiolo has medieval origins and is part of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy network. The village is known for its traditional architecture and charming narrow streets.
Traditional Economy: Historically, Raggiolo’s economy was based on sheep farming and chestnut cultivation, activities that have left evident traces in the landscape and local culture.
Main Attractions
Historic Center: Walking through Raggiolo's historic center allows you to admire stone houses, cobbled streets, and panoramic views of the valley.
Ecomuseum of Casentino: Raggiolo hosts a section of the Casentino Ecomuseum, which documents the history, traditions, and culture of the area.
Church of San Michele Arcangelo: This parish church is an example of local religious architecture and houses noteworthy artworks.
Nature and Hiking
Trails and Trekking: Raggiolo is an ideal starting point for numerous hikes in the surrounding woods, offering breathtaking views and the opportunity to immerse oneself in nature.
Casentino Forests: The village is near the Casentino Forests National Park, Monte Falterona, and Campigna, one of the most important protected areas in the Apennines.
Events and Traditions
Chestnut Festival: Every autumn, Raggiolo celebrates the Chestnut Festival, an event that highlights one of the area's typical products, with tastings, markets, and traditional activities.
Culture and Folklore: The village keeps many cultural and folkloric traditions alive, celebrated throughout the year with local events.
