Novi Sad is the largest city of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina in the north of the Republic of Serbia , as well as the seat of provincial authorities and the administrative center of the Južnobački district . The city is located on the border of Bačka and Srem , on the banks of the Danube and the Small Bačka Canal , in the Pannonian Plain and on the northern slopes of Fruška Gora . Novi Sad is the European Capital of Culture in 2022. After Belgrade , Novi Sad is the second city in Serbia in terms of population (without data for the area of Kosovo and Metohija ). In the last official census from 2011, the city itself had 231,798 inhabitants. In the municipal area of Novi Sad (including suburban settlements), the number of inhabitants in 2011 was 341,625 . Founded in 1694 . For a long time, Novi Sad was the center of Serbian culture, which is why it got the name Serbian Athens. Today, Novi Sad is a large industrial and financial center of the Serbian economy, a university city and school center, a cultural, scientific, health, political and administrative center of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, a city that hosts many international and domestic economic, cultural, scientific and sports events, as well as a city museums, galleries, libraries and theaters.

In this week's travel vlog we visit Subotica, which we truly enjoyed exploring. Don't miss this city in northern Serbia (Vojvodina)!
We start our day in Subotica in the city center where we admire the City Hall which was built in a beautiful Hungarian Art Nouveau style. We then go to a restaurant called Lipa for some breakfast. We eat different types of Burek, including a unique Pizza Burek! We then stroll through the streets of the city a little bit more. We buy popcorn with Serbian seasoning from a street stall and make our way to Subotica Synagogue. After some more sightseeing we go to a restaurant called Sarajevo for the final Cevapi and Serbian sausage during our Serbian travel.

Another day of hills, views and very quiet roads. From the start an 11km climb. Some sneaky 10% bits. Then the rewards came. Views and a sweet descent. Back down into another valley. The regional centre of Pirot. Visited a sells everything shop for some more WD40. Then a flat run beside the motorway to our destination. Very threatening storm clouds once again. Sheltered under an overpass from one rain dumping. Then took the chance to continue and arrived without any further rain. Once again staying in an Hotel in the middle of town.
Spent the afternoon walking, sitting, watching, drinking and finally eating. Sporting complex that seems to accommodate all. Some incredibly tall basketballers heading to training. The buy everything shop - this time looking for a brush to clean the bikes. So much stuff you can hardly move. Town sits snugly beneath some very forested hills. Motorway viaduct cutting through the hill. Very close to the Bulgarian border. Last night in Serbia.

Od prvog minuta ide oštrija slika :)
Najnovija turistička atrakcija na Zlatiboru je multimedijalna fontana otvorena 30. juna na Dan opštine Čajetine. Posle rekonstrukcije Kraljevog trga i obnovljenog izgleda samog jezera koje je napunjeno čistom izvorskom vodom, ovaj najpoznatiji simbol zlatne planine krasi i novi multifunkcionalni park.
Ovaj zahtevan projekat osmišljen je pre dve godine, a glavni sadržaj parka je Fontana koja se sastoji iz više segmenata.
''Air flow'' čine dve velike fontane koje, pored toga što imaju dekorativnu funkciju, takođe prečišćavaju vodu, i to tako što se voda meša s vazduhom. Poseban segment su dva džeta (sudaraju se mlaznice) sa imenima Tara i Zlatibor (mesto gde se voda igra, pleše).
Glavna fontana je multimedijalna, jer omogućava razne medijalne sadržaje preko lasera i video projektora. Na vodenom bimu, dugačkom 30 a visokom 10 metara, može uživo da se emituje video projekcija, kao i ona unapred pripremljena. Tu su 23 mlaznice vode, od kojih 12 ide ravno u visinu do 18 metara, a 11 su plešuće. Svaka mlaznica je nezavisna i opremljena je sa odgovarajucom opremom za programirani rad u sistemu i zeljenom programu. Sve mlaznice su opremljene odgovarajucim podvodnim RGBW reflektorima sa DMX kontrolom za rad fontane u nocnom rezimu.
Oprema video i laserske tehnologije sadrži video projektor za video projekcije na vodenom ekranu i 3 lasera. Video projektor i jedan laser smešteni su u posebnoj tehničkoj prostoriji iz koje se šalje slika i programirani laserski snop na vodeni ekran u jezeru i omogucuju prikazivanje video projekcije i scenske efekte ogromnih mogucnosti sinhronizovanih sa vodenim i svetlodnim efektima ili odvojeno. Ugrađena su još dva lasera na stubovima izvan prostorije u kome su smesteni Video projektor i laseri i ova tehnologija omogucuje zeljene scenske efekte na vodenom ekranu ili na veštačkoj magli iznad jezera i trgu koja je formirana pomocu opreme koja se postavlja oko jezera.
Na dnu jezera nalazi se zvezdano nebo sa 200 svetlosnih tačaka.
Oko jezera su motivi ''Staza ljubavi'', ''Dečja staza''- „Staze zabave“ (sa dečjim motivima)
Na Kraljevom trgu se nalaze svetlosni gobovi sa motivima Zlatibora, kao i motivima određenih manifestacija, praznika, dečjim i drugim.
Velika je prednost što Zlatibor poseduje pre svega jedinstvenu prirodu. Ona u sklopu sa svetlosnim efektima formira ambijent koji stvara emocije, gde pored toga posetioci doživljavaju dinamički spektakl u samom jezeru sa čistom izvorskom vodom.

Just one big climb to deal with. Up to 11%. About 1km of 9-10-11%. Needed some rests & walks. Good to be back in the hills. It hurts but gives great rewards and recovery times. 3 dimensional. Flat riding is relentless and draining. Almost 2 dimensional. Fabulous back road running near the main highway. Virtually no traffic. Lots of beehives in the mountains. Most photos seem to show the massive storm clouds we spent the ride avoiding. They were in front & behind us. Raspberries, lavender fields in the high country. Local football ground with statue & named after famous Yugoslav footballer (Rajko Mitić) who was born in Bela Palanka. Very lucky to miss the thunderstorms while cycling. Checked into the local hotel. Nicely presented, good room, if a little smaller than the apartments we have been getting used to. Once in Bela Palanka the skies opened up well & truly, thunder & lightning. 5 dogs chasing a car down the street. Even a power outage in town. Nothing we can do except bar hop for the afternoon.
Keep cycling - even when you have a walking stick. Wet Little Wolf who has seen a lot. The fun of working out a Serbian menu. Worked out perfectly for our needs. Veal soup, fried zucchini, potatoes in butter, bread and 1 litre of white wine. Very little English spoken where we've been here. We think we may be the only people staying in this hotel. Front door locked once we had checked in. Have to come & go via the rear door. Absolutely no sign of anyone else.

BELA PALANKA, SERBIA (part 2) - subtitled
The municipality of Bela Palanka is located in southeastern Serbia on the territory of Pirot District. Bela Palanka is located at the edge of Sicevacka Gorge in Nis-Pirot direction.

Remesiana is the birthplace of the bishop, missionary, and church writer Nicetas of Remesiana (330-410), whose efforts helped the town become an episcopal. He was also the author of the famous Christian hymn Te Deum Laudamus (‘Thee, O God, We Praise’), which is still sung in churches today. It is worth noting that, inspired by this hymn, the French composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier wrote the music, which today accompanies the opening sequence of the Eurovision Song Contest.
At the very center of the present-day town one can find an archaeological site, the remains of a basilica from the Roman-Byzantine period, which was remodelled and adapted according to new needs in later epochs.
On the town square there is a monument from 202 AD dedicated to Roman Emperor Septimius Severus and his son Caracalla who passed through Remesiana on their return from the Orient to Rome.
During the construction works on Corridor 10, the archaeologists discovered a milestone which dates back to the early 3rd century A.D. The 2.4 meter-high stone column from the Roman period is well-preserved. On the very route of Corridor 10, the archaeologists also unearthed the remains of a villa speading on 25000 square meters from the same period.
The milestone was set up in 230 AD beside the main Roman military road Via Militaris during the rule of Roman Emperor Alexander Severus, the last ruler from the Severus dynasty, which ruled Rome for 42 years. The milestone shows the distance to Niš to be 22 miles, or 35 kilometres, corresponding to the present-day distance between the two places. A milestone is, incidentally, one of the rarest archaeological finds, since they were relatively few and were usually placed at crossroads and in places where travellers changed their tired horses.
Turkish Kale used to be Turkish town, during the Turks rule. The shape of the town was rectangular, it has two entrances (gates), and the city was built mostly of stone.
Rajko Mitic was a Serbian footballer, coach, executive and a journalist. He is considered as one of the most important footballers in the history of football team Red Star Belgrade. The Red Star stadium was renamed after him in December 2014. Rajko Mitic had the reputation of a true gentlman, on and off the field. He was born in the village Dolac near Bela Palanka, and his monument stands today at the entrance of Bela Palanka.
The heroes park “Vrelo” represents the most beautifull part of the town. The monument “Girl on the Rock” is dedicated to the beautiful girl Bela who sacrifieced her life to preserve the honor.
Malo Kurilo and Veliko Kurilo are hills within the massif Stranje. Both hills are positioned from two sides of Bela Palanka. The easiest way to reach the hill Veliko Kurilo is from the road Bela Palanka – Oreovac, or by going on the well-marked pedestrian path that starts from “Vrelo” in Bela Palanka and goes through the forest.
The old water mill from Turkish period was built at the end of the 18 century, during the rule of Turks. It was owned by Turk Afis Usein. After the liberation it was sold to the Zlatanovic famliy from Bela Palanka. The mill is still active.
The bridge from the Turkish period (1639 year) is the best preserved object from this period.

De Croacia a Serbia: Mi experiencia de viaje en autobús
Viajar en autobús de Croacia a Serbia es una experiencia que merece ser contada con detalles. Durante el trayecto que se tarda poco más de tres horas saliendo de Osijek (Croacia) hacía Novi Sad (Serbia), se aprecian como son los poblados croatas mientras se atraviesa la zona noreste del país. El viaje con un recorrido de 115 kilómetros es corto pero por las detenciones del autobús en pueblos y fronteras de ambos países tarda un poco más. En auto particular se puede hacer en casi dos horas, pero que al no disponer de auto propio, lo hice en un bus tradicional que hace la ruta entre ambas ciudades tres veces por semana.
Como experiencia de viajar en bus haciendo este trayecto entre Osijek a Novi Sad me quedo con una serie de paisajes en los que por un momento se observa el río Danubio como el límite natural entre Croacia y Serbia. Quizás este será un viaje más para muchos, pero si en algún momento tu interés es de viajar a Serbia desde Croacia en autobús esta es una buena historia que te servirá de guía quizás para preparar un viaje a un nuevo país: Serbia.
