Abu Ghosh's Hummus Guinness Record in 60 Seconds |
On January 8, 2010, the town of Abu Ghosh cemented its place in history by making the largest plate of hummus ever. But alas, the savory, hyssop-tinged taste of victory lasted only a few short months, and in May of that year, Lebanese cooks prepared an even bigger dish.

Mosques of Abu Ghosh, Israel
Mosques of Abu Ghosh(near Jerusalem), Israel
This video shows two mosques of Abu Ghosh, old and new, named after Akhmat Kadyrov, Ramzan Kadyrov's father. About 10 million dollars were spent on the construction of the mosque. Of these, 6 million came from the Chechen government.
According to one version, the locals are descendants of Chechens, immigrants from the North Caucasus, who moved to the territory of the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.
At the old mosque, there is a historical cemetery where the ancestors of the current inhabitants of Abu Ghosh are buried.

Emmaus Trail: Abu Ghosh to Emmaus/Nicopolis
By using GPS coordinates, it's possible to hike an ancient trail thought to be Emmaus for a distance of 18k. Emmaus/Nicopolis is one of the proposed sites for Emmaus. The possible sites are:
-Motza (Colonia/Qulunya), which is west of Jerusalem and was used as a Roman Legion
retirement location for soldiers
-Castellum (Abu Ghosh)
-Emmaus el-Qubeibeh now in the Palestinian Territories
-Emmaus/Nicopolis (Hwy 3 & Rd 1 to Tel Aviv) This was the later Byzantine attribution
The reason for speculation regarding the sites is because of textual variant in Luke's Gospel account in Luke 24: either 60 stadia or 160 stadia. Based on the distance, the above different site locations are proposed.
Several sites along this hike existed in the time of the Second Temple Period or earlier:
-Horvat Metzad~ A Hasmonean structure guarding the road (2nd-1st C BCE)
-A Grouping of Roman Milestones
-Horvat Aqad
-Valley of the Springs (Ayalon Canada Park) Ancient Water System & Baths

My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this calling in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.
ANCIENT CRUSADER CHURCH in Abu Ghosh Israel
I visit Fr. Olivier at the Benedictine Monastery in the Arab village of Abu Ghosh, not far from the Holy City Jerusalem in Israel. This church dates back to the time of the Crusaders, with amazing frescoes from the 12th century still visible, and with ruins dating back to the time of Jesus!

Emmaus Trail | In the footsteps of Judah and Jesus from Abu Ghosh to Emmaus-Nicopolis
Emmaus Trail | In the footsteps of Judah and Jesus from Abu Ghosh to Emmaus-Nicopolis
From Abu Ghosh to Emmaus-Nicopolis
Despite not being an absolute certainty of the location of the Emmaus of the Gospel, Christian tradition has identified Emmaus-Nicopolis as the place in which Cleopas and his friend recognised the risen Jesus. Nowadays the ruins of a Byzantine basilica can be visited at this site.
From Saxum Visitor Center (outside Abu Ghosh) to Emmaus there are 20 kilometers that can be hiked following several trails. Part of today’s route was more than two thousand years ago a Roman road that connected Jerusalem with Jaffa’s seaport. Along the way some interesting archaeological sites can be found.
The trail can be hiked in about five to six hours. To plan how to come back, it is important to take into account that the itinerary is not circular, but it ends at Park Ayalon-Canada. So, a good plan would be, for example, to drive a car beforehand to this park, and use it at the end of the hike to reach Emmaus-Nicopolis (a short distance, but without a suitable footpath for hikers). There are also several buses that stop near Emmaus-Nicopolis that can take you either to Jerusalem or Abu Ghosh.
It is a trail of medium difficulty. It is highly recommended to wear appropriate shoes, as the way is stony, and to avoid the hottest hours of the day, as well as carrying plenty of water, because there are no fountains along the way.
The Gospel story
The Emmaus Trail is the way that Cleopas and the other disciple walked from Jerusalem to their village, after the death of Jesus. While they were discussing the events that had taken place the days before, at some point on the way, perhaps near Saxum, the risen Jesus appeared to them.
Neither disciple recognised Jesus, but they listened, amazed at his interpretation of the Scriptures. “Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way?” (Lk 24:32). When they arrived at Emmaus, they invited him to stay the night with them. It was only then, when he broke bread with them, that they were able to recognise him.

ABU GHOSH (KIRYAT YEARIM) Ark of the Covenant
Abu Ghosh (Kiryat Yearim) is well known, but do you know that the Ark of the Covenant once stood here! Again meaningful and beautiful biblical site in the Holy Land.
Crusader fortress - Israel - The Benedictine monastery at Abu Ghosh
The Benedictine monastery in Abu Ghosh is a monastery belonging to the Olivetan Benedictine stream. It is located in the center of the village Abu Gosh, Israel. The monastery is situated near a mosque in the village center.
The site of the monastery is a spring, on top of which the Crusaders built a church in the 12th century. A monastery was founded on the site and operated until the 15th century. In the 20th century, after the renewal of Benedictine settlement, the site's buildings were renovated or rebuilt.

Our Lady of the Arc of Covenant in Abu Ghosh Israel - Notre-Dame de l'Arche d'Alliance
In 1924 a new church was built on the ruins of the old Byzantine structure. The monastery and the Church of Our Lady of the Ark of the Covenant belong to the French sisters of the Order of Saint Joseph of the Revelation. The remains of the Byzantine church can be seen within the new church and in the courtyard. The floor of the new church incorporates the remains of a colored Byzantine mosaic, in a wall there is a stone with an inscription mentioning the Auxiliary Battalion of the 10th Roman Legion. Architectural elements from the old church are displayed in the courtyard. The church is the venue of the annual Abu Ghosh Music Festival. The Sisters of St Joseph of the Apparition own and manage the facility and operate a guest houses and pilgrim center on the holy site. The modestly decorated guest rooms offer beautiful views of the Judean mountainside while the expansive grounds provide outdoor prayer areas and gardens which are conducive to quiet reflection, mediation and other peaceful activities. On a clear day, from the garden you can see the Mediterranean to the West and a wonderful view of the road leading up to Jerusalem 12 km away. The guest houses is open to people from all nations and is particularly popular with Evangelical groups. The property can be reached by public transportation but is more ideally accessed by private car or tour bus. Facilities are available for numerous activities including conferences, seminars, meetings, private or group retreats. Group rates are available upon request. One of two interesting churches here. Our Lady of the Ark of the Covenant, was built in 1924 and is a local landmark, with its statue of Mary carrying the baby Jesus. It belongs to the French Sisters of St Joseph of the Apparition, and they believe that it stands on the site of Abinadab's house, where the Ark was kept (I Samuel 7:1). The church is built on the same site as a larger Byzantine church, and you can see its mosaic floor inside and out. The church is located at the top of the hill overlooking the village and facing Jerusalem

THE BEST HUMMUS in the world!
******Available in HD******
Hi, everybody!
Who doesn't love hummus? Do you know where you can eat absolutely the BEST hummus in the worls? OFC it's in Middle East,
OFC it's in Israel! But where exactly? Abu Ghosh!
The town of Abu Gosh, just outside Jerusalem in the Jerusalem Hills is the unrivaled hummus capital of Israel, and some would say, the world. An Arab-Israeli village, Abu Gosh is famed across Israel for its fifteen amazing hummus restaurants, with Israelis traveling from far and wide to eat. As well as its food, Abu Gosh is famous for the Abu Gosh Music Festival, a vocal music festival which takes place twice a year and attracts some impressive performers.
Our favorite spot is Naji Resturant
Before this amazing hummus we went to BENEDICTINE ABBEY OF ABU GHOSH:
The Benedictine Monastery in Abu Ghosh has been in the village for about 1,000 years, since the time of the Crusades, and includes the Church of the Resurrection. According to Christian belief, Abu Ghosh stands in Emmaus, the place where Jesus revealed himself to his disciples after he was resurrected, and the Church of the Resurrection is devoted to celebrating that revelation. The beautiful monastery was active until the end of the 15th-century, and for some 300 years it stood empty, until the Benedictine presence was renewed and the compound was rebuilt and renovated. It is surrounded by lush greenery, and the walls abound with frescoes, some of which date back to the 12th century.
A fountain flows out from a crypt at the base of the monastery. The monastery echoes with music all year round, but twice a year, the public can come and enjoy the choral music festivals that are held there and at the Notre-Dame de l’Arche d’Alliance church at the other side of town. Besides singing, the monks of the monastery engage in a variety of activities, including preparing lemon liqueur and throwing pots at the local studio. All of the products are sold in a store adjacent to the monastery.
In the end I'm showing you a crazy Elvis Presley place located just outside Jerusalem :)
I also hope you gonna like our drone shots from there, we managed to fly a bit and catch the view of Jerusalem :)
Thank you very much for watching, don't forget to subscribe my channel and visit my social media!
Hope to see you next time,
