Cappadocia, Turkey is the historic area of central Anatolia bounded by the towns of Hacıbektaş, Aksaray, Niğde and Kayseri (map). It was known as Cappadocia in ancient times, and is still called Kapadokya informally today.
Cappadocia is Turkey’s most visually striking region, especially the “moonscape” area around the towns of Ürgüp, Göreme, Uçhisar, Avanos and Mustafapaşa (Sinasos), where erosion has formed caves, clefts, pinnacles, “fairy chimneys” and sensuous folds in the soft volcanic rock.
Although the volcanic landscape can appear inhospitable, the mineral-rich soil is excellent for growing vegetables and fruits, making Cappadocia a rich agricultural region. It has always been one of Anatolia‘s prime grape-growing areas, and still boasts many productive vineyards and wineries.
The Bible’s New Testament tells of Cappadocia, but in fact this part of central Anatolia has been important since Hittite times, long before the time of Jesus.
How to Go There
You can travel to Cappadocia easily by bus from anywhere in Turkey. Here’s information on traveling to Cappadocia from Istanbul, İzmir/Ephesus, Pamukkale and Ankara, and here’s a region map.
What to See & Do
Prime activities here are visiting the historic painted cave churches of the many monastic valleys (especially the Göreme Valley and Zelve Valley), flying in a hot-air balloon at dawn above the incredible landscape, hikingthe volcanic valleys (especially the Rose Valley[Güllüdere]), and spending the night in a comfortable cave hotel room with all the modern comforts.

BEST CAVE HOTEL IN CAPPADOCIA for EXPERIENCING Göreme
I SLEPT IN A CAVE! Ok, I stayed at the best cave hotel in Cappadocia Turkey! My hotel was located in the perfect spot for exploring Göreme, a popular Cappadocia town for travelers. This allowed me to do Göreme sightseeing while experiencing my first time staying in a cave hotel with epic views, breakfast buffet and a Turkish bath! It was the best cave hotel experience in Cappadocia.

Yunal: Kelebek Cave Hotel, .. Kelebek means butterfly. It used to be my grandmother's house. Now guests stay here so it is special for me. Kelebek is in Göreme town. Göreme is in Cappadocia. Cappadocia is a region. It covers a few cities inside and a many small villages. We are located in the most beautiful spot of Göreme. Many places are within walking distance. You don't need a car for places like Rose Valley, Red Valley and the Open Air Museum.
Me: I think I'm going to make an effort to be on time for breakfast every day that I'm here.
Farming in Cappadocia
Yunal: Cappadocia we were actually all farmers. We grow here potatoes. We have many vineyards. Apricots, mulberries, walnuts, ...we used to all grow those things and that's how our life was. ...So one of the tours of this hotel, we serve lunch in one of this farm. Organic farm. It's my grandfather's farm.
Me: So it looks like I'm going to have to work out for my breakfast. I guess that's fine. Nothing like a morning hike. And what a beautiful hike it is!

Otel, 19. yüzyılda inşaa edilmiş eski bir Rum Konağı'yla taçlandırılmıştır. Yunak, aynı zamanda içinde yer aldığı mahallenin de adıdır ve Ürgüp, Kapadokya'da bulunmaktadır. Yunak kelimesinin kökeni, eskiden evlerinde su bulunmayan kadınların çamaşırlarını yıkamak ve temizliklerini yapmak için mahalle meydanlarındaki çeşmelerde toplandıkları zamanlara uzanır. Kısacası bu çeşmeler - yani yunaklar -, o dönemde günlük sosyal hayatın önemli bir parçasıydı. Bu ender mağara odalar yerel dokudan uzaklaşmadan, her biri kendine özgü bir tarzla yeniden onarılmış ve dekore edilmistir. Dekorda da çok sık öğeler kullanılmıştır. El işi dantel perdeler, yatak kenarları, eski sandıklar, antika komodinler, el işi örtüler, eski pirinç ferforje karyolalar, çalışma masaları, işlemeli çerçeveler, eski Türk halıları, antika lambalar özenle ve sadelik göz önünde bulundurularak seçilmiştir. Yunak Evleri’nin kendine has dar ve kıvrımlı taş merdivenlerinden oluşan geçişlerle herbiri diğerinden farklı kaya odalara ulaşılır. Her odanın karşıdaki görkemli dağlara bakan, kendisine ait özel terası bulunmaktadır. Yunak Evleri, 39 odasıyla samimi bir ortam sağlayacak kadar küçük ama kendinize özel ortamınızı sunacak kadar da büyüktür. Mahallenin meydanında ,otelin ana lobisi ve resepsiyon yer almaktadır. 19. yüzyıldan kalma Rum Konağı'ndaki ana binada toplantı odaları, geniş bir müzik koleksiyonundan oluşan müzik odası, sinema keyfini tadacağınız DVD odası, uluslararası kanalların da yer aldığı TV odası ve kablosuz internet bağlantısının da bulunduğu bilgisayar odası bulunmaktadır. Yunak Evleri, günümüzün modernliği ve geçmişin gelenekselliği arasında hoş bir denge kurmuştur ve Ürgüp’ün merkezindeki yeriyle Kapadokya’da günlük geziler için ideal konumdadır.
