Adlington, Lancashire, UK

Adlington is a village and civil parish in the Borough of Chorley in Lancashire, England, near the West Pennine Moors. A nice place to live, it's quiet and a close enough drive to Chorley Town Centre and Middlebrook. There is a train station which goes to Manchester once an hour.

A Hidden Gem in the Heart of Lancashire! | Gawthorpe Hall

In this video we travelled north to the heart of Lancashire to explore another National Trust site called Gawthorpe Hall! This hall and it's surrounding grounds are considerably smaller than those we have previously visited but nevertheless it is a beautiful place to come for a stroll! The house is run as a museum by the National Trust but unfortunately all available slots were filled at the time of our visit so we weren't able to show you the interior. The grounds are small but free to enter so if you are just looking for somewhere to walk the dog or get out the house for an hour or two, Gawthorpe Hall is definitely worth a quick visit!

Walk From Poynton / Adlington Cheshire On The Middlewood Way 11 March 2019. A Super Place

Walking Films Northwest England Playlist

Had a window of 3 hours to do this before a massive storm came in! It’s one I’ve been meaning to do for years just to show how much fun it is and accessible too. Great for passing the time of day or getting out there and really hammering it! Hope you enjoy.

Chorley Town Centre Walking Tour. England, UK #shorts

Walking around the town centre of Chorley. My Adventure Planet

Chorley is a town and the administrative centre of the wider borough of Chorley in Lancashire, England.

Chorley is 8.1 miles (13 km) north of Wigan, 10.8 miles (17 km) south west of Blackburn, 11 miles (18 km) north west of Bolton, 12 miles (19 km) south of Preston and 19.5 miles (31 km) north west of Manchester.

Chorley town centre is bisected by the A6 Roman road.

It is located near to junctions 6 and 8 of the M61 motorway and junction 27 of the M6; Charnock Richard services are sited within the borough.

The town's wealth came principally from the cotton industry.

In the 1970s, the skyline was dominated by factory chimneys, but most have now been demolished.

Remnants of the industrial past include Morrisons chimney and other mill buildings and the streets of terraced houses for mill workers.

Also, given its location on the edge of Lancashire Coalfield, Chorley was vital in coal mining.

The last pit in the area to close was the Ellerbeck Colliery in 1987 which was located south of Chorley, between Coppull and Adlington.

Chorley had a population of 33,424 at the 2001 census, with the wider borough of Chorley having a population of 101,991.

The town is the home of the Chorley cake. Every October, the Chorley Cake Street Fair promotes the cakes with a competition for local bakers to produce the largest ever Chorley cake.

Adlington Train Station, Adlington

Adlington Train Station serves the town of Adlington, near Chorley, Lancashire.

Services at the time of writing (2020) include trains to Manchester Victoria, Hazel Grove, Preston, and Blackpool North.

The station is located on Railway Road in Adlington. Facilities include a ticket office and park-and-ride car park.

For more information go to

18/Sep/2020. Walk: Adlington - Blackrod and more!

This video could also be titled; “The least likely place to visit by train”. During the walk from Adlington to Blackrod I had lunch at Bolton West services despite not having or arriving by car!

I later walked from Bryn to Garswood, Mossley Hill to West Allerton and finally Sankey for Penketh to Warrington West. By chance I did Sankey for Penketh back in December walking the opposite direction from Warrington West. If I’d had to wait for the train I got off I’d have been waiting approx. two hours! Luckily, there was a train in the station waiting at the red signal and the conductor allowed me to get on. This time I did it officially and in daylight!

As things stand now I’ve still got three more GMPTE stations to tick off: Gathurst, Ince and Orrell.

Ellerbeck & Duxbury Park Collieries

Todays video takes us on a search of the ruins of Ellerbeck Colliery and Duxbury Park Colliery nr Adlington Lancashire .

Adlington Station 2/4/19

As we find ourselves with another free week on our hands we tackle our long list of revisits on the Northern Rail network, this time it’s the turn of Manchester and their vast railway network that crosses the city. This sets us up for a good day of revisiting locations that we have been to before but to improve and build on our pre-existing footage most of which we got in the summer of 2018. We also revisit a good number of locations around Lancashire which again makes for a lovely contrast between city and country. These are the individual videos for those locations some of which have been added to pre-existing video for a particular location to give a variety of footage captured altogether.

The full video diary can be found here:

Rivington Pike Hill in Lancashire, England

Rivington Pike is a hill on Winter Hill, part of the West Pennine Moors at Rivington, Chorley in Lancashire, England. The nearest towns are Adlington and Horwich.

Sponds Hill from Higher Poynton ¦ East Cheshire Walk ¦ Canal Walk

Join me in this video for a walk mainly in East Cheshire, but just straying into the High Peak area. We start out from Higher Poynton along the Macclesfield Canal, before leaving it at Lyme View Marina and climbing up through the fields and lanes of Pott Shrigley as far as Sponds Hill.
Our return route takes us via Bow Stones and down across Lyme Park back to our start point. I measured the distance at just over 10 miles (16km) but there are plenty of options to shorten or extend that if you wish.

You can follow this route on the OS Maps App here:

If you need the OS Map it is: OS Explorer OL1 - The Dark Peak -

Liverpool to Leeds Canal in Adlington near Bolton

Just some filming that I did whilst on a walk along the Liverpool to Leeds canal with my girlfriend. It was filmed in Adlington which is a little place in between Bolton and Chorley in Lancashire in England.

Trains at Adlington (10th June 2014)

Trains at Adlington (Lancashire) features the Northern Rail and First TransPennine Express units on the Bolton to Preston line

The units featured in this video are Class 150 and Class 156 for Northern Rail working services out from Manchester or Buxton to the North West of England.

First TransPennine Express speed through here with services to Blackpool North, Barrow-In-Furness, Windermere or some going to Scotland worked by Class 185 DMU but most of the Scotland services had diverted away from this stretch between Manchester and Preston via Bolton due to the new fleet of Class 350/4s, filmed 10th June 2014
