THIS PLACE IS STRAIGHT OUT OF A FAIRY TALE

We went to Jalpan de Serra in the Mexican state of Queretaro and this is what happened.
► WATCH NEXT: Our road trip to Hidalgo -

Jalpan de Serra is up in the mountains of Queretaro, Mexico. They call these mountains la sierra gorda. In la sierra gorda there are several magic towns, one of which is Jalpan de Serra.

In Jalpan, we rented the most unique home that we've ever stayed in! It's a tiny home that's shaped like a teapot, is round, and made from straw and mud.

We also had our first experience with a dry bathroom (GROSS!)

I went back to Queretaro, Mexico....

It's been 4 months since I moved out of Queretaro but it's time to go back to see my friends, my beloved dog Laska, & the city I used to call home. ❁❁Please subscribe❁❁

In case you're new to my channel and aren't sure why it's such a big deal that I'm coming back to Queretaro, let me fill you in....

I used to make Mexico travel vlogs with my then-boyfriend for about 3.5 years. We finally decided to settle down and make Queretaro our home base in Mexico to travel from. A few months later, unfortunately we broke up. He wanted to have children and I'm not sure if I ever do.

So anyway, at first I was going to continue living in Queretaro, but ultimately decided I could better move on from the 5.5-year relationship if I moved to another city and started fresh.

I've been living in Guadalajara for 4 months now. It's about a 5-hour drive from Queretaro so I haven't made it back as often as I would have liked. That all changed this week when I made the spur-of-the-moment decision to hop on a bus and travel back to Queretaro so I could see my old friends, have a long-awaited reunion with my dog Laska, and spend time in the city going back to all my old favorite places.

To my surprise, this trip was much more difficult than I expected. Being in my old stomping grounds brought up a lot of emotions. It might seem like I'm being dramatic but if I've learned anything in this whole process it's that breakups are messy and the aftermath can be extremely unpredictable.

We Visit Santiago de Queretaro, San Joaquín, and Amealco

We drive deep into the Sierra Gorda mountains to Maconi and make a strenuous hike to see a beautiful waterfall (Cascada Velo de Novia). After we head to the Pueblo Magico, San Joaquín, we liked it so much we made a second trip. On our way back we visit the archeological zone of Toluquilla which has some pretty cool pyramids, and the beautifully lit caves of Grutas los Herrera. Being that we were staying in the State of Queretaro we had to visit the capital city of Santiago de Queretaro with its colorful colonial buildings and cobblestone streets, and they also have a pyramid close by - El Cerrito, which means little hill - but there is nothing little about it. Finally we visit the birthplace of the iconic Lele doll - Amealco which is also a Pueblo Magico.

A Mexican Pulqueria - Amealco, Queretaro (A México Moment)

Drinking at a Mexican Pulqueria is like going to drink in a tavern in the US. Except in México, they serve Pulque as well as other drinks. This tavern in the video is located in Amealco in Queretaro state.

Check out the swinging doors.

This video will briefly explain what Pulque is and I will actually drink (for the first time ever) liquid Lemon Pie.

Yep, liquid lemon pie.

Enjoy this México Moment!

I have created an 11 day guided tour through the entire state of Queretaro. You will visit Amealco, go to a Pulqueria, explore the city of Queretaro, and visit many México Magic towns in this state. Also, you will travel through the beautiful Sierra Gorda mountains to visit some old Franciscan Missions.

Like wine? One of the regions of Queretaro has vineyards. You will visit one of the them.

Here is the link to this fun 11 days tour called, BEST OF MEXICO: Missions, Mountains & Magic Towns in Queretaro.

********************

QUESTIONS:
Have you been to Amealco? Love to hear your review.

Also, if you have gone drinking in a Pulqueria, did you like Pulque?
Thumbs up? or Thumbs down?

Queretaro City: A Day With One of My Local Guides - MEXICO w/Mike Vondruska - Travel Guide

Queretaro City is just one of Mexico's very beautiful colonial cities. It is the capital city of the state of Queretaro, located several hours north of Mexico City.

In this video, I met with one of the local professional guides who my tour company networks with in this state. The two of us hung out together as she showed me some of the historical sites, including the story behind the beautiful dolls which originated from this state. They are called, Leles (Lay-lays) or Marias.

Instead of editing the video clips I shot, I decided to just add a little music and for the most part, show you the raw video clips. That means ... you will see the mistakes I made while videoing. So basically, you will get to see exactly how my day went in Queretaro City with our guide, Mariana.

Enjoy!

QUESTION?
Have you been to Queretaro City? And would you did, what places did you most enjoy visiting while you were there? Just jot down your answers in the comments section. Love to hear from you!
