One of the original 1926 routes, US 60 at it's peak ran from Virginia Beach, VA to Los Angeles, CA. US 60 came into Arizona from the west via Ehrenburg, and traveled to Quartzsite before turning and heading northeast near Brenda to Wickenburg. Originally, this road would have run all the way in to California, however when California renumbered it's state highways in 1964, they completely removed US 60, truncating it to the state line. Until the 1970's I-10 and US 60 remained co-routed all the way to the state line, but when this became redundant, US 60 was truncated once again to Brenda.
Modern US 60 still follows a lot of old US 60 from Brenda to Glendale, just with widened avenues. Entering Phoenix proper, modern US 60 jumps on the Black Canyon Freeway (I-17) just before The Stack Interchange with the Papago and Inner Loop Freeways (both modern I-10). At Durango Curve, the Black Canyon Freeway becomes the Maricopa Freeway before merging with the Inner Loop and meeting the southern end of I-17. US 60 continues along with I-10 along the eastern/southern most segment of the Maricopa, before splitting off in Tempe to follow the Superstition Freeway.
After heading through some of Phoenix's busiests suburbs, the Superstition ends in Apache Junction, with US 60 continuing it's treck through to Gold Canyon, where it begins climbing into the hills to Superior and Globe, where US 70 is now truncated (for the same reason as US 60 is now truncated to Brenda). It then heads almost directly north, turning northeast, then straight east near Show Low. IT crosses into New Mexico at Saint Johns to continue on it's treck through the country.

We start with a scenic train ride that reveals the town’s rugged past, followed by an informative mine tour that uncovers Goldfield's rich mining history. Next, we delve into the quirky Mystery Shack, where illusions and optical tricks play with our senses before exploring other areas of the town. We invite you to experience this journey back in time and immerse yourself in the charm of the old west with us!
About Goldfield Ghost Town:
During the Wild West era, a prospector discovered rich gold in the Superstition Mountains, leading to the establishment of the Mammoth Mine and the founding of Goldfield. The town grew quickly, reaching over a thousand residents and establishing essential services like a post office, church, and schoolhouse. However, as the gold ran out, Goldfield became a ghost town by 1898, with its population dwindling and buildings left to decay. Despite ongoing legends of the Lost Dutchman’s gold, attempts to reopen the mines were unsuccessful. In the early 1900s, businessman George Young introduced modern mining techniques, reviving the town as Youngsberg in 1921.
