????Parc de Josep Maria Serra Martí????

The Josep Maria Serra Martí Park is located in the Nou Barris District of Barcelona . It was created in 1994 by Cinto Hom and Carles Casamor .

The park is dedicated to Josep Maria Serra Martí (Barcelona, 1927-1991), an industrial engineer and socialist politician , who was Deputy Mayor for Urban Planning and Municipal Services of Barcelona and one of the promoters of the 1992 Olympic Games.

The park is located in the Canyelles neighborhood , touching the Ronda de Dalt . It is a neighborhood area, where one day a week an open-air market is organized. Being on a terrain with a certain unevenness, it is structured in platforms separated by green slopes, with a multipurpose esplanade in the center. The nerve center of the park is the Manuel de Falla Magic Fountain, the work of Pedro Barragán , made up of a pond that houses a metal platform from which the water cascades down, and two large rocks next to some water jets; It also has games of light and sound, hence the name magic fountain. Also on site is a sculpture of a bailaora flamenco entitled Joys, by Ignasi Farreras . The park also has a children's area and ping-pong tables .

The EASIEST Way to Get to BARCELONA AIRPORT

#barcelona #barcelonaairport #aerobus
Hello Hoppers! There are several ways to get to Barcelona Airport, by bus, train, metro, taxi, but the easiest by far is the Aerobus shuttle service. The taxi is also easy but a lot more expensive. The Aerobus is an express service that runs from the city center of Barcelona to Barcelona Airport (El Prat Airport, BCN). You can catch the Aerobus at Plaza de España (Plaça de Espanya) and Plaza de Cataluña (Plaça de Catalunya) and both terminals of the Airport, Terminals 1 and 2. It runs every 5 minutes and takes approximately 20 to 35 minutes, depending on the traffic and time of day. Tickets can be bought from the ticket machines at each stop or online. During the filming of this video (2022), I paid 5.90€ but in February 2023 on their website, they show a NEW PRICE, 6.75€ for a one-way ticket.

????Jardins del Doctor Pla i Armengol????

The Doctor Pla i Armengol gardens are located in the Horta-Guinardó district of Barcelona. They are found on a formerly privately owned farm that housed the Ravetllat-Pla Institute, a tuberculosis research center founded in 1919 by Dr. Ramon Pla i Armengol and the veterinarian Joaquim Ravetllat i Estech. The house and gardens of the estate, in the Noucentista style, were designed in 1930 by the architect Adolf Florensa. The gardens were opened to the public in 2019, with the house converted into the Núria Pla Museum.

Ramon Pla i Armengol (Alentorn, 1880-Mexico City, 1956) was a doctor specializing in bacteriology and infectious diseases. Specialized in the treatment of tuberculosis, he worked at the Hospital de la Santa Cruz y San Pablo in Barcelona and was one of the creators of the Board of Trustees of Catalonia created to fight this disease, as well as the Ravetllat-Pla Institute (with the veterinarian Joaquim Ravetllat i Estech). Also dedicated to politics, in 1917 he joined the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE). In 1932 he joined the Socialist Union of Catalonia (USC), with which he obtained the act of deputy in the general elections of 1936. After the Civil War he went into exile in Mexico, where he founded Ediciones Minerva and the Bolsa del Catalan doctor. He returned to Barcelona in 1948.

The current gardens correspond to the estate of the old Ravetllat-Pla Institute. Founded in 1919, it had its first headquarters in Salt (Gerona province), the birthplace of Dr. Ravetllat, until after his death in 1923 it moved to Barcelona. In Barcelona it had several headquarters, until in 1927 doctor Pla acquired a Guinardó estate known as Los Seminarios or Casa Fitona, and entrusted the architect Adolf Florensa with the construction of the house and the design of the gardens, which ended in 1930 Pla and Ravetllat investigated the etiopathogenesis of tuberculosis and developed a theory not endorsed by official medical institutions, based on the horses they had on the farm. They created two anti-tuberculosis products, serum and the hemoantitoxin Ravetllat-Pla, popularly called horse blood. In the absence of official support, they manufactured and marketed these products privately.

During the Civil War the house served as a refuge for the Basque Government in exile.

From 1940, Núria Pla Monseny (1916-2011), daughter of Dr. Pla and founder of the Ramon Pla i Armengol Foundation, took charge of the institution. She continued with the laboratory's activity until 1980. In 1989, with the opening of the Guinardó round, which she affected part of the farm, she donated it to the Barcelona City Council, whose transfer would become effective after her death. . In 2009 she donated the Institute's archive to the Unit for the History of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. She died in 2011 without issue, shortly before her death, she drew up a new will where she bequeathed her estate to the Pla i Armengol Foundation. After a dispute between the City Council and the Foundation, in 2015 it was agreed to create a museum with the doctor's collection - made up of 800 pieces of furniture, painting, sculpture and goldsmith - managed by the Foundation under the ownership of the consistory, with a rehabilitation of the garden in charge of the City council.

The gardens were inaugurated on December 15, 2019 by the mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, after a rehabilitation that entailed a cost of 8.6 million euros. Colau stressed in his speech that these gardens were a key piece of the green corridor Ciutadella-Collserola, a project that aims to communicate various green spaces in the city to connect sea and mountains and facilitate the migration of flora and fauna between the different natural spaces of the urban environment.

????Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar????

Santa Maria del Mar (Catalan pronunciation: [ˈsantə məˈɾi.ə ðəl ˈmaɾ], Saint Mary of the Sea) is a church in the Ribera district of Barcelona, Spain, built between 1329 and 1383 at the height of Principality of Catalonia's maritime and mercantile preeminence. It is an outstanding example of Catalan Gothic, with a purity and unity of style that is very unusual in large medieval buildings.

The first mention of a church of Santa Maria by the Sea dates from 998. The construction of the present building was promoted by the canon Bernat Llull, who was appointed Archdean of Santa Maria in 1324. One of the distinctive features of Santa Maria del Mar was its backing by the common people, as opposed to the nobility. Construction work started on 25 March 1329, when the foundation stone was laid by king Alfonso IV of Aragon (III of Barcelona), as commemorated by a tablet in Latin and Catalan on the façade that faces the Fossar de les Moreres. The architects in charge were Berenguer de Montagut (designer of the building) and Ramon Despuig, and during the construction all the guilds of the Ribera quarter were involved. The walls, the side chapels and the façades were finished by 1350. In 1379 there was a fire that damaged important parts of the works. Finally, on 3 November 1383 the last stone was laid and on 15 August 1384 the church was consecrated.

The 1428 Catalonia earthquake caused several casualties and destroyed the rose window in the west end. The new rose window, in the Flamboyant style, was finished by 1459[1] and one year later the glass was added. Many of its decorative richness, the images and the Baroque altar were destroyed in a fire set by anti-clerical rioters at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War in 1936. The church survived even though it was on fire for 11 days. The chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, adjacent to the apse, was added in the 19th century.

????Casa Tosquella????

Casa Tosquella is a modernist building resulting from a reform made in 1907 by Eduard Maria Balcells, a monument protected as an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) and as a Cultural Asset of National Interest of Catalonia, located in the Spanish city of Barcelona.

The building, a kind of residential tower in the San Gervasio de Cassolas neighborhood, has three winds, and consists only of a ground floor and a semi-basement visible from the garden. In the composition of the elevations, the curvilinear elements and the broken lines, typical of the modernist aesthetic, are combined with others of an Arabizing character, such as the horseshoe arches, used again since the 19th century by the historicist styles and, later, in some modernist buildings. It should be noted the decoration of railings, windows and wrought iron in general, as well as shelves and stained glass, in the present deteriorated.

Catalonia, Barcelona: a proud history of independence, Spain

travel videos & photos at: with text, maps & links.
Barcelona is a bicultural city, with influences of Spain and Catalonia mixed together freely, adding to the allure of this exotic place. Our guide Sandra Benzal leads us on a tour through the history and modern culture. See more of Sandra here:
Catalan culture rose here in the 9th century and thrived during the next eight centuries in the independent kingdom of Catalonia. Its native language is surprisingly not a pure Spanish, but Catalan, a mixture of French and Spanish which follows its own rules. Barcelona has always had close ties with the rest of Europe -- for example, while most of Spain was occupied by Moslems during the Middle Ages, this region was not, but was allied with the Franks. These historic differences are flourishing today in Barcelona’s exotic mix of cultures and styles, after being repressed by Franco’s dictatorship which outlawed the local language and many customs.
Now there is a resurgance of Catalan pride and independence.

The Unbuilt Church Of Spain| Barcelona’s Tourist Attraction | SARGADA FAMILIA
