Riding ABOVE THE CLOUDS on the TET in Artvin Turkey (plus a SECRET CAMP)
In this episode of We Are Adventure Riders, we continue the ride through the stunning Artvin region of North East Turkey.
We find a secret hidden camp spot on the side of a steep cliff overlooking a gorgeous valley - we just about manage to scramble down for a swim in the warm water. Next we ride up to Artvin where we meet a local biker who leads us to the impressive Ataturk Statue. We then head back to the mountains to spend half a day on a great little TET loop, where we soon climb high enough to look down on the clouds below, and even ride through a ski resort!
After riding back down the other side and stopping for a nice camp, we continue the long but beautiful ride through Savsat to the city of Kars, where we continue a little further to the ancient ruins of Ani, a really interesting place near the Armenian border. We end with a sunset ride across a plateau before find a camp for the night.
Join us next time for our FINAL day in Turkey, where we spend some time with a local Turkish family, swim in a gorgeous lake, and get stuck at the Georgia border!

Bir önceki bölümde Artvin’in Yusufeli ilçesine ulaşmıştım. Sabah kahvaltısında yenen çağ kebabını Yusufeli Devran Döner’de yedikten sonra Yusufeli’nin görülmeye değer en güzel noktalarından bir tanesine gidiyoruz.
Dört kilise manastırı. Gürcülerin Gürcistan’a gönderilmesinden önce Türkiye’deki mallarını korumak amaçlı gömdükleri defineler çok meşhurdur malum. Artvin bölgesinde bunlardan bolca var.
Gittiğimiz manastırda da yine daha önce buralarda define bulmaya gelen insanların izleri vardı. Hala daha define bulmak amaçlı açılan çukurları görebiliyoruz. Kral Artur gibi düşünmeye başlayarak define’nin nerede olabileceğini tahmin etmeye çalışıyoruz ????
Sonrasında Yusufeli‘nin en hüzünlü noktalarından bir tanesi olan Çeltik düzü köyüne varıyoruz. bir sonraki bölümde burayı daha detaylı gezeceğiz.

Othta Eklesia (Gürcüce: ოთხთა ეკლესია; translit.: “oth’ta ek’lesia”), tarihsel Klarceti bölgesinde Gürcü Ortodoks manastırı. 10. yüzyılda kurulmuş olan manastır bugün Türkiye sınırları içinde, Artvin ilinin Yusufeli ilçesine bağlı Tekkale köyünde yer alır. Othta Eklesia Manastırı Tekkale Manastırı, Dört Kilise Manastırı olarak da bilinir. (wikipedia.org)
Gürcüce Othta Eklesia’nın birebir çevirisiyle Dörtkilise Manastırı olarak da bilinen manastır, ana kilise, dört ya da beş küçük kilise, yemekhane, ilahiyat okulu, gömü mekânı (küçük kilisenin alt katında), keşişler manastırından (iki kilise ile başka yapılar) oluşur. Othta Eklesia Manastırı yazılı kaynaklarda büyük lavra (büyük manastır) olarak geçer. Araştırmacıların görüşlerine göre manastır 960’larda kurulmuştur. Manastırın rastlanmadık bu adı, İncil sahibi dört Havari (“othta” / dört) adına inşa edilen dört kiliseyle açıklanabilir. Manastırın bir tür şubesi, keşişler için “Yukarı Manastır” adında bir manastır daha olduğu bilinmektedir. Othta Eklesi’yı koruma işini yakınlardaki Kavkasidzeler Kalesi yerine getiriyordu.
Otkhta (Georgian: ოთხთა, Turkish: Dörtkilise) is a 10th-century Georgian monastery which was built in 961–965 by Davit Kurapalat and renewed in 978–1001. Georgian monastery and cathedral church located in Dörtkilise, the town of Yusufeli, Artvin Province, Turkey. Otkhta is one of the large cathedrals in Tao-Klarjeti, with Oshki, Ishkhani and khakhuli, and one version that is why it is called Otkhta, which means in English from fourth.
Otkhta monastery consists of additional constructions of Seminary, dining-hall and some little chapels; they are almost destroyed even in hard condition is self main Cathedral Otkhta. The cathedral is later period Georgian basilica and dedicated forth Gospeller. Church architectural structure is different from another Georgian basilics like are Sion of Bolnisi and Ruisi.

Parhali Manastırı (Gürcüce: პარხლის მონასტერი; okunuşu: p'arh'lis monast'eri), tarihsel Tao bölgesinde, Türkiye'nin Artvin ilinin Yusufeli ilçesine bağlı Altıparmak köyünde bulunan Gürcü Ortodoks manastırıdır. 9-10. yüzyıllarda inşa edilen manastır yapı topluluğundan ana kilise ile iki şapel günümüze ulaşmıştır. Parhali kelimesi Türkçe'de Barhal biçimini almıştır. (wikipedia.org)
İoane Beria tarafından Şatberdi Manastırı’nda 973’de kopya edilen Parhali İncili’ne göre, Parhali Manastırı Gürcü Kralı III. Davit tarafından 961– 973 yılları arasında inşa edildi. Vaftizci Yahya adına kurulmuş olan manastır bir ana kilise ile iki küçük kiliseden oluşuyordu. Manastırın ana kilisesi olan Parhali Kilisesi, 1677 yılında camiye çevrildi
Parkhali (Georgian: პარხალი), also known in Turkish as Barhal or Altıparmak, is a village that contains a medieval Georgian monastery and cathedral church. It is located near the town of Yusufeli, Artvin Province, Turkey.
Parkhali was built by Davit III Kurapalat (earlier than 973) and decorated with murals. One of the oldest Georgian hagiographial novels, Martyrdom of the Holy Queen Shushanik was written here.
