Slovenia is a beautiful destination with a lot of nature and beautiful cities. On our round trip through Slovenia we visit the Triglav National Park with its many waterfalls, hiking trails and wooden bridges. The capital Ljubljana and Slovenia's second largest city Maribor are also worth a visit.
If you want to combine city trips with nature, then Slovenia is the right place for you. The country is a real insider tip in Europe. There are many sights you can visit. In addition to Triglav National Park, there is the Vintgar Gorge, where you can walk on wooden bridges above the water.
Bled and Lake Bled is a haven of peace in Europe. A church in the middle of the lake fascinates all visitors. A real Instagram hotspot ;) The Postojna cave is huge. You will be taken by an underground train to the cave and you can take a guided tour to see the wonder of nature. With the Predjama Cave Castle combination ticket, you get a discount on two sights. We got the tickets for free. Therefore it is marked as advertisement in the video.
The capital Ljubljana is a self-confident European city with a special vibe. You can feel the people's joy of life and we immediately felt very comfortable. Much smaller is Maribor, the second largest city in Slovenia. Here it is worth taking a guided tour to learn more about the interesting history of the city.

10 Best Things To Do In Ljubljana Slovenia
1. VISIT LJUBLJANA CASTLE
Sitting majestically on a hilltop overlooking the city, Ljubljana Castle deserves a top spot in your itinerary for the city. Built in the 12th century, the castle features the Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance architectural styles. Many parts of the castle have since been rebuilt or expanded. The St. George’s Chapel, from the 15th century, is one of the oldest parts of the castle that still survives. You can walk up to the top in about 10-15 minutes, or you can take the funicular. The castle is a stop on the Ljubljana tourist train tour as well. We took the funicular up and loved the views on the ride up the hill. At the top, take in the panoramas from the viewing tower. You can see pretty much the entire city spread out below you: the tops of the stalls in the market, the spires of the Franciscan Church, and the tall buildings of the modern city beyond.
2. VISIT LJUBLJANA’S “PINK CHURCH”
The prettiest photos of Ljubljana I saw online before our visit featured this gorgeous pink church. So of course it was one of the first places in the city we visited.
The Franciscan Church of the Annunciation occupies a spot on Prešeren Square. Its beautiful pink facade looks great from up close, but even better if you view it from a little ways away. Built in the middle of the 17th century, the church was originally painted red on the outside. With time, the color faded to an attractive pink, and it’s been kept that way since! The inside of the church is beautiful as well, with frescoes on the ceiling and the walls. The Baroque altar was designed by Francesco Robba, an Italian sculptor.
3. VISIT DRAGON BRIDGE
The dragon is the symbol of Ljubljana. It’s on the city’s coat of arms and its flag, and on the four corners of the Dragon Bridge over the Ljubljanica River. The bridge was opened to traffic in 1901, and features 16 smaller dragon statues as well. The story goes that the dragon lived in the marshes around the Ljubljanica river. Jason of the Argonauts happened to set up camp in the area on his way back to Greece whilst waiting for the weather to clear.
When the dragon made its presence known, killing one of Jason’s soldiers and breathing fire on to the camp, Jason set out to find its lair. Eventually he was able to overcome and kill the dragon.
4. BROWSE THE LJUBLJANA CENTRAL MARKET
Ljubljana’s Central Market is actually made up of three parts: an open market in the Vodnik Square and the Pogačar Square, covered stalls between the two squares, and a series of stores that stretches from the Triple Bridge to the Dragon Bridge, along the riverfront. The market building that runs along the river was designed by Jože Plečnik. The two-story building has a colonnade on the street side and large windows overlooking the river at the back.
5.CRUISE THE LJUBLJANICA RIVER
The river is a huge part of Ljubljana’s beauty, and getting out on to the water is a great way to enjoy the sights long the banks from another perspective. Covered tourist boats run all year, as long as the water levels are not too high.
6. ADMIRE THE BRIDGES OF LJUBLJANA
Ljubljana’s bridges deserve a dedicated tour, they are so pretty, and historic as well. Did you know that there are at least one dozen bridges spanning the river? If you start at the Triple Bridge, you can work your way down as far as you wish to go, weaving from one side of the river to the other. Stop to admire the beautiful scenery along the banks and from the bridges!
7. VISIT TIVOLI PARK
Ljubljana’s central park is a popular place for socialising and relaxing. An outdoor gallery at the Jakopič Promenade regularly exhibits interesting large-format photos. Tivoli Park is crisscrossed with walking and recreational paths that continue into the slopes of Rožnik hill and allow an escape to nature from the centre of the city.
8. WALK THROUGH THE TOWN HALL
Ljubljana’s Town Hall is a handsome building, with a Venetian inspired facade and a lovely clock tower. It was originally built Gothic in the late 15th century, but has undergone many changes since. You can walk around in the public spaces just inside, and visit even more areas as part of a tour. There’s a beautiful old well in the center of the courtyard.

Weekend trip to Idrija with our yellow Labrador Bina. A small, remote village, listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List - Idrija, is well known for second largest mercury mine in Europe and Idrija lace. It was one of the hottest weekend this summer and descending into the mine was a nice cool off. Another idea to cool off is Idrijca river. It might me too cold, but just walking barefoot around the water can be effective. Also, go for a shadow stroll following Rake – the mine’s water channel.

Idrija (pronounced [ˈiːdɾija] (listen), in older sources Zgornja Idrija;[2] German: (Ober)idria,[2][3] Italian: Idria) is a town in western Slovenia. It is the seat of the Municipality of Idrija. It is located in the traditional region of the Slovenian Littoral and is in the Gorizia Statistical Region. It is notable for its mercury mine with stores and infrastructure, as well as miners' living quarters, and a miners' theatre. Together with the Spanish mine at Almadén, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2012.[4] In 2011, Idrija was given the Alpine Town of the Year award.
The town of Idrija lies in the Idrija Basin, surrounded by the Idrija Hills. It is traversed by the Idrijca River, which is joined there by Nikova Creek. It includes the hamlets of Brusovše, Cegovnica, Prenjuta, and Žabja Vas close to the town center, as well as the more outlying hamlets of Češnjice, Ljubevč, Kovačev Rovt, Marof, Mokraška Vas, Podroteja, Razpotje, Staje, and Zahoda. The Marof hydroelectric plant is located on the Idrijca River on the northern outskirts of Idrija, between Marof and Mokraška Vas.
Mercury was discovered in Idrija (known as Idria under Austrian rule) in the late 15th century (various sources cite 1490,[5][6][7] 1492,[8][9] and 1497[5][7]). Mining operations were taken over by the government in 1580. The mineral idrialite, discovered here in 1832, is named after the town.
According to legend, a bucket maker working in a local spring spotted a small amount of liquid mercury over 500 years ago. Idrija is one of the few places in the world where mercury occurs in both its elemental liquid state and as cinnabar (mercury sulfide) ore. The subterranean shaft mine entrance known as Anthony's Shaft (Antonijev rov) is used today for tours of the upper levels, complete with life-sized depictions of workers over the ages. The lower levels, which extend to almost 400 meters below the surface and are no longer being actively mined, are currently being cleaned up.
The parish church in the town is dedicated to Saint Joseph the Worker and belongs to the Diocese of Koper. There are three other churches in Idrija, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, Saint Anthony of Padua, and Our Lady of Sorrows.[10]

Sunrise Lake Bled Ojstrica Must See in Slovenia 1h From Ljubljana
[ OJSTRICA, you’re the next on my 📄] 💚Julian alps💚
It's one thing to VISIT Bled💚 as a TOURIST, quite another way is it to explore it like the LOCALS. Ojstrica Peak is an iconic peak in Slovenia, full of beautiful views: and if you will ever visit this gorgeous place, it should definitely be on your 📄. From Ljubljana, you have 1h of 🚗.
• FIRST INFO: From the west shore of the Lake Bled to the top of the peak you have roughly 20-35 min of a hike. And you will gain 190 meters (624 feet) of vertical climb elevation.
• PATHS: The place isn't hard to find... Paths are marked pretty well😊, you do not have traditional red and white dots as you would be able to find up in the mountains, but at the bottom of the path the sign for Ojstrica mountain (if you are physically fit you can also go to “her neighbour” Osojnica, the walk is more demanding and you have extra 10-20 min of walk). In case you will need some extra information, you are always welcome at the Altitude Activities office, where the friendly worker will be super keen to help you and show you the easiest and the most pleasant way how to reach this point. • ADDED VALUE FOR MORNING PERSONS? This place is highly recommended to visit early in the morning, you will be able to see super picturesque sunrises.

- hiking shoes are highly recommended: on the path you have a lot of slippery roots and steep gravel
- make sure that you don’t have any serious medical issue which might deteriorate your current condition
- especially in hot summer days, it is a good idea to have a drink with you
-plan your trip 1 day in advance (check the weather forecast; Sonček app is quite useful, even though it is in Slovenian language, but it is simple to figure out how to check the weather prognosis), if you will pass our agency at Ljubljanska cesta 1, we will provide FREE maps of Lake Bled and surroundings.
