Welcome to our video on the top things to do in Xinjiang, China. Xinjiang is a vast region in northwest China, known for its diverse landscapes, rich Silk Road history, and vibrant ethnic cultures. Here are some of the best places to visit and activities to enjoy in Xinjiang.

Start with a visit to Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang. Explore the Xinjiang Regional Museum, which houses ancient artifacts, including mummies from the Silk Road era, traditional clothing, and cultural relics of the region’s many ethnic groups, including the Uyghurs and Kazakhs.

Next, head to Turpan, an ancient oasis town along the Silk Road. Visit the Jiaohe Ancient City, a well-preserved ruin that was once a major Silk Road trading post. Don’t miss the Karez Irrigation System, an ancient underground water system that has sustained the region’s agriculture for centuries. Nearby, explore the Flaming Mountains, famous for their red glow at sunset.

One of the must-see natural wonders in Xinjiang is Tianchi (Heavenly Lake), located near Urumqi in the Tianshan Mountains. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks and dense forests, the lake offers breathtaking scenery. You can hike around the lake, take a boat ride, or simply relax and enjoy the view.

For history lovers, visit Kashgar, a city steeped in Silk Road history and Islamic culture. Wander through the Old Town, with its traditional mud-brick houses, and visit the Id Kah Mosque, the largest mosque in China. The Kashgar Sunday Market is a bustling hub where you can experience the region’s rich blend of cultures and shop for local handicrafts, spices, and textiles.

Another natural wonder in Xinjiang is the Karakul Lake, located along the Karakoram Highway en route to Pakistan. This high-altitude lake is surrounded by majestic mountains, including Muztagh Ata, known as the Father of Ice Mountains. It’s a perfect spot for hiking, photography, or simply soaking in the serene beauty.

For desert lovers, visit the Taklamakan Desert, one of the largest sand deserts in the world. You can experience camel treks, explore ancient Silk Road ruins, and marvel at the vast, golden dunes.

Finally, explore the Altay Mountains in northern Xinjiang. The region is known for its stunning alpine scenery, dense forests, and crystal-clear lakes. Kanas Lake, in particular, is famous for its turquoise waters and is a great spot for hiking and exploring the surrounding nature.

There are countless mysteries along this historical site. And magic.

In Xinjiang, there are high mountains and sand sea deposits. The Altai Mountains in the north, the Tianshan Mountains in the middle, and the Kunlun Mountains in the south span east and west. BEST XINJIANG TOUR EVER! 新疆#10 天池天山 Tourism in China: Must See Place - The Heavenly Lake

In this episode we visit The Heavenly Lake 天池, situated to the east of Urumqi. You can watch us walk around the lake then take a cable car to climb the mountain. After the cable car drops you at the top it is a further 60 minute walk to the highest peak of the mountain.

The Heavenly Lake - Tianchi (Chinese: 天池; pinyin: Tiānchí) is an alpine lake in Xinjiang, Northwest China, situated at 43°53′9.7″N 88°7′56.6″E. The name (天池) literally means Heavenly Lake and can refer to several lakes in mainland China and Taiwan. This Tianchi lies on the north side of the Bogda Shan (Mountain of God, Bogda is a Mongolian word meaning God) range of the Tian Shan (Mountain of Heaven), about 30 kilometres (19 mi) south of Fukang and 45 kilometres (28 mi) east (straight-line distance) of Ürümqi. It is an alpine drift lake shaped in the Quaternary Glacier period.

Formerly known as Yaochi (Jade Lake), it was named Tianchi in 1783 by Mingliang, the Qing Commander of Urumqi Command.

The lake is 1,907 metres (6,257 ft) above sea level, covering 4.9 square kilometres (1.9 sq mi), 105 metres (344 ft) deep at the deepest point.

In 2006, it was designated for four years of restoration work at a cost of 800 million yuan (US$100 million). The plan calls for the tourism area around the lake to be increased from the present 158 km² to 548 km². The lake is classified as a highest level scenic area by the China National Tourism Administration.
The lake is accessible by Provincial Highway 111 from Fukang.

This is How Muslims Live in China 🇨🇳 (Urumqi, Xinjiang)

Urumqi, Xinjiang, China - Jack and Paige take on the North West region on China and explore deeper into the culture of this autonomous region. We start the day with chatting to some local girls before trying to check out the Mosque which was closed. We are invited into a local Neighbourhood, try Uyghur Sesame Naan and get a glimpse into the life of a everyday people. Outside the neighbourhood we find a fakes market and bargain for some North Face goods, before heading over to the Grand Bazaar. The local Livestreaming culture takes our interest and watch as people dress in traditional clothing on streams with magnificent setups. We enter the bazaar, which has a heavy military presence with guards and police at every station. While at the Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar we come across a local festival, celebrating the coming together of Han and Uyghur communities. Next we head deep into the bazaar and go on a mini shopping spree trying local teas and fruits, Doppa hat and more. After a busy day we finally sit down to eat a spread of Xinjiang food, including local wine, Lamb BBQ skewers, horse meat alongside some menu recommendations.
