???????? Ciudad NEZAHUALCÓYOTL | Surviving in MEXICO'S Sprawling SURBURBIA | Mexico Travel 2020

???????? Ciudad NEZAHUALCÓYOTL, ESTADO DE MEXICO - Hi everyone and welcome back to another Mexico Travel video! After numerous recommendations, I decided to check out how Mexicans are surviving in the sprawling suburbia of Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl - a vast city to the north of Mexico City's Iztapalapa and southeast of Pantitlan and Benito Juarez Airport.

Is Mexico dangerous? An area well known for poverty, close to Mexico City (CDMX), (including many residents earning a living from picking trash at a huge dump) and crime (the well-known Cholos - a gang subculture with roots in 90s LA gangs), Ciudad Neza provides you with a valuable insight into the reality of day to day Mexican life for locals who work independently, running food outlets, working at car mechanics, washing cars at traffic lights and so on.

In this video we discuss the necessity (as foreigners) to understand employment opportunities in other countries and accept cultural difference when we decide to embark on a Mexico trip - things will take a while to get your head around by coming to place like Ciudad Neza will really open your eyes.

We also head to Chimalhuacan, visit Glorieta Cabeza de Coyote (head of the coyote), Guerrero Chimalli (an Aztec Warrior monument) and walk the streets and markets of a Mexico you may not have expected. So if you're looking for places to visit in Mexico or would like to visit supposed dangerous areas in Mexico - Neza could be the one!

【4K】Ciudad de México - Clavería 2019 manejando por

#manejandopormexico #elprincipe #CDMX

Walking Tour in Mexico City Azcapotzalco

Walking Tour in Mexico City Azcapotzalco

It's super easy and cost effective to do a stop over in Mexico City when you are visiting other parts of Mexico.

We went Saturday-Monday in June.
Before you go I highly recommend watching the Frida Kahlo movie to familiarize your self with the most famous artists in Mexico.

Here's my recommended itinerary:
day 1:
Parque Coyoacan, from there you can walk to Mercado Artesanal, and House of Frida, and a bunch of yummy food (find the list in video below). Near there is Xochimilco (take a taxi) where you can ride on the Trajineras. It is really nice to enjoy during sunset and into night time.

Day 2:
Zocalo: literally the epicenter of M.C. Enjoy all the hotels and government buildings that are covered with Diego Riveras art which incapsulates the history of the Mexican Revolution. There is an endless list of galleries in that area as well. Take a short metro ride to El Museo de Arte Popular in Colonia Centro.

Day 3:
Bonus: Parque de Chupultepec, has beautiful landscapes, a castle, a little lake and lots of fun activities. It's my favorite park in M.C.
What I wrote in day 1&2 we did in two and a half days, but I think it's fully possible to fit all that + this park in 3 days.

Mexico City - Xochimilco

XOCHIMILCO FLOATING GARDENS, COYOACAN AND FRIDA KAHLO MUSEUM
Today your guide will take you to the famous Xochimilco Floating Gardens. This area is a large system of canals based on the original make-up of the city of Tenochitlan, as Mexico City was called before the arrival of the Spanish. When the first nomadic settlers arrived in the Valley of Mexico they found an enormous lake. As the years went by and their population grew, the land could no longer satisfy their agricultural needs. They solved the problem by devising a system of chinampas (floating gardens), rectangular structures akin to barges, which they filled with reeds, branches and mud. They planted the barges with willows, whose roots anchored the floating gardens to the lake bed, making a labyrinth of small islands and canals on which vendors carried flowers and produce grown on the chinampas to market. Today Xochimilco is the only place in Mexico where the gardens still exist. You will take a pleasant voyage through the canals in a colourfully painted traditional trajinera boat.
This is a very popular activity with the locals at the weekend when floating mariachis and food vendors punt alongside extended families and tourists out to enjoy a day in this ancient manner.

Walking through Coyoacan, you can imagine how it must have looked in the early 1900s. Today, Mexico City has sprawled to encompass the once lush vegetation of Coyoacan's tree-lined streets with colonial homes and museums, cafés, boutiques, restaurants, art studios and local artesanos that create a certain ambience and charm. The main square in Coyoacan is the Plaza Hidalgo and Jardin Centenario. These adjoined areas are in the centre of historical Coyoacan and form the zocalo with decorative hedges, fountains and trees. On the weekends this plaza is filled with people, artesanos and street vendors - a prime place for people-watching from the many restaurants, cafés and bars with outside seating around the two squares.

Murals depicting Mexico's history make up the cornerstone of Mexican art. Today you will visit the Museo Frida Kahlo (the Blue House). This was the home of Frida and Diego Rivera from 1934 to 1940, and the innovative building was designed for them by their friend, the architect and painter, Juan O'Gorman. The building featured in the Hollywood film 'Frida' and contains a few examples of Rivera's works and is filled with memorabilia. The Blue House displays a few pieces of Kahlo's art as well as other artists' paintings and pre-Hispanic objects and Mexican crafts that Frida collected
