Cali Travel Guide - Colombia Unforgettable Adventure
Cali is a city in southwestern Colombia, capital of the Valle del Cauca department. It has about 2 million inhabitants and is a significant industrial and commercial center of activity in Colombia. Being at around 1,000 meters above sea level it tends to have a warm midday and afternoon with nice Pacific Ocean breezes while nights are cool. Cali is today's world capital of salsa, claiming that competitive distinction even over Colombia's other vibrant big city party scenes, which keep the music going long into the late hours of the morning.
Cali is located on the Cauca Valley to the west of the Cauca River and to the east of the Western Mountain Range near the hills known as Farallones de Cali. The city rests approximately 1,000 metres (3,281 feet) above sea level. Approximately 100 kilometres (62 miles) west of Cali and over the Western Cordillera, lies the port city of Buenaventura on the Colombian Pacific coast. To the northeast are the manufacturing center of Yumbo and Cali's international airport, the Alfonso Bonilla Aragón (CLO).
Santiago de Cali is located in a valley. The city is completely bordered by mountains to the West; the Farallones de Cali mountains are the closest to the city. The Eastern part of the city is bordered by the Cauca River. To the north and south are extended plains. In the first one you can find the industrial city of Yumbo which is part of Cali's metropolitan area, to the south you can find Jamundí, also part of the metropolitan area. The city is mainly flat, but there are areas mostly to the west that are mountainous, like San Antonio and La loma de la Cruz, which are both tourist sites. There are several rivers that descend from the Western Mountain Range and empty into the Cauca River, passing through the metropolitan area of Cali. In the western part of the city the Aguacatal River flows into the Cali River, which continues on to the Cauca River.
Santiago de Cali offers historical areas with cultural variety and other attractions. In downtown Cali there are many historic churches such as La Merced and La Ermita. Cali contains a well-preserved historical center. The most important zone is La plaza de Cayzedo, considered the center of the city, which is a square surrounded by many historical and modern buildings like El edificio Otero, La Catedral and El Palacio de Justicia. This plaza is close to other tourist places, like The Saint Francis church (in Spanish, Iglesia de San Francisco), the municipal theater and La Merced church. The city is also rich in monuments, parks, squares and museums. The most emblematic sculptures are Cristo Rey, located upon a mountain range; Sebastian de Belalcazar, founder of the city; and Las tres Cruces, a place of pilgrimage during the days of the Holy Week.
The city of Cali offers a variety of ways to move through the city; in March 2009, The Masivo Integrado de Occidente (MIO) began operations. It is planned to be the primary system that connects the city. Taxis and old buses are the secondary way to get around. Taxis are one of the best systems that tourists can use, as they are relatively inexpensive and are more secure. Non-MIO buses round out the system and are used primarily by the working class to get around and are less expensive to use. Buses are secure but not at the same level as taxis. This part of the transport in the city is awaiting a needed reorganization of routes.

Hello again my beautiful travelers. I am excited as always to share with you a new trip full of adventures and tips to make the most of it, especially now that we will be visiting my beautiful home country.

A few minutes from Cali in the municipality of Yumbo, lies a piece of paradise, Dapa, a territory rich in landscape, birds, peace and tranquility. Place chosen by many to rest and enjoy a pleasant cool climate where the city of Cali and Valle del Cauca can be seen in beautiful panoramic views; here you can enjoy its exquisite cuisine, comfortable lodgings and wonderful spaces for the entertainment of the whole family. We usually come here on Sundays for brunch and to enjoy the weather since it is a bit colder than Cali.
Starting the trip, my brother's craving led us to look for a place to taste a delicious Sancocho.Sancocho is a meat and roots-based stew that appears in different forms in several countries of Latin America, especially the countries bordering the Caribbean Sea, like my beautiful Colombia.
We stopped to eat at Racamandapa, a famous restaurant in the region with very good service, generous portions and adequate biosecurity measures. Well flavored food in a beautiful place with a spectacular view; definitely one of the best restaurants in Dapa.
You can find trout at many restaurants in Dapa, but the one with garlic was absolutely amazing; I had the trout, pan sautéed in olive oil and garlic...the flavor was excellent. Please don't forget t o try the Aguila beer, a local beer that will go perfect with any typical food of the region.
The climate in Dapa ranges from tropical to subtropical with various habitat types represented. In the lower reaches, there are patches of dry forest, arid rangeland with scattered trees, riparian woodlands, and gardens.It is ideal for those who want to change the warm climate of Cali for a cooler one in just 15 minutes.
Among the activities that you can do in Dapa are: birdwatching, challenge games, mountain biking, ecological workshops, games for children, hiking and extreme sports.So there are activities for the more adventurous as well as for the most calm traveler.
In conclusion, whether by business, turism or by living other adventures, it's great to be in Dapa, a city that has touristic places and a great historical value, cultural and active life, thanks to its ethnic wealth, delicious and varied gastronomy and an endless number of activities that will make every day something unforgettable.

La cumbre is a Colombian municipality that is located north of the city of Cali. It is one of the 42 municipalities that make up the department of Valle del Cauca. The date of its Foundation is November 13, 1913 and arose from the construction of the Train Station, which gave way to the settlement of the families of the workers of the National Railways.
The Municipality of La Cumbre is characterized as a place where good traditions and a quality of life among its people converge. It is one of the most peaceful places to live in the department of Valle del Cauca, so many people choose to settle in this region or just come for a walk.
I highly recommend go for hiking in La cumbre. The railway is mingling with the natural perfectly. And you can see the beautiful summer houses and the flowers in those gardens of the house. And you can try the little truck in half way of your hiking, which is the other enjoyment.
The greatest attractions of La Cumbre are Climate, Security and Landscape, which are conducive to fleeing the suffocating heat of the Capital of the Department, Cali, and other cities. These characteristics and its privileged location (just one hour from Cali and 50 minutes from the Alfonso Bonilla Aragón Airport) have led mainly to tourism.

Farallones de Cali is a cluster of mountains in the West Andes of Colombia. It is located west of the city of Cali and gives rise to many of the rivers that provide water and electricity to Cali. The PNN Farallones de Cali encompasses 150,000 ha (580 sq mi) in the mountains as well as much of the Pacific slope and is an area of very high biodiversity. The average temperature ranges from 25 °C (77 °F) in the tropical foothills to 5 °C (41 °F) in the páramo.

Museo de Jairo Varela - is located at the second floor of a building at the Plazoleta in Cali. Entrance is free, time is from 2 p.m.to 6 p.m.. We will then continue our tour to a restaurant (Sobre el cielo) in Cali Colombia , where you can expect to find traditional Cali food, beer & signature cocktails offered in a casual locale with a leafy terrace that overlooks the beautiful mountains of Cali.
