Could this place be too good to be true? This town in Puebla ???????? is surreal
You’re about to fall in love with this pueblo magico as we take you to explore its charming architecture, local gastronomy, it’s magical garden, and breathtaking views of one of Mexico’s largest volcanos, Popocatepetl. Alixco de la flores is located in Puebla and only 3 hours away from Mexico City.
We came to Atlixco in July, right after our Royal Caribbean cruise and just before we moved to Mexico City. We wanted to experience small town living one more time before hitting the big city. And our week in Atlixco was everything we needed. Relaxing, but with plenty to explore, delicious food, so so green and beautiful, and incredible views of the majestic Popocateptl volcano. This is a town we’d come back to again and again.
We’ve been to 27 pueblos magicos now, and it's our goal to see all 177 someday! We’ve been exploring the beauty of Mexico and growing closer to our heritage since we left Chicago in 2021, and there’s still A LOT to do, see, and learn. So if you haven’t already, make sure you’re subscribed with the notifications on so you don’t miss a video.

Atlixco, Puebla ¿Qué hacer? / Costo X Destino with english subtitles

The City of Flowers! Atlixco, Puebla (Mexico Travel Vlog)
During our stay in Puebla, we had to make a day trip out to Atlixco. This Pueblo Magico is known for its cultivation of flowers and is often called Atlixco de las Flores meaning Atlixco of the Flowers! Atlixco sits at the base of several volcanoes, one being Mexico's second tallest volcano, Popocatépetl.
Unfortunately, when we were in Atlixco the weather was cloudy and overcast for most of the day so we weren't able to see the volcanoes. Nonetheless, this city did not disappoint! Between all of the murals and painted staircases, delicious food, and colorful narrow streets, our favorite attraction was the swing on Cerro de San Miguel. Cerro de San Miguel is a hill that sits in the middle of Atlixco that offers multiple viewpoints of the city, a stunning view of the mountains and volcanoes (on a clear day), a beautiful church, and a swing that soars over the city!
Getting to Atlixco from Puebla City was very easy! We took the Oro bus for only 35 pesos per person (one way). Puebla City has three Oro terminals and this website will help you find the station that is closest to you!

In Atlixco you will find all the characteristics common to Pueblo Mágicos, a Zocalo, colourful buildings, music, amazing architecture and of course food!
In this video I head to the Zocalo, Mercado Benito Juarez to try Cemitas (a common dish in Puebla) and head to Cerro de San Miguel, a church on a hill which is a lookout point for the active volcano, Popocatepetl. WELCOME to PUEBLA MEXICO - TOP THINGS to SEE and DO! #puebla #travelvlog
Today we are in Puebla, Mexico, a region known for its 10 Pueblos Magicos or magical towns noted for their mystical and mythical character and for maintaining their original architecture, culture, folklore, and history intact.
We are exploring two of the Pueblos Magicos: Cholula ad Atlixco. Cholula is known for the Great Pyramid of Cholula, the largest pyramid by mass in the world! In the background is the volcano Popo aka, Popocatépetl. We also check out the notable churches in the region, including Capilla Real de Naturales famous for its many Moorish-style domes.
Next, we visit Atlixco which is only 45 minutes from Puebla city. We start with the Jardin Magico (Atlixco) which has a Japanese garden and many sculptures made of plants. The town of Atlixco is festive, colorful, and filled with murals. We try the cuisine of the region including the unique flavored icecreams, the tlacoyos, mole, and the Mexican Marinated skirt steak Arrachera. We also visit the famous staircase of the dancers, La Escalera Ancha.
We finish our tour in Puebla city and explore the colorful streets at night, including the most photographed alleyway called: Callejón de los Sapos.

ATLIXCO, PUEBLA MEXICO BUS & WALKING TOUR: Shopping, Dining, Cafes & Pyramids - MEXICO VACATION
Annie and I enjoyed 17 days in the greater Puebla, Mexico metroplex. The weather was fantastic. Average temps were around 72 degrees with plenty of sun and often a mild cool breeze. You can't complain about that. Back home in Fort Worth, it was freezing!!!
In this video we offer up a bus and walking tour of Atlixco, Puebla, Mexico. We visit churches, coffee shops and my favorite mercado in the region. We visit a downtown restaurant. We show you how we navigated public transportation from Puebla to Atlixco. This is not your usual upscale tourist adventure. #Atlixco #Puebla #Mexico #Restaurants #CoffeeShops #WalkingTour
The city of Atlixco is in the west of the state of Puebla at an elevation of 1,881 meters above sea level, 25 km from the state capital of Puebla. The main economic activities of the city are agriculture and basic commerce. It lies at the foot of the Cerro de San Miguel mountain, which is the main geographical and cultural landmark, marked by a small hermitage at the top dedicated to the Archangel Michael. According to local lore, a demon was entrapped in the well there, after causing problems in the community. There are also lookout points that provide panoramic views of the city.
The city centers on a main square which is Moorish in style, surrounded by restaurants and other places selling local specialties and ice cream. Notable location on or near the square include the Casa de la Audencia, with its portal supported by Tuscan columns, the Portal Hidalgo, the old Marqués de Santa Martha House, the Botica Poblana pharmacy (founded in 1877 but taken down around 2005), the Rascon Building from the late 19th century, CADAC (an arts and trades school) and the Isaac Ochotorena House from the 18th century. Another important area of the city is Colonia Cabrera, noted for its abundance of greenhouse production of flowers and ornamental plants.
The most important churches in the city date from the 18th century, noted for their intricate folk Baroque facades created from stucco by indigenous craftsmen. The La Merced Temple is all that remains of a Mercedarian monastery. Most of the church, including a decorative side door is from the 17th century, but the façade is from the 18th century. The main portal is decorated with paired columns, spiraling vines in high relief and ornamental sculptures in niches on both the upper and lower levels. The doorway itself is a lobed Moorish arch. The center of this decoration is a niche with an image of the Virgin of Mercy, who shelters Mercedarian founder Pedro Nolasco and other saints with her cloak. The interior was redone in the 19th century, but maintains a large colonial era portrait of Our Lady of Mercy by José Joaquín Magón as well as an 18th-century inlaid wood pulpit.[10] This church has a collection of paintings from the colonial period. This collection is under the care of the Adopt a Work of Art campaign working to restore many of the canvases to their original state.
The Third Order Chapel is at the foot of the hill where the former Franciscan monastery is located and also has portal work of stucco. The west façade has a classic altarpiece design in folk Baroque with cherubs and angels throughout. It contains pairs Solomonic columns with vines and fruits with two tiers of ornamental niches with saints and apostles. Above the arched doorway is a cornucopia and above this is a choir window covered by a shell arch. On either side of the window there are columns and geometric relief patterns as well as Moorish medallions. Inside there is a notable 18th-century gold leaf altarpiece called the Retablo de Reyes - Wikipedia
