In this week’s People and Places of North Mayo video series we meet the legendary Pat Rouse of Rouse's Bar Ballina. Located in the heart of Ballina town, this traditional Irish family run business has been in existence since 1947. Pat tells us how the bar came about and how the premises itself has been a pub since 1865, making it one of the town’s oldest bars.

Rouse’s Bar Ballina is a true family business, with all family members working there at some point or another! It is a really popular old school bar offering a friendly welcome, a great pint, and regular traditional Irish music sessions. This pub is a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike. This week in our People and Places of North Mayo video series we meet Aiden Anderson of Iceford Stables. This family run business is located just 10 minutes from Ballina and is surrounded by the stunning scenery of the Wild Atlantic Way. The activities available at Iceford offer an exhilarating day out for all from age five and a half upwards. Whether it’s your first time on a horse or whether you are an experienced jockey, Iceford has something for you.

With indoor facilities, Iceford can open all year around for lessons, treks, pony camps and birthday parties. Guided outdoor treks for more confident horse riders consist of peaceful countryside treks through the farmland with views of Nephin and the River Moy. They are guided by experienced and qualified staff including Lizzy Naughton whom we also meet in the video.

The perfect activity for locals and holidaymakers alike, a visit to Iceford is a must for a really unique and enjoyable North Mayo experience.

This week in the People & Places of North Mayo, we meet Michael Carr, owner of Bar Square, Paddy Macs and Times Square Nightclub in the heart of Ballina town. With a varied business model, Michael tells us all about what it takes to keep your customers happy, and how this has been the key to his businesses success.

A family run establishment, Paddy Macs has been in existence for 32 years now. The live music late bar, - Bar Square is the ideal venue for big band entertainment with acts like the Tumbling Paddies and Gorilla Radio performing. In this weeks episode of our ‘People and Places of North Mayo’ video series, we visit T.Breathnach’s Pub in Ballina, North Mayo. Owned and managed by Tomas Walsh, this traditional Irish pub offers a wonderful atmosphere, efficient and friendly staff and a customary Céad Míle Fáilte. T.Breathnach’s is a lovely spot to visit for a quiet midweek pint, for the best line up of sporting events, not to mention live music on select nights. Tomas has a great sense of humour as do his team members. This makes it a very special place to visit on any trip to North Mayo. To top it off, they pull a great pint of Guinness!

In this weeks episode of 'The People & Places of North Mayo' we visit an award-winning North Mayo establishment - The Merry Monk, Ballina. Joe Lavelle, his daughter Gillian and their dedicated, friendly and experienced team have been looking after locals and visitors alike for nearly 25 years!

The Merry Monk Ballina offers a really unique dining experience using only the highest quality of produce. Their kitchen and restaurant are supplied daily with fresh vegetables and salads grown chemically free on their vegetable farm! They also serve their unique daily speciality of Lamb which is reared also on the green field of the Monk’s very own Lacken based farm.
This level of traceability from field to fork is amazing and something that we applaud. With exquisite taste’s all year round in a relaxed atmosphere, it is hard to beat this hidden North Mayo gem! The also offer quality accommodation in the adjoining premises - The Belfry.
