LAKE MAGGIORE ITALY│TOP 10 THINGS TO DO

LAKE MAGGIORE ITALY│TOP 10 THINGS TO DO
VIDEO OF THE BEST THINGS TO DO IN LAKE MAGGIORE ITALY! STRESA, ISOLA BELLA, VILLA TARANTO, LAKE MAGGIORE BEACHES AND MORE! TIPS FOR YOUR HOLIDAYS ON LAKE MAGGIORE ITALY!

LAKE MAGGIORE - STRESA:
FIRST THING TO DO ON LAKE MAGGIORE ITALY: SPEND ONE DAY IN STRESA. STRESA IS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR DESTINATIONS OF LAKE MAGGIORE! IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE NINETEENTH CENTURY LAKE MAGGIORE AND STRESA WERE ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR DESTINATIONS IN ITALY: LORD BYRON, STENDHAL, CHARLES DICKENS, HEMINGHWAY AND MANY OTHER FAMOUS PERSONALITIES WERE ATTRACTED BY THE BEAUTY OF THIS SHORE OF LAKE MAGGIORE!

LAKE MAGGIORE ISOLA BELLA:
ANOTHER INTERESTING THING YOU CAN DO ON LAKE MAGGIORE ITALY, RIGHT IN FRONT OF STRESA, IS TO VISIT THE GORGEOUS ISOLA BELLA. THE ISOLA BELLA ON LAKE MAGGIORE IS A PERFECT COMBINATION OF ART AND NATURE IN A STUNNING PLACE! ALSO BELOVED BY HEMINGHWAY, WHO SET ONE OF HIS MOST FAMOUS NOVELS IN THIS HEAVENLY PLACE: A FAREWELL TO ARMS!
THE ISOLA BELLA LOOKS LIKE A LARGE VESSEL SAILING THE WATERS OF LAKE MAGGIORE, DRENCHED IN A MAGICAL ATMOSPHERE!
THE BORROMEAN PALACE OCCUPIES MOST OF THE SURFACE OF THE ISLAND, IT IS THE RESULT OF FOUR HUNDRED YEARS OF WORK. ACROSS THE YEARS THE BEST ARTISTS HAVE TRANSFORMED THIS DESERTED SPUR INTO AN ICON OF THE BAROQUE ART IN ITALY. THE ISOLA BELLA PALACE HAS MORE THAN 100 ROOMS. THE RECEPTION FLOOR IS THE BEST PRESERVED PART OF THE PALACE, WHERE THERE IS THE GALLERY OF THE PAINTINGS: OVER 150 PIECES OF ART. IT'S CONSIDERED THE MUSEUM OF THE ISOLA BELLA!
HERE IN STRESA, IN THIS VERY PALACE ON THE ISOLA BELLA, LADY DIANA AND THE PRINCE CHARLES WERE INVITED. IN 1986, DURING ONE OF THEIR FIRST TRIPS TO LAKE MAGGIORE ITALY, THEY WERE HOSTED INSIDE THE PALACE BY THE BORROMEAN FAMILY.
THE GARDEN OF THE ISOLA HAS THE SHAPE OF AN AMPHITHEATRE. THERE ARE SEVERAL STATUES THAT REPRESENT THE FOUR CLASSICAL ELEMENTS: AIR, EARTH, FIRE, WATER. THERE ARE OBELISKS AND THE UNICORN, THE HERALDIC SYMBOL OF THE BORROMEAN FAMILY. THE GARDEN IS A SPECTACULAR BALCONY WHERE TO ADMIRE LAKE MAGGIORE, THE GULF OF STRESA AND THE SURROUNDING MOUNTAINS. STATUES, OBELISKS, FOUNTAINS, FLOWERBEDS AND STAIRWAYS HAVE BEEN ARTFULLY CREATED TO CELEBRATE THE POWER OF THE NOBLE BORROMEO FAMILY.

LAKE MAGGIORE - THE BOTANICAL GARDENS OF VILLA TARANTO:
THE BOTANICAL GARDENS OF VILLA TARANTO IS A SPECIAL PLACE, A WONDERFUL AND GARDEN THAT CAN'T BE COMPARED TO ANY OTHER IN ITALY. WE ARE IN VERBANIA, ON THE WESTERN SHORE OF LAKE MAGGIORE. IN VILLA TARANTO THERE ARE MORE THAN 20.000 BOTANICAL SPECIES FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD THRIVE IN DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTS, EACH ONE WITH ITS SPECIFIC MICROCLIMATE, EXPRESSLY REALIZED TO ALLOW VEGETATION TO GROW PROPERLY. MORE THAN 4 MILES OF WELL SIGNALED WALKWAYS ALLOWS 150.000 PEOPLE EVERY YEAR TO VISIT THE GARDENS OF VILLA TARANTO INDEPENDENTLY. THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PART OF THE GARDENS OF VILLA TARANTO IS THE AREA OF THE TERRACING, CHARACTERIZED BY THE TYPICAL GEOMETRIC SHAPES OF THE ITALIAN GARDENS, WITH FLOWERBEDS, FOUNTAINS AND WATER GAMES, AND WITH THE STATUE OF THE FISHERMAN, BY THE NEAPOLITAN SCULPTOR VINCENZO GEMITO. WE ARE IN THE HEART OF THE CASTAGNOLA PROMONTORY OF LAKE MAGGIORE, SO CALLED BECAUSE ONCE THIS AREA WAS A HUGE CHESTNUT WOOD OF WHICH FEW TREES STILL ARE IN THE PARK. THE OLDEST IS FROM THE 17TH CENTURY.
THE BOTANICAL GARDENS OF VILLA TARANTO HOST MANY LOTUSES.

LAKE MAGGIORE - ARONA:
ARONA IS ONE OF THE MAIN CITIES ON LAKE MAGGIORE. ARONA IS VERY POPULAR THANKS TO THE MANY RESTAURANTS, PUBS, THE PEDESTRIAN OLD TOWN AND THE BEAUTIFUL LAKEFRONT, AND THANKS TO ONE OF THE MAIN MONUMENTS OF LAKE MAGGIORE: THE STATUE OF SAINT CARLO BORROMEO, THE TALLEST STATUE IN THE WORLD FOR OVER 200 YEARS! THE STATUE OF SAINT CARLO OF ARONA IS 115 FEET TALL. NOWADAYS IT'S THE SECOND HIGHEST EMPTY INSIDE STATUES IN THE WORLD AFTER THE STATUE OF LIBERTY IN NEW YORK. ONCE YOU REACH THE TOP OF THE STATUE OF ARONA YOU’LL BE BREATHLESS FOR THE BEAUTY OF THE VIEW!

VILLA DELLA PORTA BOZZOLO
IF YOU ARE WONDERING WHAT TO DO WHEN ON HOLIDAY ON LAKE MAGGIORE, ITALY, HERE IS ANOTHER GREAT IDEA! ON THE EASTERN SHORE OF LAKE MAGGIORE YOU CAN VISIT THE VILLA DELLA PORTA BOZZOLO, A GREAT COUNTRY MANSION RENOVATED AND TRANSFORMED INTO AN ARISTOCRATIC DWELLING IN THE 18TH CENTURY! LOUNGES AND SITTING ROOMS, GALLERIES AND BEDROOMS WITH LIVELY FRESCOES WITH ILLUSIONISTIC PAINTED ARCHITECTURE, MYTHS AND ALLEGORIES, COLORFUL FLOWERS PAINTED EVERYWHERE. VILLA DELLA PORTA BOZZOLO IS A MASTERPIECE OF THE ROCOCÒ PERIOD, WITH ORIGINAL FURNISHINGS THAT RECREATE THE ATMOSPHERE OF A NOBLE EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY RESIDENCE.

6 Amazing Places To Visit In Italy | Italy | Things To Do In Italy | Travel Video

Check out our travel blog website for more.

00:10 - Lake Como
00:52 - Ischia
01:36 - Polignano a Mare
02:36 - Cinque Terre
02:39 - Rome

1) Lake Como
Lake Como is located in the northern region of Italy, only 48 kilometres north of Milan. The area of the lake is 146 kilometres, which makes it the 3rd largest lake in Italy after Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore and it is the fifth deepest lake in Europe. Como has been famous since the old ages where Celtic tribes settled there followed by the Roman Empire in the 1st century BC. If you are visiting Como, you will see its Roman origins in the orderly grid of streets of its historic centre.

2) Ischia
One of the best activities to do in Ischia is to relax in one of its many thermal baths. Ischia is a volcanic island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, an hour’s boat ride from Naples and also close to Capri and the Amalfi Coast. There are over a hundred thermal springs in Ischia, and while this might seem like an expensive option, there are many thermal baths, suitable for every budget.

If you’re willing to spend a little extra, you can head to one of the hotels and try their thermal pools and wellness complexes, or for a more interesting experience, you can bathe as the ancient Romans did two thousand years ago at the Cavascura baths. For a very budget-friendly option, you can bathe for free at the hot springs on Sorgeto beach.

3) Polignano a Mare
Polignano a Mare is a coastal gem before the sparkling waters of the Adriatic Sea. This city is perched atop a limestone cliff and boasts unmatched views and atmosphere. It is one of the most popular Puglian cities where travellers choose to stay. In addition, the history of Polignano a Mare is one of the unique features that it offers. This city has roots back to when Greek settlers founded the settlement of Neapolis in the 4th century BC.

The historic centre of Polignano a Mare features white-washed, winding streets with many sites of different cultures. It has the “Pino Pascali” Museum and some old churches, such as the Matrice Church from the 13th century.

Polignano a Mare is famous for its fabulous beaches. It is a spot where you can find many picturesque sandy or pebbly beaches. Besides, the cliffs and coves flank the crystal waters of some beaches, adding to their allure.

4) Cinque Terre
Cinque Terre is known for the beautiful pastel-colored houses in the villages, especially in Manarola, Riomaggiore, and Vernazza. You can climb up to the outdoor Nessun Dorma bar in Manarola head to have an unencumbered view of the colorful houses rising from the cliff below. In Vernazza, you can follow the trail in the direction of Monterosso al Mare, and you will be rewarded with a wonderful viewpoint of Vernazza from above.

5) Rome
Rome was founded in 753 B.C, by Romulus its first king. Romulus and Remus were the twin sons of Mars, the god of war. As babies they were left abandoned in a basket on the Tiber. Legend has it that a she-wolf rescued them and raised them, but when they grew up, Romulus killed Remus and became the first ruler of Rome. This is also how Rome got its name. Rome was built on seven hills, they were Palatine Hill, Aventine Hill, Capitoline Hill, Esquiline Hill, Viminal Hill, Caelian Hill and Quirinal Hill. They were known as the “Seven hills of Rome”.

2) Rome
