A Short Walk Around Beckenham In Kent On A Lovely,Sunny Day....Enjoy

(c) 2018 An Unexplained Produktion
(c) 2018 Places To Live In The UK

Beckenham Town Centre from London, UK

Beckenham lies 1.7 miles (2.7 km) west of Bromley and 3.8 miles (6.1 km) north-east of Croydon.

The original village of Beckenham was a cluster of development in its own fields, surrounded by a series of manorial estates: Beckenham, Foxgrove, Kelsey and Langley Halls and Parks.

The River Ravensbourne flows northwards at the eastern side of the town, towards its confluence with the River Thames. A small stream, the River Beck (sometimes referred to as the Hawkesbrook), passes through the town before joining the Ravensbourne via the Pool River further north.

The area is part of an outcrop of London Clay and consists of many small hills.

This partly undulating route winds its way through an attractive park in South East London, partly on grounds formerly used for a public golf course. The park is bounded to the east by the Ravensbourne River, and the route initially follows parts of the well-waymarked Waterlink Way along it through open meadows. You then cross the railway line into the more undulating westerly part of the park, famous for its bluebell displays in season. Recent major investments in the landscaping of the park have spawned some interesting new features: A Mounded Garden, a Wet Woodland, a Wild Swimming Lake and the replanted Ornamental Garden with its beautiful

Beckenham Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located within Greater London, and around nine miles southeast of central London, is the town of Beckenham.

For many centuries Beckenham was a small village outside of London. It appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as 'Bacheham', meaning 'Beohha's homestead' (where Beohha is a Saxon personal name). The River Beck that runs under the town centre is believed to be a back formation, i.e. the river was named after the town rather than vice versa.

At the heart of Beckenham is St George's Church. This was originally built in the 12th century, but was completely rebuilt from 1885 to 1903. It suffered bomb damage during the Second World War when nearly all the stained glass was lost.

Another historical building in Beckenham is The George Inn. Dating from the mid 17th century, this was once a coaching inn. The stagecoach industry began in the early 17th century and ended in the 19th century with the coming of the railways. Passengers would make long distance journeys via horse-drawn carriages which would stop periodically at staging posts where the horses would be changed and the passengers would get refreshment and possibly an overnight stay. On certain routes, Beckenham was the first stop out of London, and the last stop before London.

In 1857 the railway arrived in Beckenham courtesy of the Mid-Kent Railway. Initially it was a terminus of a line to Lewisham. In the following year it became a junction station, hence Beckenham Junction. In the decades that followed, Beckenham experienced rapid growth as a result of its proximity to London and its convenience as a commuter base. In the year 2000 Tramlink began operation. This is a light rail tram network that operates across a stretch of South London. Opposite the railway station is Beckenham Junction Tram Stop, which is one of the eastern termini. Services west go as far as Wimbledon.

Historically, Beckenham was located within the county of Kent up until 1965 with the formation of the ceremonial county of Greater London. Concurrently, the London Borough of Bromley was created, to which Beckenham belongs. This is the most southeasterly of the 32 London boroughs, and both the biggest, and most sparse in terms of population density.

Famous people from Beckenham include comedian and presenter Bob Monkhouse and musician Peter Frampton. David Bowie lived in Beckenham from the late '60s to early '70s and is said to have launched his career in the Three Tuns pub (now a Zizzi restaurant, visible just after the 4-minute mark). In 1980 the band Haircut One Hundred formed in Beckenham.

This park used to be a golf course. Will it be a hole in one ?

#beckenhamplace #mansion #southlondon #londonsbestparks

Today is our first time in Beckenham Place Park and we've definitely been missing out. This park is a gem in south-east London with its gorgeous mansion, unique swimming lake, ancient pond and woodland, and utterly scrumptious food.

This episode contains the most interviews that we've done so far. Massive thank you to Lewin & the Homestead Cafe, Elaine & the Friends of Beckenham Place Park, Helen & the Beckenham Place Mansion, and Fi from Beckenham Park Community & Dogs. Also, a huge thank you to all the countless extras we hired to play everyone else in the park.

Places to see in ( Bromley - UK )

Bromley is a district of south east London, England, located 9.3 miles south east of Charing Cross. Bromley is the administrative headquarters of the London Borough of Bromley, and identified as a major metropolitan centre in the London Plan.

Bromley was historically a market town chartered since 1158 and an ancient parish in the county of Kent. Its location on a coaching route and the opening of a railway station in 1858 were key to its development, and the economic history of Bromley is underpinned by a shift from an agrarian village to commerce and retail. As part of the suburban growth of London in the 20th century, Bromley significantly increased in population and was incorporated as a municipal borough in 1903.

Bromley has developed into one of a handful of regionally significant commercial and retail districts outside central London and has formed part of Greater London since 1965. Most of Bromley including the town centre falls under the BR1 postcode district, whereas areas to the west towards Shortlands are part of BR2 instead.

Bromley is located 9.3 miles (15 km) south east of Charing Cross and is one of the major metropolitan centres identified in the London Plan. Bromley is a post town in the BR postcode area, consisting of BR1 and part of the BR2 postcode district. BR1 covers Bromley, Bickley, Sundridge Park and part of Downham; and the BR2 portion covers Hayes, Shortlands, Bickley and Bromley Common.

Know about Croydon , London | UK

Hey guys, in this post, I’ll tell you about my view on whether it’s worth to live in Croydon London as well as the main pros and cons of living in Croydon.
As you all know London is one of the world’s leading capitals, and it’s a stunning multicultural city that has everything you can think of (except for affordable housing). There is a saying that if you’re tired of London, that means, you’re tired of life. Well, it’s a joke, of course, but I think you get it – London has it all.
Croydon is a large town in South London, England and Part of the London Borough of Croydon.
Thanks to substantial investment and development in recent years, it has become one of the largest shopping districts outside of central London and has a well-developed night-time economy.
Commuting is a big part of life for many people living in Croydon and working in central London. First time buyers in particular are attracted to the area by good value properties and the rapid travel time of as little as 18 minutes into central London on rail services. The Overground from West Croydon provides easy connections through New Cross and up into east London.
For moving around more locally, Croydon is home to London’s only tram line. This connects central and west Croydon to Beckenham, New Addington and Wimbledon which carries almost 30 million people annually.

Which zone is Croydon?
Croydon is in Travel Zone 5, which puts it solidly into ‘London suburbia’ territory. However, there has been some call to make parts of Croydon into Zone 4, though this isn’t likely to happen.
Question is Is Croydon a safe place to live?

What is the crime rate in Croydon?
The overall crime rate in Croydon in 2021 was 82 crimes per 1,000 people. This is actually 5% lower than London’s overall average crime rate of 87 per 1,000 residents.

Pros:
Pretty phenomenal transport links, no matter how or where you wish to travel - easy access to Central London within 18 minutes;
a choice of parks and green spaces;
multiple shopping options, with big names like Sainsbury's, Curry's PC World and IKEA just minutes away.
Great for young population that like to enjoy the night.

Cons:
Traffic on the roads at peak hours can be terrible;
some antisocial behaviour in terms of littering and graffiti within the area in few areas.
house and rental prices are very high, as they are throughout London;
public schools have deteriorated within the last decade, though equally some of the very best private schools are also on your doorstep.

Verdict:
I live in Croydon and I love this place.

London's STRANGE Easternmost Point

What is the most easterly part of London? In this video we take a tour of the exact area, and explore the history of how London itself came to be the size it is. We also take a look at what constitutes the borders of London, how it ties in with Essex and other neighbouring counties, and finally what the surrounding settlements look like.

All footage is my own, and originates from my flagship channel, 4K Explorer, which you can check out here: --
