Palau Travel Video
Palau Travel Video - The Republic of Palau is inimitable. Most Travelists who come here like to spend their time underwater, for Palau is among the worlds most spectacular diving and snorkelling destinations. It features coral reefs, blue holes, wartime wrecks, hidden caves and tunnels, more than 60 vertical drop-offs to play with, and an astonishing spectrum of coral, fish, and rare sea creatures. There are also some outright miracles of evolution: giant clams that weigh a quarter of a ton, for example, and a lake teeming with 21 million softly pulsating, stingless jellyfish.
But you dont have to get wet to enjoy Palau. On land the republic embraces Micronesias richest flora and fauna: exotic birds fly around the islands, crocodiles slip through the mangrove swamps and orchids sprout profusely in backyards. The Palauan archipelago is incredibly diverse, encompassing the polyglot state of Koror; the marvellous Rock Islands; Micronesias second-largest island, Babeldaob (the land that Pacific standard time forgot); Peleliu, once war ravaged, now just ravishing; tranquil, tiny Angaur; the coral atolls of Kayangel and Ngeruangel; and the remote South-West Islands.
Toss into the mix some of Micronesias most sociable (and responsible) people, and its no surprise that parts of Palau are known as the beginning of everything, a template the rest of the world would do well to follow.
About that responsibility: Palauans love a good, socially aware acronym, and you can see them everywhere on signs and billboards, like WAVE - Welcome All Visitors Enthusiastically or STARS - Start Treating Alcohol Related Symptoms. You might find yourself playing this game, too. And perhaps youll come to the same conclusion we did, that the name of this country is itself an acronym: Palaus Archipelago: Lovely and Unique.

Palau /pəˈlaʊ/ (help·info), officially the Republic of Palau (Palauan: Beluu er a Belau), is an island nation in the Pacific Ocean, some 500 miles (800 km) east of the Philippines and 2,000 miles (3,200 km) south of Tokyo. Having emerged from United Nations trusteeship (administered by the United States) in 1994, it is one of the world's youngest and smallest sovereign states. In English, the name is sometimes spelled Belau in accordance with the native pronunciation. It was formerly also spelled Pelew.[3]
Palau's most populous islands are Angaur, Babeldaob, Koror, and Peleliu. The latter three lie together within the same barrier reef, while Angaur is an oceanic island several miles to the south. About two-thirds of the population live on Koror. The coral atoll of Kayangel is situated north of these islands, while the uninhabited Rock Islands (about 200) are situated to the west of the main island group. A remote group of six islands, known as the Southwest Islands, some 375 miles (600 km) from the main islands, are also part of the country and make up the states of Hatohobei and Sonsorol.
[edit] Climate
Palau enjoys a tropical climate all year round with an annual mean temperature of 82 °F (28 °C). Rainfall can occur throughout the year, averaging a total of 150 inches (3,800 mm). The average humidity over the course of the year is 82%, and although rain falls more frequently between July and October, there is still much sunshine. Typhoons are rare, as Palau is outside the main typhoon zone.
Consists primarily of tourism, subsistence agriculture, and fishing. Tourist activity focuses on scuba diving and snorkeling in the islands' rich marine environment, including its barrier reefs walls and World War II wrecks. The government is the major employer of the work force, relying heavily on financial assistance from the US. Business and tourist arrivals numbered 50,000 in the financial year 2000/2001. The population enjoys a per capita income twice that of the Philippines and much of Micronesia. Long-term prospects for the key tourist sector have been greatly bolstered by the expansion of air travel in the Pacific, the rising prosperity of leading East Asian countries, and the willingness of foreigners to finance infrastructure development.
In July 2004, Palau Micronesia Air was launched with service from Palau to Yap, Guam, Micronesia, Saipan, Australia, and the Philippines. By offering low fares it was planned to be a competitor of Continental Micronesia, however it ceased operations in December of the same year, mainly because of rising fuel prices. Palau Micronesia Air has not restarted operations since but has made a codeshare alliance with Asian Spirit, a carrier that operates flights between Palau and the Philippines (Davao, Cebu, and Manila). There are two flights weekly from Manila via Cebu to Palau and one flight weekly from Davao. Just after few months of service, Asian Spirit ceased its Philippines to Palau route.
Taxes are moderate, the income tax has 3 brackets with medium rates (9.3%, 15% and 19.6%), corporate tax is 4% and general sales tax is 7.5%. There are no property taxes.

Ngardmau, Palau GEF SGP Project - Ecotourism/Cultural Tourism in mangroves and taro patch
The Ngara Ekil Traditional Womens Group of Ngardmau State, Republic of Palau developed an ecotourism and cultural tourism product as part of a Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP) project. This video shows highlights of a promotional tour offered in 2017. Visitors kayaked in a serene mangrove channel and observed endemic animals, visited WWII historical sites, were treated to traditional foods and cultural performances, had lessons in weaving and other centuries-old practices, and capped off their day by learning about traditional farming practices in a taro patch. This video illustrates how well-developed ecotourism products can contribute to food security, maintenance of biodiversity, alternative sustainable livelihoods, and transmission of culture across generations. At the same time, this tour builds global understanding of indigenous peoples.

Palau is an island paradise standing up to the world
The tiny island of Palau is a remote, beautiful paradise and the rest of the world knows it. But existing in a connected world can put extreme stress on small countries. The nation of just 20,000 people has seen an influx of tourists recently, but that hasn’t necessarily been a good thing.
But visitors arriving by the tens of thousands from such behemoths as Japan, South Korea, and China, put considerable stress on Palau’s environment and economy.
Quartz News travels far into the Pacific to find out how the island nation of Palau is standing up for itself against the world’s superpowers.

This video was captured during a work trip to Peleliu where with the extra time we had in our hands briefly explored some places on the island. Featured in the video are my closest friends and colleagues all graduates from the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana, Cuba
I went to school in Peleliu Elementary School from first grade till sixth grade and a very memorable childhood on this Land of Enchantment. When I first left Palau to pursue education in places like California, Hawaii and then Cuba I remember always reflecting back to my experiences and life back on the island. This the place where I first learned how to spearfish with my dad outside of the reef in the crystal clear blue waters. I used to explore the outskirts of the island with my childhood friends looking at the remnants of World War II. Never will my heart drift away from this wonderful and enchanted place.

At the End of the Rainbow (Palau Official Tourism Video)
Seen from above, the islands of Palau look like green calligraphy on an empty corn er of the sea. Over 470 miles east of the Philippines and locked in by the stretching Pacific Ocean, Palau is a rare oasis, a self-contained, isolated archipelago thriving with biodiversity and abundance. Palau has been named one of the Underwater Wonders of the World. An archipeligo surrounded by a fringe reef, Palau's waters are packed with a great diversity of marine life.
x
An attraction most can only dream of, this daring and unusual phenomena, Jellyfish Lake, departs radically from convention; for it is an enclosed body of water wherein - over the course of a millennia - resident jellyfish have completely lost their sting because they have not had to fight off predators. Instead, they spend their days in privileged leisure, pulsating gently from one side of the lake to the other while catching the sun's rays and farming their own food supply of algae.
Return of Marco Polo: Above & Below Palau
The Return of Marco Polo was a ship and TV program which charted a course around the world and documented 3rd world countries enroute. I joined the crew in Tahiti and sailed and created documentaries with them until we finished films in China. It was a long and grand journey of discovery and excitement.
