About the area:

Talat Phlu is a neighborhood located in the Thon Buri district of Bangkok, Thailand. Thon Buri is situated on the western banks of the Chao Phraya River, and Talat Phlu is one of its prominent areas. The neighborhood is known for its vibrant local atmosphere, traditional markets, and convenient transportation links.

Talat Phlu is primarily a residential area, with a mix of low-rise housing, townhouses, and apartment buildings. It offers a more relaxed and authentic Thai living experience compared to the bustling city center of Bangkok. The neighborhood has a strong sense of community, with local residents often engaging in small businesses and street food stalls.

One of the highlights of Talat Phlu is its namesake market, Talat Phlu Market. This traditional market is a popular destination for both locals and tourists. Here, you can find a wide array of fresh produce, meats, seafood, and other food items. The market also offers clothing, accessories, household items, and local handicrafts.

In addition to the market, Talat Phlu has numerous street food stalls and small restaurants where you can indulge in authentic Thai cuisine at affordable prices. From classic dishes like Pad Thai and Tom Yum to various grilled meats and seafood, the neighborhood offers a diverse range of culinary experiences.

Transportation in Talat Phlu is convenient due to its proximity to major roads and public transportation options. The Talat Phlu BTS Skytrain station provides easy access to other parts of Bangkok, making it convenient for both residents and visitors to explore the city.

Overall, Talat Phlu is a vibrant neighbourhood in Bangkok that offers a blend of local charm, traditional markets, and easy access to transportation. It is a great place to experience the authentic side of Bangkok and indulge in delicious Thai cuisine.

My name’s Gary and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past five plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this YouTube channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!

If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!

GRANDMA'S COOKING 🇹🇭 🇻🇳 Epic Thai-Viet Street Food Pancakes in BANGKOK - 5 Minute Fridays Ep.9

Today I headed to the Thai food market heaven that is Talat Phlu to try a Thai take on the Vietnamese Banh Xeo pancake called Kanom Bueng Yuan.

This Kanom Bueng Yuan stall is run by a couple that must be in their 80's but still come out to smash out banh xeo after banh xeo night after night. It was a pleasure seeing this epic Grandma in action as she expertly navigated here two woks over hot coals on continuous rotation.

Talat Phlu Market has some of the best street food in Bangkok and for me is a must visit for any self respecting Thai food lover visiting Bangkok!

I want to help you find authentic Thai street food wherever you are staying in Bangkok by giving you these little DIY food tours in every area of the city. Bangkok's Chinatown can be a bit overwhelming if it's your first time in Bangkok as it's so big, so I thought I'd do some videos to help break it down into sections so you can get some awesome street food wherever you go.

Here's a link with directions to the Kanom Bueng Yuan Stall:

What Is Chinatown All About?
The Mighty Markets of Bangkok’s Chinatown
What is YAOWARAT ROAD all about?
What is Trok Issaranuphap all about?
What is Talat Kao all about?
What is Talat Noi all about?

Talat Noi has a long history predating the founding of Bangkok. The first ethnic group to settle here were the Portuguese from Ayutthaya. They built a Portuguese church in 1786, today known as the Holy Rosary Church or, in Thai, Wat Kalawa. Later, other ethnic groups came to live in Talat Noi, not only Chinese but also Vietnamese and Khmer. The area was Bangkok's first port, and was where immigrants landed. The name Talat Noi means 'little market'. Today, Talat Noi is a cultural attraction (not a bust port and not an actual market).

Yaowarat Road (เยาวราช) is about 1.5 km in length. Along both sides, gold shops and Chinese restaurants: noodles, rice, dim sum, bird's nest soup are found. More shops, especially those selling fruit and Chinese traditional medicine, can be found in the small lanes branching off the main road.

The Sampeng Market in Chinatown consists of an elongated narrow alley that runs parallel to Yaowarat Road. The whole alley is packed on either side with small shops with everything you can think of.

Royal warrants of appointment (Thai: ตราตั้ง) in Thailand have been issued for decades initially to those who supplied goods or services to the King of Thailand, but have evolved to include companies and businesses that have shown exceptional services and commitment to the economic and social development of the nation. The warrant enables the company to advertise the royal approval of distinction with the display of the royal Garuda (Phra Khrut). Woeng Nakhon Khasem (Thai: เวิ้งนาครเขษม, pronounced [wɤ́ːŋ nāː.kʰɔ̄ːn kʰā.sěːm]) is a market in the Samphanthawong District, Bangkok, Thailand. It is popularly known as the Thieves Market as formerly mostly stolen goods were sold there. The market is surrounded by Charoen Krung, Chakkrawat, Boriphat, and Yaowarat Roads in the area near foot of Damrong Sathit Bridge (Saphan Lek) with close to Wang Burapha and Khlong Thom. Its name literally translated as delightful townspeople alcove.

Trok Issaranuphap is vintage Bangkok….. Not a market place as such, but rather This narrow alleyway contains a wonderful wet market and just about every type of food one can imagine in Chinatown. Trok Issaranuphap is a lane connecting Charoen Krung Road and Yaowarat, the main thoroughfares in Chinatown, starting just south of the Mangkon Kamalawat Temple. There are plenty of take out opportunities here, and the small lane is one tremendous shopping and photo op spot. The lane is very atmospheric, and a real ode to what Chinatown is all about. The true nature of old Bangkok can’t be sampled at its busy malls and modern shopping districts, but in enclaves such as this timeless thoroughfare in Chinatown.

Woeng Nakhon Khasem regarded as the first shopping district in Bangkok that has it all. It occurred during the King Chulalongkorn (Rama V)'s reign. HM the King bestowed this land to Prince Paribatra Sukhumbandhu. In the year 1905, it was the site of the first cinema in Siam (now Thailand) in the name of a Japanese Cinema, due to being operated by Japanese.

I didnt expect Laos to have a mall this nice.

Hear me out. most of Laos is very rural. but in the main city of vientien is pretty nice. although they dont have any sky scrapers or other things most major cities have they do have a really nice mall. it's not the best mall but it is nice for Laos. and it has the only theater in all of the country.
