Sarıkaya Roman Bath, Yozgat | Turkish Museums
Nestled among the modern buildings the heart of Sarıkaya is the Basilica Therma, or the Sarıkaya Roman Bath. Built in the 2nd century AD, this gorgeous fountain still flows with healing thermal waters. There are snake-like carvings on the structure that represent the god of health Asclepius, showing us that this building was used not only for cleansing, but for healing as well.
Though it was built in the Roman era, excavations of the impressive structure revealed many pieces belonging to the Byzantine, Seljuks, and Ottoman periods. The thermal bath was used continuously until quite recently. Documents revealed that in 1905, the salaries of the teachers in the village were paid with the income of the thermals. Thanks to this incredible world heritage, the village soon became a town that you can visit and enjoy today!

Walk in the narrow streets of Mardin. Visit an active Assyriac monastery.
See the second longest city walls in the world surrounding the old city of Diyarbakir. Enjoy the breathtaking views of Hevsel Gardens by the River Tigris recently listed by UNESCO.
Before we get into the details of each location, we will show you the organization of the trip and the places we visited.
With our first destination defined, Gaziantep, we took the plane in Lisbon with a stop in Istanbul. After a short stop, we resume our journey towards Gaziantep, which would be the first place to visit in southeastern Anatolia.
After two days of visiting the city and tasting the delicious local food, we took a bus to the next city. Sanliurfa. We saw the Abraham pool, bazaars, madrassas, the Gobeklitepe excavation site, and much more. But the most beautiful city was yet to come, Mardin. It was also by bus that we went from Sanliurfa to Mardin. Mardin... well... you'll see in the pictures. We spent 3 days there. Finally, we took a taxi and headed to Diyarbakir, where we saw the second largest wall in the world and the plains of the Tigris River.

Modern Turkey is the heart of one of the earliest human settlements. Starting from the advent of Greeks, it was later colonized by Romans and renamed Constantinople, a name whose fame spread far and wide. It then became the capital as well as the centre of trade of the next conqueror, the Ottoman Empire, in the middle of the 15th century.
The reason for this history lesson is that Turkey is a country that just resonates with history and culture. Despite its modernity, Turkey still maintains semblances of all the empires that once ruled it. The art and architecture and culture are amalgamations of different eras with the strongest influence being the Byzantine (Roman) and Ottoman rule.
You might not be able to witness the eras it once did, but you can certainly take a step back in time by learning about the historical and cultural significance of modern-day Turkey.
Turkey has been the site of a succession of historical empires. Famous places to visit in Turkey are the Topkapi Palace, Sulaymaniyah Mosque one of the grandest Ottoman mosques and the Byzantine Church which is still a place for religious worship.
