DONCASTER ROUND-UP
Hello DONCASTER people!
It's been a while I know, but finally the DONCASTER ROUND-UP video is here!
Using information that's been sent to me by all you lovely people out there, this is the video that catches all those comments and anecdotes and whatever else you wanted me to talk about, that I either missed or got wrong in the 43 parishes of DONCASTER!
In alphabetical order, I go through the borough, detailing anything and everything you guys wanted me to! I love putting your areas on display and I've enjoyed every single one of the Doncaster parishes, they're all unique in their own way!
It's taken me six months to get through the entire district. It is such a varied part of the country, taking in things like coal mines, open farmland, waterways, some amazing buildings, some excellent nuggets of history and above all some awesome people! Thank you for letting me put your areas on display, and making Doncaster stand out!
Cheers all, enjoy the round up and I'll see you down the road.
Andy

HENHAM: Uttlesford Parish #3 of 60
There are many pretty villages all over this beautiful land we call home here in England, but there might not be many more like this one. When I visited this village, I honestly did not want to leave it! The locals are so friendly and it's such a gorgeous place to walk around. There's so much to see as well for a village of only 1,500 people.
We start in the South of the village and it takes about 20 minutes to walk the full length of it, maybe 25 if you walk to the church before continuing East to the other end along the High Street like I did. Honestly though, you'll want more than an hour to appreciate everything there is to see and do in the village.
Passing the school, you're greeted with the village pump on one of the numerous greens which are protected by the parish council, overlooked by the church hall, the phone box (yes it's a book exchange!) and something called the OSCA, which is like a village hall in all but name. The war memorial is right in the centre, equidistant from the church of St Mary the Virgin and the volunteer-run village shop.
Perhaps the most unique feature here would be the duckponds which line the High Street all the way from the war memorial to beyond the shop, and where they stop the road becomes much more rural in nature as it works its way between the thatched cottages towards the cemetery. This might be located in some of the best Essex farmland there is, but very few of the residents rely on land to survive here. This is very much a commuter village.
Home to the comedian Ed Byrne and the man who played Coronation Street's Fred Elliott, this is the village and the parish of HENHAM.

500 SUBSCRIBER SPECIAL - WELCOME TO DONCASTER
Hello everyone!
As promised here is the 500 subscriber special that I’ve been working towards. THANK YOU for each and every sub this channel has got!!
I have an idea for the 750 mark too now. It won't be a video, but rather an experiment...if you're intrigued, come and join the party if you haven't already!
This is a DONCASTER themed special and it does focus on the town centre, an unparished area of the borough. I still have to visit 16 parishes in the borough. They are in no particular order:
SPROTBROUGH & CUSWORTH, BRODSWORTH, THORNE, AUCKLEY, CANTLEY, TICKHILL, ROSSINGTON, BAWTRY, EDENTHORPE, ARMTHORPE, STAINFORTH, KIRK BRAMWITH, FISHLAKE, SYKEHOUSE, HATFIELD and BARNBY DUN WITH KIRK SANDALL.
Quite a lot still to do within Doncaster!
As I said before, I couldn’t have got this far without you. YOU are the reason I can do this. .So I hope you enjoy this special video dedicated to your town centre. Fun fact, I used to live in Doncaster a few years ago, so I do know it very very well. Doesn't mean I won't have missed anything though! Feel free to leave comments as always, but most of all enjoy the trip around the town!
See you down the road..

MAPPLETON: East Riding of Yorkshire Parish #123 of 172
EAST RIDING OF YORKSHIRE PARISH #123: MAPPLETON
Welcome back to the East Yorkshire coast folks! This is the parish of Mappleton which sits 3 miles to the South of Hornsea. As well as Mappleton village the parish includes the hamlets of Rolston, Cowden and Great Cowden, and it all overlooks the North Sea on the fastest eroding cliff in the whole of Europe.
In 1991, sea defences were built in order to protect the village and the B1242 which is the main road through Mappleton. Before that, intense sea erosion that had threatened to swallow up not just the cliff, but also the village itself. Although it’s still eroding away, it’s now slowed to a point where it is no longer a threat to the settlement. The success of the project created a larger higher sandy beach for Mappleton.
Locals and tourists alike can now enjoy the fabulous Mappleton Beach, a popular local attraction at the bottom of the cliff, which has a free car park at the top. You do have to have your wits about you on Mappleton Beach. Coastal erosion often reveals lots of explosive material thanks to a former RAF bombing range located down the coast at Cowden.
As well as the beach, the village itself offers a lot for such a small place. Here you can enjoy the old post office tea rooms and the fabulous Grade II listed church. Mappleton is also one of the best places to visit to see some of the UK’s coastal wartime defences.
So get your Speedos on, it’s time for a paddle in the sea!

ARMTHORPE: Doncaster Parish #39 of 43
Five parishes to go in Doncaster beginning with one that really does deserve town status. For some reason though, this one does not possess that title, unlike three of the other remaining four which all do, two of which are either smaller of similar in terms of their population.
Whatever we want to term this one, you cannot deny how this area of Eastern Doncaster had changed so much over the course of the past few centuries. Once a very small agricultural village with a load of scattered houses accounting for just 237 people in 1801, fast forward just 220 years and this is what it looks like now. A vast thriving metropolis housing some 14,000 people.
Why did it grow so fast? Well as with most areas of South Yorkshire that relied heavily on coal mining, the Model Village that sprung up opposite Markham Main Colliery when nit was sunk in the 1920s was the catalyst for a much bigger influx of people over the next 100 years. These days, with the pit closed, the Model Village is just one of the many residential areas in this village.
This was a settlement too, that never considered itself a Doncaster suburb, and even now, it remains the case with discernible boundaries, one of which is the 1903 South Yorkshire Joint Railway which skips past the Western edge of the village as it passes Shaw Wood - one of the many wooded areas that lie within the parish boundaries. I sometimes wish these video descriptions could be longer, because I could rant on about this place for ages.
What I can't type though, you can most certainly watch. It's all here, in the parish of ARMTHORPE.

FINNINGLEY: Doncaster Parish #26 of 43
Time to look now at the other parish that shares Doncaster Sheffield Airport with Austerfield, and highly significantly, this is the one that gave it's name to the RAF base where the airport was constructed. No surprise then that this area is no stranger to all things aviation-wise, with history going back over a century when the RAF base was first built on a strip of land at Bancroft Farm.
Perhaps the defining feature of the main village though is not the airport, but much more likely the duck pond in the centre, well maintained and attractive on The Green. The huge playing field shared with it's neighbour, Blaxton., only adds to the village's lovely features, complete with tennis courts, a playground and fabulous cricket pavilion.
St Oswalds Primary School takes it's name from the church, partially, which has a long and storied history in itself, and the graveyards here also remind you of the war, with an area completely reserved for RAF burials. This place seemingly has a fair share of things to get your teeth into, and although it's quite small, the residents of this place know that it has many an attraction and they're proud to live, work and play within it's boundaries.
That's before we've even considered the old abandoned farmhouse in the centre that despite my best efforts, I couldn't find any information for. I'm relying on the locals to work their magic with that one!
Above all, I think as Doncaster parishes go, you'd be hard pushed to find anywhere quite like FINNINGLEY.

STAINTON: Doncaster Parish #12 of 43
If you thought that here at TVI HQ that going to a place such like as the one we're about to see here, was going to be easy given the size and population of the place, well think again.
This place won't win any awards for being the biggest or the most populated that's for sure, but sometimes the smaller the place is, the more you have time to explore and find out things about it and suddenly the video becomes a whole lot more interesting, and that's why tonight's offering is just that.
Loaded with small and charming features like a pond, a fast flowing stream, another of those phone box libraries, a park with a winding wheel style entrance and a pub boasting a restored WWII munitions cart used during the Tour de Yorkshire, this place has a lot to offer. And that is without taking about the quarries. Or the links to Maltby Colliery.
Hannah came with me for this one and genuinely did not want to leave when we'd finished. This is the delightfully pretty STAINTON.

MONKTON: Thanet Parish #5 of 11
If someone said Monocstune to you, you'd likely bless them for sneezing! That is of course unless you're familiar with the village that used that have that as it's name way back in the Middle Ages when the Domesday Book recorded it along with the rest of the country. Monocstune almost literally translates into monks town which indicates the presence of monks in this part of Thanet.
Yes, here this village was very much one that was owned and run by monks, from Christ-Church in Canterbury when queen Ediva granted lands in the year 971 to it. At that time, the village was so small it only had a handful of houses, but how things have changed now. The modern era has brought massive developments to this small corner of Kent and whilst some are most certainly in favour of it, many are not, indicated by the signs that float around the village asking for a cap on development here.
If you can see past all that, this village is very pretty. It's full of old interesting buildings like the Manor, the Royal Exchange and The White Stag Lodge (which interestingly, allowed horses at one time to walk through the bar when it was a pub called the New Inn!). There's also a fabulous ancient church, one of only seven remaining on the Isle of Thanet.
The road through the village is a dead end, meaning any onward travel after arriving here from Minster must tale the small central mini roundabout which links it to the A253 or A299 Thanet Way. If you choose the former, be sure to check out the nature reserve, the cafe and pet cemetery and the art gallery, all located in the small hamlet of Gore Street which will greet you if you head for Sarre.
Enjoy Monocstune then everyone. These days we know it as MONKTON.

Eastbourne, UK - Mavic Air
Once the rental car was ready, I headed over to Eastbourne where I stayed for one night. I arrived late in the afternoon and didn't have all my batteries charged, unfortunately. I set up in my room and quickly put all my devices on charge. Went out to dinner and then got back to pick up all my batteries for a quick night flight. Needles to say, the footage wasn't very good...
The next morning I took out to fly my Mavic Air for a solid 30 mins. Even though the wind was blowing strong, the Mavic Air performed really well and my footage wasn't compromised!
Also, rookie mistake, I didn't notice that my frame rate had changed while editing my videos... hence why this video is only at 30fps instead of 60fps :(
