Evian-les-Bains, France on Lake Geneva is a wonderful day trip from Lausanne
Evian was and perhaps still is known as a high end resort and spa town, visited for over two centuries by royalty. The renowned springs of Evian brought about the launching of Evian mineral water in 1823 by Genevan entrepreneur M. Fauconnet. Evian was alive with energy when we visited with various art exhibitions and live folk music playing on a small stage.
Évian-les-Bains - Lake Geneva, France
From Lausanne in Switzerland to Évian-les-Bains in France with a ferryboat.
Lausanne and Évian-les-Bains are both situated on the shores of Lake Geneva (French: Lac Léman). The passenger ferryboat line N1 connects the two cities.
The departure of the ships is at Lausanne-Ouchy. Travel time from Lausanne to Évian-les-Bains is 35 minutes.
Tour operator on Lake Geneva is CGN (Compagnie générale de navigation sur le lac Léman).
The name of the ferryboat in this film is Léman. It was built in 1990. The capacity is 780 passengers.
A few days exploring Evian - a famous water city on the lake
Our trip to Evian last fall was quite short. At some point we wanted to escape Paris for a few days, so decided to go to Evian because of the surrounding nature, fresh air and yes, the Evian water running from any faucet :) We ended up working from our room for the majority of time with only a couple of days off, but still managed to visit the town, and took every opportunity (read at morning - lunchtime - evening) to walk around that lake area!
The town is absolutely amazing and very, very lovely! Let's go!

- 0:41 In 1789, some marquess who was suffering from several digestive problems drank water from a spring located at the land belonging to someone named Cachat, hence the name of the source.
- 0:55 The marquess claimed that this water cured his multiple illnesses, and the word started to spread.
- 1:12 Now anyone can come and get some Evian water for free!
- 1:22 Square in front of the source.
- 1:48 Rue Nationale- central shopping street

- 9:22 This building is very interesting in itself, as it was the first spa location in Evian, in 1827
- 9:32 But the main reason we went there is because it had a very interesting exposition about Lumière borthers- the inventors of the cinema
- 10:05 Besides various Lumière-related memorabilia, the exposition showed a collection of first movies.
- 10:35 There were a couple of very interesting examples of first cinema cameras
- 10:39 Lumière brothers were also savvy businessmen, who made a lot of money out of their inventions.
- 10:45 The exhibition contained some of their original patents issued worldwide
- 12:20 Back on the streets of Evian.
- 12:56 Evian has had quite a lot of influence on the world
- 13:05 And we are not talking just about the famous mineral water
- 13:10 Several major conferences and summits have taken place here, including the summit where the independence of Algeria was recognized
- 13:20 More recently, G8 summit took place here in 2003
- 13:30 It is still visited regularly by various royals and other famous people
- 13:45 More posh entrance to the source Cachat (closed during our visit)
- 13:57 Evian got a lot of boost do its development from its Spa town status
- 14:05 It got a port on Lake Geneva, as well as a road connecting it to Milan and Paris at the time of Napoleon Bonaparte
- 14:15 As a result, many hotels were built to serve the rising interest in its water's health benefits
- 14:54 If you have time and like boar rides on the lake, there is an option to do so in Evian!
- 15:00 The ride takes about 1 hour or so, and is not too expensive. The b boat is zero carbon emissions.
- 15:40 The biggest benefit of this ride is that it gives a good opportunity to see Evian from the lake, together with hearing some commentary

On a recent excursion we traveled by boat from Lausanne in Switzerland across Lake Geneva to Evian in France. Known for its famous Mineral Water source, Evian has been a Spa retreat for over a century. We loved exploring the city centre and riding on the funicular to enjoy the sensational view across the lake from just above the town.
