Ardestan and Zavareh are two old cities in Iran. There are many ancient relics and artifacts in the area that demonstrates how old the two cities are. In this first episode, firstly we visited the only two-storey qanat in the world, which is one of the wonders of Ancient Iran/Persia. We visited the ancient fire temples in Ardestan and Zavareh, which were later converted to mosques. We also went to see the Sarhangabad Palace in Zavareh, Amir Abad Palace, Sangbast Castle, the yakhchals (ice houses or ice pits) of Zavareh, and the old historical parts of the city... I hope you enjoy this video. Don’t forget to share it with your friends.

The world's first two-floor mosque, a Zoroastrian ashram that became a mosque

The world's first two-floor mosque, a Zoroastrian ashram that became a mosque
This mosque is located in the center of Mahal neighborhood of Ardestan and is one of the oldest mosques in Iran, which is the first two-story mosque in the history of Islam and the second four-evan mosque in the Islamic world, which was created in the Seljuk period.
This mosque used to be a fire temple or a temple, and it was destroyed by the Mongols in the 7th century. He killed and looted the inhabitants of the city and made it half-ruined, and it should be said that the original mosque was in the form of a mosque, with a central courtyard (miansra), pillared mosques on 4 sides of the courtyard, an enclosing brick wall and a door.
The history of Ardestan Grand Mosque construction can be divided into three periods:
The first period - the third century A.H. The mosque has been transformed from a domed fire temple to a mosque in the form of a nave in the Khorasani style. Of course, the current dome is related to the Razi style.
The second period - in the third and fourth centuries A.H., it was transformed from a domed nave into a mosque-like mosque.
The third period - in the 6th century A.H., during the era of the Seljuk Qayan, the mosque was almost destroyed and was built in the form of four porches in the Razi style.
The building has two construction dates; One is 553 AH, which is at the end of the large inscription of Shabestan Dome, and the other is 555 AH, which is recorded in the south porch of Shabestan, and it seems that the porch and the porch were built at the same time, but this is not the case. The fact is that around the year 553 AH, when the original mosque was converted into a mosque with four porches and the domed nave was converted into the mosque's prayer hall, they covered this nave with tiles similar to those of the new buildings.
Ardestan Jame Mosque was built in the style of Isfahan Jame Mosque (Razi style) and now it is a mosque with four porches. This mosque has several entrances. The main entrance, which is a long corridor, is located in the southwest corner of the mosque, which leads to Fahra neighborhood on one side and to Dasht Mahal on the other side. The facade of this entrance consists of an arch, two altar-shaped arches, two laths, two brick columns, two decorative frames, and two brick platforms.
In the northern part of the mosque, there are two entrances, one is connected to the seminary and the other is a short distance away, connecting the northern passage to the inside of the mosque. These multiple entrances connect the surrounding spaces with the mosque.
