Undiscovered Gem in Lagos Nigeria 🇳🇬 You Must See

Koko Beach Hotel a Resort Lagos Nigeria 🇳🇬

Why spend scarce dollar on Santorini or the Maldives when I can experience the same, if not better, vibes right here in Lagos? Contributing to the local economy and strengthening the naira simultaneously. Situated on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, Lagos, a safe state in Nigeria, offers everything for a perfect vacation – from city vibes to cultural immersion, and exquisite 5-star Koko Beach Resort.

Last weekend, while seeking a break from city life, I rode to Ikoyi jetty and took a 15-minute speed boat ride to Koko Beach. It was my first visit, so I had my cameras ready to capture the beauty. Upon arrival, I was stunned; Lagos is undoubtedly beautiful, but I never imagined finding a paradise within paradise.

Koko Beach in Lagos provides a unique blend of luxury, relaxation, and adventure, boasting various activities, stunning views, and world-class facilities. Its beauty lies not only in its natural surroundings but also in its accessibility and convenience. Situated close to Snake Island, the resort’s long coastline stretches from Badagry Creek lagoon to the Atlantic Ocean. Visitors can reach the property by helicopter or boat, with a convenient 30-minute shuttle service available from designated docks in Lekki, Ikoyi, or Victoria Island in Lagos State.

Whether you seek a romantic getaway, a family vacation, or a corporate retreat, this beach is the perfect destination for you.

B for Badagry

Badagry, also spelled Badagri, and traditionally called Gbagle, is a coastal town and local government area (LGA) in Lagos State, Nigeria. It is between the city of Lagos and the border with Benin at Seme.

Founded in the late 1720s by Popo refugees from the wars with the Fon people of Dahomey, Badagry was, for the next century, a notorious exporter of slaves to the Americas.

Badagry is mainly known for its part in the slave trade era and today we will be visiting the major slave routes in the town.
Mobee Family House & Slave Relics Museum:

History has told us that the coast of West Africa was a fertile area for slavers in the 1800s because the rulers, chiefs, and warriors collaborated with the foreigners to capture their own people.
The Mobee Family House & Slave Relics is One of three slave museums on Marina Road and is filled with manacles that slave traders used to restrict the enslaved.
History has it that At the height of the trade in Badagry, the white cap Chief Sunbu Mobee traded many of his people with the Portuguese in exchange for valuables. This dark reputation was tied to the family until his son ascended the Mobee throne and abolished the trade in 1886.
Today, the relics of the family’s participation in slavery and many of the tools used to capture and hold captives can be found in the Mobee Family Slave Relics Museum, which sits at the top of Mobee Street in Badagry.

Our next stop is

The First Story Building in Nigeria.

The first cemented well in Badagry and the entire state, was made in 1842 when the foundation of the building was first laid. The locals call it the Miracle Well while the year 1842 is boldly carved on the upper rim of the well.

The foundation of the First story building was laid in 1842 but the building was completed in 1845. The well never gets dry, especially during the dry season, it is very clean, odorless and tasteless. It is the first well in the State for Nigeria's first well is located in Daura, Katsina state. It was made in 1425.

Inside the first story building you find evidence of everything that was used in building the house still standing since 1842. It still contains every iron corrugated sheets ever used on the building.

The building also doubles as a small museum paying homage to Anglican missionaries and educational system in the country. It pays homage to the first teacher in Nigeria, Mr Claudius Philips (1845–1868).

It also contains Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther’s Yoruba bible and the first English Bible brought to Nigeria by CMS missionaries.

Also inside the building is the first safe in the country which currently contains cowries, the first money spent by our forefather and the first notes used by Nigerians in 1973.

Within the compound you will find wooden signs which shows where the first Anglican church, school, boarding house and kitchen used to stand before they all collapsed.
There were no secondary schools then.

We then cross over to the jetty which is down the same road to board the boat to the other side of the water to islands where the Point of No return is located.

The Point of No return

The only way to get to the Point of No Return is by water. The Point of No Return was the slave trade’s last stop on the African continent.
From the jetty point it is about 30 minutes walk to the sea front where the big ship docks to take the slaves on their journey to an unknown destination.
On our way we saw a craftman’s shop where we found different things made from coconut shell. The name of the owner is Mr Gbenga, he moved to the island some years back and he has been selling his crafts to visitors to the island.

Halfway into the walk is the Slave’s Spirit Attenuation Well. The tired slaves could get a drink of water, which, according to story, traditional chiefs believed it would cause memory loss among slaves so they will not recall their first days on the ships.

Standing at the end of the long walk amongst leafy palm trees with sound of the ocean nearby is the slave tunnel, a large, spiral-looking structure, still under construction by the government of Lagos state.

There are two long bricks which was what was left of the tunnel back then. The new spiral structure is built to give the experience of the walk made by the slaves to the ship where they are ferried off to an unknown destination. Some of them never to return home, while some did.

While taking in what the slave walk could have been you can hear the soft music the ocean waves is producing mixed with the sound of the palm fronds dancing to the wind. It is a beautiful atmosphere which has a tainted past, hopefully leading us to a better future with the aim of mot forgetting humanity.

We walked back, took the jetty back to badagry and prepared for our next destination.

There are other sites to cost in Badagry, this means you have to spend a night or two to take in the history and what the town has to offer. Mine was a daycation which means I returned back to Lagos.

Lagos International Trade Fair Complex -Badagry #nigeria #badagry #lagos #africa #projects

Today we are bringing you another amazing content from our visit to Lagos Nigeria and that is the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex.

Just when I thought I have seen it all here in Lagos then I came across this mind blowing project which is just massive.
Ok so what you are seeing in your shots right now are not residential buildings but rather warehouses. I mean warehouses where people keep their goods, when I got here with my brother Sunny Chima I thought these are some sort of estate until my brother told me, no these are where the bulk goods are kept. I was like wow I just can’t believe this.

The establishment is a 350 hectare facility along Lagos-Badagry expressway hosting a number of market traders. The facility was constructed in the 1970s and planned to host an international trade fair upon fulfillment. In 2002, jewelry, auto spare parts and other consumer goods traders from Balogun Market on Lagos Island relocated to the complex. Today, the complex host traders representing a number of trade factions including Balogun Business Association, Auto Spare Parts And Machineries Dealers Association (ASPMDA), and jewelers under the banner of Association of Progressive Traders.

The facility was designed by Zoran Bojović and constructed by Energoprojeckt in partnership with the Nigerian government, it was opened in 1977 to coincide with the first Lagos International Trade Fair. At fulfillment, it was the biggest project of Energoprojekt in Nigeria. The company and its designers including Bojovic also executed projects in Kano and Yola. It is theorized by Rem Koolhaas that Bojovic incorporated some of the architectural forms found in Kano into the designs of the trade fair complex.

The design of the complex placed emphasis on exposition pavilions, a demonstration hall was dedicated to the federal government while state governments also had their own halls, two halls were each dedicated to Nigerian and international corporations. Other facilities within the complex was a recreation park and an artificial lake adjacent to the park, a number of chalets, a press center, shopping stalls and a festival square.

Over the years, the infrastructure within the complex have been poorly maintained. The complex was concenssioned to a private firm in 2007 but that approval was abolished in 2018.

Thank you guys for the support always and we promise to bring to your screens amazing content always
