The Devil's Bridge | Bulgaria
I heard about this bridge some time ago and decided that during our stay in Bulgaria this June 2019 ...
Enjoy the flight and find below some more information about this old arch bridge
The 'Dyavolski most' is an arch bridge over the Arda River situated in a narrow gorge. It is located 10 km (6.2 mi) from the Bulgarian town of Ardino in the Rhodope Mountains and is part of the ancient road connecting the lowlands of Thrace with the north Aegean Sea coast.
Dyavolski most was rebuilt between 1515 and 1518 by the Bulgarian Master Dimitar under the Ottoman occupation of Bulgaria. The legend has it, the bridge was built by the Romans to link the Aegean Sea and the region of Thrace in Bulgaria. The bridge, the largest and best known of its kind in the Rhodopes, is 56 m long and has three arches, but also features holes with small semicircular arches to read water level. The Dyavolski most has a width of 3.5 m and its main arch is 11.50 m high. A stone parapet, 12 cm in height, is preserved on the sides, and breakwaters are placed opposite the stream.
For the legend, it is said that you can see the devil's head when tilting your head and looking at the reflection of the bridge in the water on a sunny day ...

Danube crossing, Oryahovo, Vratsa Province, Bulgaria, Europe
Oryahovo is a port city in northwestern Bulgaria, part of Vratsa Province. It is located in a hilly country on the right bank of the Danube, just east of the mouth of the river Ogosta, a few more kilometres downstream from where the Jiu flows into the Danube on Romanian territory. The town is known for the ferry service that connects it to the Romanian town of Bechet across the river. There are also plans by local private companies for a bridge across the Danube. As of December 2009, Oryahovo has a population of 5,400 inhabitants. The town's name has evolved through the course of history, with names such as Vrhov, Orezov, Oreov and Rahovo being mentioned in documents until the current one was officially established in 1886. The area around Oryahovo has been inhabited since ancient times, as archaeological research has proven with findings from the early Neolithic to the Late Middle Ages. A fortress called Kamaka is located 1 km east from Oryahovo, which existed from the 9th to the 14th century. In 1396, the city, already controlled by the Ottoman Turks, was sacked and its Ottoman civilian inhabitants killed while the prisoners massacred by French crusaders heading towards Nicopolis. The troops of Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund and Polish King Władysław III of Varna passed through the fortress during their unsuccessful crusades against the Ottoman Empire. During the Bulgarian National Revival, Oryahovo established itself as an economic and industrial centre and a key point for the supply of the Ottoman Empire with goods through the Danube. The town was mentioned as an important Danube port in a 1762 book printed in Brussels. The St George Church was opened in 1837, a secular school was built in the town in 1857 and a community centre followed in 1871. During the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78, the town was liberated on 21 November 1877 by Romanian forces after three-day fighting. A memorial by Italian sculptor Arnaldo Zocchi was erected in their honour. After the liberation, Oryahovo was known for the lively trade and rich cultural life. A provincial centre for three months, it became the centre of an okrag for 10 years (1877-1882 and 1884-1889). The architecture from the period is typically influenced by the one of Western Europe, with many such buildings being preserved today. A railway line linking Oryahovo with Cherven Bryag was constructed in 1926, a new church, the Assumption of Mary Church, opened in 1930, and a new building for the community centre was built in 1936 after a project by two Vidin architects. Some of the first industrial companies in the city, a spare parts factory and a metalworking company, were opened in 1961. Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, a short drive west of town, is also a major employer. The ferry Oryahovo - Beckett, crossing Danube, is one of the main transport corridors from Bulgaria to Romania. This is the most direct route from Sofia to Romania, Ukraine and other countries.

4K Scenic Drive Bulgaria: I3 Botevgrad - Pleven - from The Balkan Mountains to The Danubian Plains
We are in Bulgaria and explore the region north of The Balkan Mountains during the drive from Botevgrad to Pleven. Took the national road I3 also on the section Botevgrad - Yablanitsa, instead of the parallel A2 motorway, in order to get a better glimpse of how this area looks like. The weather was also perfect, so we had a great time discovering the nice green landscape and the traditional villages on the way. Enjoy!

Belene labour camp is located on Belene Island, between two branches of the Danube river. The Belene Prison is still operating as a penitentiary in the western part of the island, while the eastern part is a managed natural reserve. This camp operated officially from 1949 to 1959, though a break in deportations to Belene occurred from 1954 to 1956. In the video you will see the camp and listen to the people who are talking about that severe repression.

4K Town of Sredets from above
#DiscoverBulgaria #Sredets #aerial #Bulgaria #travel
Sredets (Bulgarian: Средец [srɛˈdɛt͡s]) is a town in Burgas Province in southeastern Bulgaria. It is located near Lake Mandrensko and the northern slopes of Strandzha. Sredets is the administrative centre of Sredets Municipality.
Sredets Point on Smith Island, Antarctica is named after the town.
The Roman fortress of Kaleto, located 2 km southwest of Sredets, was constructed at the end of the fifth and beginning of sixth century AD. Under the First Bulgarian Empire, the fortress became known as Potamukastel (Bulgarian: Потамукастел). Potamukastel was destroyed in the 11th century, but later rebuilt in the 12th century AD. The fortress was abandoned during Ottoman rule of Bulgaria, and the population of Potamukastel resettled at the location of the modern town and founded the village of Karabunar (Bulgarian: Карабунар) (black well in Turkish).
Karabunar is first mentioned in 1595, and is later found in Ottoman tax registers from 1676–1731. King Charles XII of Sweden is known to have stayed overnight in the village in 1713 en route to Constantinople and St. Sophronius of Vratsa worked as a teacher in Karabunar in 1792–1793. Russian Army data from 1827 mentions it as a purely Bulgarian village and it was visited by Vasil Levski in 1868. During the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–78, the area was occupied by the Russian 93rd Irkutsk Infantry Regiment on 16 February 1878. Karabunar became part of the autonomous province of Eastern Rumelia after the war and was annexed by the Principality of Bulgaria in 1885.
The village was renamed Sredets on 14 August 1934. Under Communist rule, the village was renamed Grudovo on 1 June 1950 in honour of Todor Grudov, a leader of the Communist September Uprising of 1923 and former mayor of the village. Grudovo was granted the status of town on 6 February 1960 and, following the fall of Communism in Bulgaria, on 23 January 1993, the town was renamed Sredets.

Stara Zagora is a town in Southern Bulgaria, one of the main economic centers in the country, as well as the main transport hub of Southern Bulgaria. It is the center of the homonymous municipality, district and regional association of municipalities RAW Trakia. The city is the sixth largest in the country. According to GRAO data, as of June 15, 2023, 135,252 people live in Stara Zagora at the current address and 154,649 people at the permanent address.[3] It forms the fifth largest urban agglomeration in Bulgaria with a population of 213,444 inhabitants (as of September 2007),[4] as well as the center of the 5th largest district in Bulgaria with a population as of December 31, 2016 of 321,377 people.[5] The stable economic development of the region gives it second place in GDP[6] per capita in the country.
The town is the oldest Bulgarian theater in Thrace - Drama Theater Geo Milev, the ancient Forum of Augusta Trayana, and 14 km from the city center is located the national balneological resort Stara Zagora Mineral Baths. In 1925 the second after Sofia opera in the country was opened – the South Bulgarian Opera (today the State Opera Stara Zagora), and in 1895 – the first European type urban park in Bulgaria – Ayazmoto. It is located 209 km on an asphalt road and 250 km on a railway from Sofia.
The city is divided into separate neighborhoods around its central part. Before World War II, neighborhoods of refugees from the Thracian and Macedonian Bulgarian lands were formed on the outskirts of the town. Most of the neighborhoods were built after World War II, after the region's rural population moved to the city to provide labor for the new industrial facilities. Several neighborhoods are annexed villages.
According to the cadastral map, the neighborhoods of the city are: Ayazmoto, Bedechka-Gradini, Vasil Levski, Vazrazhdane, Geo Milev, Golesh, Dabrava, Zheleznik, Zora, Industria, Kazanski, Kolyu Ganchev, Lozenets, Makedonski, Metropolitan Metodiy Kusev, Opalchenski, Samara 1, Samara 2, Samara 3, Slaveykov, Studentski grad, Tri spouts, Tri spouts-north, Tri spouts – south, Atyuren, APC and the Central part of Stara Zagora.

A Former Bulgarian Communist Leader's Residence 🇧🇬
Originally built as a spa in the 70s, the Bankya Residence was meant to be a vacation centre for tourists in Bulgaria. However, the leader of the Communist Party at the time; Mr. Todor Zhivkov ended up loving this place so much that he decided to live there! Today, the Bankya Residence is abandoned just like many other interesting buildings and structures in Europe. Let's check this place out together!
